I’ve been to quite a few places to watch games and this may have been my favorite. The people, the stadium itself, the stadium music/dances/traditions and weather all A+

ISU home football games during the 1950s were played on a field at the west side of the campus. Saturday afternoons In 1955, I had a chemistry lab nearby and would stroll over afterward to see the third quarter. ISU lost most of its games, so I rarely stayed till the end. I believe there was a jock's dorm under the bleachers on one side of the field. The other side had only wooden bleachers. I wasn't aware of any tailgating, but it may have been over by the time I arrived. During winter, men's basketball and wrestling took place in the nearby "armory," and they drew thousands of fans. ISU had powerful wrestling teams at that time.

One thing not mentioned in this video is the CyTown construction that was going on in the tailgate area that will drastically enhance the gameday experience in Ames th-cam.com/video/bJQapNQq5t8/w-d-xo.html
