This represents a change in how videos will be coming out on this channel - from now on the Exvlog format will be split into three videos, a vlog, a PhD update, and a book club type thing.
Please comment on the various ideas I had during this - chapel music video, second channel, how to get started on youtube, the whole new format, and anything else I missed! The conversation with you guys is what informs what I make, so please get engaged with me and tell me if I'm being an idiot :)

I love watching you ramble on, I usually make playlists of youtube videos I wanna watch and put it on the background while I work/read and yours always makes me look up. Good luck with all the amazing stuff youre doing, it sounds like a busy busy time!
I like this vlog. It seems less scripted than normal and more personal.

Huge thanks for the shout out! :) Very excited for the book reviews! If you want any recommendations, I've been ploughing through quite the reading list recently.
The West Country accent can be very hit and miss abroad. When I was teaching in Oman, a student told me that I didn't have a "real" British accent. If I had the time or the energy, I would have set her a three thousand word essay on the history and artistic merit of The Wurzels.

I really liked this video! As another commenter mentioned, this one felt more relaxed than usual. I think you should do videos that you enjoy, like singing and book reviews because in the end you'll talk about those things with more passion and overall, I personally think those types of videos are more entertaining to watch :)

Hey man, just discovered your channel and am currently binge watching to procrastinate. Just want to say keep up the great work. You're making some fantastic videos, and it's also really cool seeing a youtuber around campus (I'm a physics student at Exeter too). Like you say, people are watching these vids for you, so keep these vlogs coming; they're really enjoyable.

I would be super interested in advice on starting TH-cam/making videos, including equipment, editing software for Windows, and how to not be super self conscious when vlogging. I would really like to vlog in the future - it's something I genuinely want to do - but I'm so self conscious even about Snapchatting in the street, and doubly self conscious about uploading anything in case people think I'm boring and laugh at me. I really admire people who openly and confidently vlog, and I would love an advice video on both the technical and the personal side. Love from Oxford xxx

Loved your ideas, I'm especially looking forward to your book reviews! I've borrowed or bought almost all of your reviewed books so far, and so far I have not once been disappointed! I'd also like to see, if it's OK, a video maybe on your vegetarianism not just in terms of the ethical reasons but also how you practically manage it day to day, in terms of health, social norms/eating out etc.

I just subscribed to your channel .A current masters in education student through the Open uni and living and teaching English in Abu Dhabi where i am based for dissertation purposes. I loved your book review, and ended up picking up much of what was recommended. But it would be lovely if you could go a step further and review specific articles/journals that you enjoyed particularly on specific topics, even if they are a year or two old. Keep up the great work!

Hi Simon, In a few months time I will start my a levels. I really want to be an architect but I've found out that there isn't much jobs in this field. Can you give me some advice

Simon I need your help! I'm about to finish my GCSE years so I have to now pick four A level subjects to do.. I'm definitely going to do Maths, Chemistry and Spanish but both physics and psychology interest me. One one hand phsycology is new so I don't really know what to expect and on the other I'm quite good at phsics (A grades) and most topics I enjoy! (my school requires only 3 A levels but I'm doing 4) Halp pls ;-;
+Sagrin Te Nan Well it depends what you want to do in the future! If you don't intend to follow either of those subjects to uni then choose which one you like the best. Though if you're stuck between the two I'd recommend physics as its a qualification that teaches you lots of skills.

I'm in the school of music at the University of Leeds looking at what constitites best practice in music education for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. I never know whether to call myself an education, psychology, sociology, disability studies or music researcher so remain clumsily straddling the interdisciplinary research horse like the wannabe pro that I am! I've only just discovered your channel but am loving your videos so far.

It would be interesting to see a video with tips on how to balance being a student with TH-cam, whether that being a creator or procrastinator. (says that in the comment section, dodging under a crippling workload)
Okay, Simon, I just sent you a friend request on Goodreads. It's a really easy app to use. You'll get it in no time. I mainly just use it to add books I want to read later, but can't purchase at the time I find them. Most booktubers call this a TBR (To Be Read) list.
