I don't like how the screen cuts away before the enemy ship is destroyed, and tbh this looks a lot more visually confusing and less fun than SC1/2's. the satisfying af collisions in SC2 are gone, the audio is nowhere near as good IMO, etc.
You can, but at least in this version of the game, my opinion is that the energy cost of point defense is far too high compared to the damage output to justify using it in that manner.
Looks really boring compared to original star control. No different kind of movement physics between ships, no original ideas avout weapons and so on. All projectiles, all shaped very similarly and almost all functioning the same way.
I disagree a little bit with some of the points there but I can see why you think that way from the looks, some ships and weapons do have very different functions. The Measured ship for example has no inertia and so can stop / change direction instantly, the Trandals has strange speed boost/brake that you need to utilise with it's weapon as it takes on the momentum of the firing ship which is a unique mechanic not present in SC2/UQM. Some ships weapons I do find pretty boring though like the scout shot / Tywom bolt but others like the Skryve "Big Laser" that locks you in place when firing or the Gravity Wave that pushes ships away from you feel pretty good to use. I've had a lot of fun playing the online battles but unfortunately at the moment there seems to be an issue with latency which slightly sours the experience when compared to playing UQM online but it's still in beta so I'm hopeful that gets fixed before release. Wormholes are also incredibly fun, there's nothing like getting someone with shots that come from a completely unexpected (to your target) direction out of nowhere!
*Sees drones
*Gets PTSD Flashbacks from fighting against the Chmmr in Star Control 2, Super Melee
The Orz can defeat Chmmr flawlessly ;-) Druuge are good too if you're a good shot.
I never knew the Greegrox hunted in swarms rather than piloting any real ships...

When does the Amiga port arrive?
Can you not use the point defense lasers against ships? It didn't look like either of you were doing it. You definitely could in SC1 and SC2.

"The Measured ship for example has no inertia and so can stop / change direction instantly." So basically an Arilou Skiff saucer. SO different.
MrBrander I read this comment while the Greegrox were fighting the Measured wtf are you talking about
