I learn something new and useful each time you put out a video. Thank you!
I was looking at a retiring race horse. She is three but seventeen hand. Do you have concerns with a horse so large so young. I worry that the growth is too quick
I've restarted a lot of off track TB's, probably more than 100. A generalization is long track racers restart easier than short track racers, the quality of the training they had at the track makes a big difference, if they left the track sound they usually stay sound.
Out of curiosity, how come you use rope halters? I have always been around leather or the nylon halters. Wondering the pros and cons of having a rope halter on
Rope halters are a much better tool when working with horses. They work better than nylon halters for horses that don't lead well and they are a great way to ride a horse that doesn't know how to follow pressure or has mouth problems. With a rope halter I can control hor much pressure I put on the horse and put soft mild pressure or harder more concentrated pressure if needed. With a nylon halter you really have very little control of the amount or location of pressure.
@@timandersonhorsetraining I see! Thanks for explaining it all to me.
What type of bit do you recommend when starting a two year old?
The first couple rides are with a halter then when they understand the pressure of the halter I transfer them to a snaffle bit. I have a way of doing that transition riding in both the halter and snaffle at the same time.
He seems to be somewhat unwilling to work with you. Maybe he’s scared or has pain. Looking forward to part 2.
Yes that carries through to part 2 which will be out tomorrow. I'm thinking the unwilling is tied to the biting his owner. Since I recorded this video I have pushed him harder and I'm working on that unwillingness.

Is this the kind of behavior that results from poor/incorrect handling? Love your videos, btw; and thank you for your response. ❤️
Yes it can be caused from that, another possibility is he was pushed too hard too quickly and he was mentally overwhelmed.

Thank you! Wish I had your insight and calm, gentle no nonsense approach to horses. Thank you for improving the life of horses everywhere, even here in SD!😁❤️
Always enjoy your videos. Thank u for sharing your knowledge
Might be in pain? Maybe just lacks training. Looking forward to how you work to discourage the biting.
Yes it could be. He hasn't acted like he wanted to bite me today so I haven't decided how I'm goung to address it.
