I have a newer Galaxy Tab A with an SD slot beside the volume button. This is the only method that works for this model. Spent hours until watching this video, thanks so much!!!! My unit wouldn't furn off so I held the Power buttton and Vol (-) down until screen goes black then use this three button method to work. THANKS SO MUCH!!
Here is how to do it if you forgot your password and cannot turn your tablet off (since you need the PIN/Pattern): 1. Hold POWER + VOL-DOWN (for about 6-7 seconds). 2. Once you feel like it is about 1 second from the "SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A" Screen... Switch to POWER + VOL-UP + HOME I have the model "SM-P580" and it just worked for me.
What can happen! The buttons don't react at all. No panic. You just have to wait until the battery is empty. Then the device will be switched off. Then you can reset it.

Oh my God, Thank you for suggestions, i have seen dozen of Yt videos to resolve my samsung tablet S 10.5 SM-T800 i was getting black screen some times and after multiple restarts, i was getting process system not responding error, i was really frustrated and after seeing multiple TH-cam videos and visited websites and was loosing hope day by day that my tablet problem will be never resolved. But after watching your videos and followed your advice, i was able to factory reset and resolve all the problems. Thank you very much. Even samsung service center didn't help me regarding my problem. Finally resolved with your advice.
Thanks for the directions to get to the reset settings. It was running really "laggy"... I needed to wipe my cache partition, and couldn't figure out how to get to the screen.

I know this might be 9 months late but try this. First power off your device (not causally turning it off). Then hold the power button + the volume up key + home button at the same time. Until you get to that screen. Use your volume up and down to scroll and highlight. Then highlight factory reset. Click your power button to activate it. Then once its done there should be a button called "reboot". Click on that too and it should be back at it's default settings.

If you can't install a higher version then the only option will be to jail break it. The process is quite involved, a quick search on youtube should reveal all

One question, when you factory reset will your google account be deleted? (as in can no longer be used) Or will you be able to log in with your google account that you had before the factory reset

Unfortunatly Google have changed things since I recorded this video. There isnt a lot you can do about it im afraid. Will see if I can find a work around and post another update.

Yes unfortunately if it's been secured with a google account there is little I can do. Only the initial owner can remove that

I get only the bottom portion where it states "fail to open recovery". No top menu.
