That guy so reminded me of my husband. We were together almost sixteen years and had one child. He married me because he loved me, and I loved him...but that still didn't change the fact he was gay. Marriage and children don't necessarily mean straight. My sister married a man and had 2 kids; her and Bill loved each other. But after he died, her next marriage was to another woman who also had two kids. They are happy together and my niece and nephews are well adjusted teenagers.
It was recently proven that these "reparative" therapies have no effect on the person. In fact, considering a lot of countries and states have legalised gay marriage, surely the next step is to outlaw these kind of monstrous therapies.
Outlaw something that's Christian? You're a funny guy. Remember, separation of church and state is just a phrase, it means fuck all in America. Christianity rules this country whether we like it or not.
But it isn't Christian, it's just prejudiced thinking. You don't see clinics trying to torment people into not eating pork, despite the Bible saying it's wrong, or clothing shops and factories being shut down for making clothes containing more than one fibre - same chapter in the Bible saying they are wrong. These kind of clinics need removing, because they are a proper affront to human rights, where people are forced into conformity when they do no harm. If they want to run, they should tackle REAL problems - schizophrenia perhaps? Because schizophrenia is a reason why people can suddenly turn and become a danger to society. And depression, which is one of the key reasons for suicide.
Since you are clearly such an expert on the topic would you please be so kind and provide evidence that suggests that one's homosexuality is a direct result of a genetic mutation ? I know of data contradicting this.
I am not declaring myself an expert, nor an authority, but I know better than to decry sexuality as a choice, considering the vicious social pressures that exist, even today. Be that as it may, I never said anything about homosexuality being the direct result of genetic markers. Ongoing research, particularly some during 1997 came to the theory that prenatal conditions affect the foetus before birth. The male, Y chromosome is identified by a maternal immune system as "foreign", triggering a resulting immune response on the child that targets them within the brain, feminising it. If you refer to the work by Blanchard and Klassen, they believed that as a child becomes the latest in a chain of births, they become more prone to this prenatal effect and being born gay. Genetic markers may have something to play in this, where the body may not have immunity specialised to respond to the antigens causing "feminising" or may result in the anomalous production of opposing sex hormones within the brain, specifically in the behaviour centres of the brain. I am willing to admit that I may be incorrect, but my logical deduction has more concrete than "demons" or it being a choice, considering the vicious stigma such things are given by people who hide behind a banner of hate. I would like to see you information opposing the probability of genetic mutation having an effect; if just to determine if the data is correctly acquired. All I know is that it cannot simply come down to a choice, because many people are genuinely only able to feel attracted to the same sex.
Funny, ironic fact of my life: Job 31:1 New International Version 31 “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman...” In junior high, I adhered so closely to this standard that some said I was gay based on that alone. :-)
That logic kills me, man. "There's no gay gene." Yeah, well, there's no "I don't like grapefruit" gene either, but I still can't help that I don't like 'em. Sure, my life might be EASIER if I liked grapefruit--maybe I wouldn't get the sideways looks and the behind-the-hand snickering when I choose to eat a mango instead, but I can't change that. I was born this way, baby. No, of course it's not a biological gene, but it's a preference that I cannot choose. It's just who I am.
"Nobodyth born gay?"- The irony in the pronunciation of that statement was sheer beauty... lol "Jeesth Krayst" (Mr. Slave from South Park). Triple lol! "You're good looking" (gay converter guy starts to giggle and smirk, if only had enough hair to twirl... and on the way out, I swear he was checking out Bill Mahers' ass).
functional with a woman does not equal heterosexual. I have been with plenty of women and you know what? I love Men. I have yet to ever fall in love with a woman and experience the same feelings of affection and chemical attraction that I do with men. And what is more? I have felt this way since memory became recallable for me. I don't care how many kids sister girl pumps out. She's the one frontin'.
The additional problem with that is genes make up only 2 percent of the human genome and are easy to spot, but the on & off switches controlling how those genes operate are encrypted within the remaining 98 percent the (non-gene regions) of the genome and harder to pinpoint.Without these switches (regulatory DNA), genes are inert. Which mean pinpointing the cause of sexual attraction & arousal is increasingly difficult, the reason why there is no found gay or straight genes.Hard to identify.
+audreymaria117 because Bill Maher insinuated that the guy was still gay, cause he looks gay, but he complimented him by saying he is good looking and clean shaven, he also act gay with his facial expression. I think he blushed a bit and laughed at the compliment, but the laugh itself was a 3 second repeat, if you noticed.
Idk if you actually adhere to the Christian faith (I can only assume though by word choice, and the tone you choose when you speak about your beliefs), but either way I applaud you for the first objective stance that each side can agree on. It makes perfect sense to me, and even my hyper religious family (I am an atheist in a family of Catholics). On behalf of myself and my fellow friends in the LGBT Community, thank you.
Man! The needle on my GAYDAR went berserk the second he started to talk. Too bad he won't come out of the closet cause he's really handsome. I'm sure there are plenty if men that would do anything to get his attention (myself included).
@DogsneedpIeasuretoo 'In one study' The low percentages of that study do not agree with a lot of international studies like the German one I mentioned. If it's American: The US is one of the most religious countries in the world with an 'ex-gay reparative therapy industry' interested in lucrative profits. 'genetic factors' Non-identical twins get their genes from the same parents. To exclude genetic factors you have to use adopted childs for a comparison. Same goes for womb factors.
Concerned parents send their gay kids to go talk to that 'ex' gay man behind closed doors, and he always hugs them. Sounds like the perfect job for him.
@cand86 The experiment's design would differ by asking the question: what traumatized people to the point where they were ACCEPTING of gays? In other words, the RIGHT question would be asked, explaining deviations from the norm, NOT questioning the norm.
@cand86 Well let me first ask some probing questions to you: 1) Are you a homosexual? 2) Have you had any teachers who were homosexual and introduced pro-homosexual themes at a young age when you couldn't defend yourself mentally? 3) Have you ever been threatened or punished for expressing natural disgust at homosexual acts (which are not sex since sex implies two)?
The religious people act as if they're perfect because they follow a set of rules that would let them go to heaven (even if they're is no proof of it's existence) and discriminate anyone else who doesn't.
@LionofLincolnton23 The point is one doesn't have the right to force them to do it even if they don't want to do it in the first place. They can't do that FOR ANY REASON.
@frtw4428 No, it doesn't matter whether there's a gay gene or not just as it doesn't matter whether there's a religion gene, we want equality for our orientation just as you want equality for your religion.

That part at the end had me crying, can I get a hug? Religious is an awesome documentary.
Lol
He hugs men to satisfy his desire for male intimacy. It’s tragic that he denies himself pleasure
Love him or hate him, Maher is freaking hilarious.
I felt bad for the guy at 4:25 when he said "nope sorry, can't do that!", followed by body language showing shame + sadness.
Right? That whole thing screamed " I want to be gay"
Exactly its the worst part. He is just preventing himself from acting on his feelings which he clearly still feels.
"I was out bird watching, but I'd rather watch you." "Why don't you come and get some!?" Bill Maher is great.
"These people aren't happy.
They're called gay! They took the word.

It wouldnt be constitutional to make it illegal, its voluntary. Now perhaps sending a minor against their own will...
