I agree. Unfortunately, Dustin Hoffman won for Kramer vs Kramer. Not sure if Hoffman's performance was better than this.

The thunderous determination in his voice as he yells "my client, the honorable Henry T Fleming should go right to fucking jail! The son of a bitch is guilty!" is just utterly riveting. After everything he dealt with in the movie, he finally gets his moment to rip into the judge.

I'll tell you all why .. Throughout that opening statement, you can see all the stress and pain in his eyes from all that happened throughout the entire movie. His partner went crazy, he lost two clients (one killed himself and the other shot down by swat), him being forced to defend a creep judge who was blackmailing him. Even if you didn't see the whole movie, the whole recap is all over his face, the tears in his eyes tell you the entire story. That to me is superb acting from a legend. I've seen all of Pacino's movies and that is why this is my absolute favorite of all of them. He deserved that Best Actor Oscar nomination and he should've won for this one.

I disagree with 71dude about the movie not being as good as this final scene. IMO the movie was outstanding....it showed the absurdity of a justice system that permits guilty people to go free, innocent people to be locked up, corrupt judges, deal-making, certain lawyers that don't give a shit about doing a good job, and Lawyer Review Boards that think they're doing something to right the ship. All of this while an honest lawyer (Pacino) tries to maintain his integrity and be an honest lawyer.

Pacino is a great actor. But there are others that are high up on that list. The late Alan Rickman, Jack Nicholson, Christopher Walken, Robert DeNiro, Mel Gibson, the late Richard Lynch, Burt Lancaster, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, ect.... . The list is very long with these outstanding talents. 🤗

My first job if you don’t count being a paper boy for five years was at Cinema 21 in San Diego. I had just turned 16 and as an usher I had to open up the doors about 5 minutes before the movie ended. The first movie AMan , A Woman , and a Bank flopped only lasted about two weeks. Then And Justice For All opened and I saw Al Pacinos summation 3 Times every night for about 2 Months. So I used to be able to recite from memory “ your out of order ,they’re out of order , the whole trial,..,

So the only issue I have here is that in real life this would cause an irreversible mistrial. I mean they probably couldn’t even file this again, case over. Raping judge wins, honest lawyer gets (at least) disbarred. I doubt he could get a gig as a paralegal after this.
