  • Hello everyone! :)
In today's video we are going over some of the downsides to having weight loss surgery. I am mainly focusing on the mental struggles that I have encountered so far in my journey, as those are the ones that I have dealt with the most. I did leave some things out, as I'm sure some will notice! However these were the most prevalent struggles for me, and the ones that I am able to speak on the most.
Thank you so much for watching, I really hope you've enjoyed this video!
Subscribe and hit the bell to be notified when my next video goes up! It will be the sister video to this one, going over the AMAZING parts of weight loss surgery!!

It will be interesting to see how your perspective about the challenges changes. The rollercoaster, in many ways, is still to come. The honeymoon is wonderful and a gift. Ive been on a waiting list for surgery and declined it because from reading everything seems like ppl are super excited in the first 1-3 years and then those ppl are gone. Silence. I had RNY 15 years ago. Lost 100 in 4 months and have just now regained back 100 after gaining back slowly starting after year 1. The best part was not being hungry all the time and because before surgery, I never had a full feeling. So I think a sleeve operation would have been better, but it didn't exist at the time. I feel like I have some nutritional deficiencies from the surgery. Lost hair big time, became exhausted, felt ice cold and found that meat and raw vegetables would make me throw up....not always, but enough to make me eat too many carbs, just because they would not make me sick. Starting on intermittent fasting now and it isn't even hard because the small pouch, so I hope to lose the weight again over the next year and hoping to not lose my hair.

@@samantha_rny13 week 1 done of intermittent fasting and 7lbs down. I never realized how much "grazing" I had been doing but I was grabbing some nuts or other healthy snack each time I went through the kitchen. I haven't felt hungry or jittery. It has been eye opening too about my dependence on carbs to block anxiety. Learning how to just accept anxiety as it comes, pray for peace and then move forward.

I have been overweight all my 33 years of life, have never had a regular period and I already started to have other health conditions. I live in Texas and don't have insurance so the surgery is not an option for me, but my baby sister is still covered for my dad insurance and she wants to have it. I am anxious about the procedure but excited that she will have a better chance to not be sick at 30.

I had gastric sleeve and, due to food addiction, I didn’t lose as much weight as expected. I did not realize that the addiction would not be impacted by surgery. (Yes, dumb of me!)
      So I grazed constantly.
Long story short, I found Dr Annette Bozworth (Dr Boz) on TH-cam. Bought her books and doing as she suggests. Don’t give up on your life, obesity only gets worse. Do what she says and DON’T GIVE UP.
I am 75 and weigh 133 today. My highest weight was 289 lbs (probably more, but I have documentation of that weight from my doctor.)
Don’t wait until you are elderly. Dr Bozworth’s food plan as outlined in her books and videos offers real hope. My candy bar addiction is gone. Yes, sometimes I want sweets, but I am no longer ruled by the addiction and obsession. You can save yourself without surgery.
All the best to you, dear.❤

7 weeks post gastric bypass for me. Despite being told that I'd be able to expand my menu, I get sick and throw up after EVERY meal. I throw up WATER if it's more than 1 or 2 ounces. Largest meal in 7 weeks? 1/2 a deviled egg. THATS IT. 40 pound loss over 7 weeks is nice, but I just don't think it's worth the hassle.

My 18 year old is having this surgery the 25th of October and I am not so sure it’s a good idea considering her upper GI shows a delay from stomach to duodenum which indicates that the problem is her gut bacteria. That makes sense since as a child she had daily antibiotics for an autoimmune issue that she developed after H1N1 vaccine. I feel like we might be better off correcting her gut bacteria first. Apparently it screws everything up but mainly it cause vitamin and mineral deficiency triggering hunger. The body is looking for nutrients from food so it always kicking off hunger switch. This poor child doesn’t ever drink soda and doesn’t even have a sweet took. She craves chicken, chicken and chicken. When she eats she doesn’t get full because her body doesn’t tell her she is full. I read she needs FIBER with a probiotic or it will not work and she also needs prescription strength vitamins D, which can only work with magnesium. Won’t she still have these issues with a sleeve? IDK what to do?

My opinion is the WLS should only be offered as a “last ditch effort” to help morbidly obese people to lose weight as a life saving measure. Any kind of WLS surgery is life altering in terms of how you will have to change your eating habits. Overeating can be very uncomfortable or even dangerous to someone with gastric bypass surgery.
That being said, there are absolutely people for which WLS is truly their only alternative. I’ve been overweight most of my adult life. If never been obese enough to consider WLS as a solution. I’d always rather doing it the old fashion way (caloric reduction and increasing my exercise activity). I like to have “cheat days” without having to consider if I’m going to have some kind of side effect.
