      This one was interesting to test thanks to the various resolutions! I would like to see another PS1 Digital patch to fix the few cropping issues. Otherwise another one where either use case will give great results!

    Great video, How are you recording your game plays. Is it straight to the capture card from the RT4 ? My ElGato 4k pro does not look as good as yours when capturing. Wondering what I'm doing wrong. TIA

    As much I want one it’s a lot cheaper to use emulators.

    Retrotink 5x only if you use multiple consols, Retro gem is the best ps1 mod currently

    Great video, even if I did not completely understand the pixel cropping thing. Could you maybe make an in-depth video (series) with some tutorials on that things? I’ve a PS1 digital and looking for getting a RT4x when it comes to Europe, but the RT4x has so many menu options that it looks scary 😅

    Really helpful! I've never had a PS1 and was looking at getting a modded one. I already have an HDRV cable that would just need a cheap adapter to work with PS1, or I could get a console with an HDMI mod. Honestly, I can barely tell a difference between the two. The blue backgrounds in Mega Man X4 you showed are probably the only spot I can see the noise in motion, and even then it's just *barely*, and because I'm looking for it.
    I agree with your conclusion. I think if you didn't have a scaler it's a great option, but paired with a decent scaler most people are fine with either.
    For me, I do have a scaler *and* already have a HDRV Genesis cable, so it's really hard to justify an HDMI mod.

      Yeah, don't waste money on HDMI especially with your setup already having the cables and scaler.

    Digital audio is pretty awesome with the PSX. These days I'd say it is worth getting a Gem over doing a Spdif mod. The digital audiol mod gets pretty pricy. Video wise I was using the Retrotink 5x with RGB output way more than the PS1Digital HDMI output. The artificial scanlines just looked too good and adding back in analog noise is not much of a lose.
    I thought I'd get more use out of the PS1Digital because of the many resolution variances in PSX games, but ultimately it didn't feel like a major annoyance on a Retrotink 5x like it did on the OSSC. With the Retrotink 4k there is still some fine tuning to do, but I feel like it could potentially become an even bigger non issue.
    Great videos. I like that you're talking these things out and giving your opinions. These videos often turn in to showcases where you're supposed to form an accurate impression from just watching game capture footage.
    I hope this will be the year the XStation fixed it's cdda audio problem or we get a new more accurate ODE. I'm ready to put that one to bed after dealing with the Psio for years.

      It all depends on skill level for me. If you can install a gem on your own awesome! Go enjoy digital picture and audio for just a bit more than HD Retrovision. If you need an installer is the added price really worth the outcome for most users? But it's up to everyone to decide for themselves!
      I am ready for the plug and play ODE for PS1/2 🤣

    I would personally rather have each system HDMI modded. If I ever want to take it anywhere, it’s plug and play. Dragging a scaler around tuned to my personal setup is not convenient. Heck, even if I just want to take a system to another room, that’s just not gonna work. I do have one of these scalers on order, but it will sit and stay in one location. - Now.. if you are a PVM or CRT user, then that’s another story all together. But, still the problem of multiple systems going into a switcher then into the scaler then out to the TV 🤯 - That’s the price one pays for complete authenticity

    Has anyone tested the retrotink with BFI on, on any 30 fps to get them to 60 fps with the HDR on to increase the brightness from the BFI loss? Or any 60 fps games to 120 fps with BFI and HDR on? Surprised to only find test videos with pretty basic upscaling only

    Great video, I wonder if there is a console that really worth the HDMI MOD, I guess that the deblur feature of the HDMI N64 might be a game changer, looking forward to see more!

    • @ArchadesGames
      @ArchadesGames  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The RT4K can mimic that function with RGB/Svideo tbh.
      Right now, I think the only ones that make a substantial difference are Xbox, GC (if you don't have official Component Cables), and Wii

      @@ArchadesGames WOW I wasn't aware of it, I thought it was only possible because the MOD was taping on the unprossed signal, I aready have a RGB modified n64 and saving up to a RT4K so will look for that feature, thanks!

    • @ArchadesGames
      @ArchadesGames  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The N64 essentially stretches 320x240 games into 640x240 and the deblur mods just revert it back to the 320 image. The RT4K can use its settings to also cut the horizontal resolution back to 320 for many games. Results will obviously vary by game so the mod might still be better overall for it. I need to do more testing on it.

      You can deblur N64 games with the R4k, R5x and OSSC by loading one of the deblur profiles (on the Rk4 sd card) or adjusting settings.

    Great video again. Thanks for cranking out these tink videos so fast. Really helped me dial in the Saturn. If you don’t mind, what model PS1 are you using? I know there are claims that later revisions, specifically the 700x, have the best video signal, but you can’t install a gem on that. I have a 500x as well and wonder if it’s worth it. Video wise, normal gameplay seems about the same to me based on your video, but the digital audio is intriguing. Keep up the good work!

    It's interesting for sure. I'd love to see S-video results as well.
    I'm thinking for N64 / PS1, S-Video is perfectly fine. Though a good quality scart cable for $30 makes it pretty moot over s-video (if you look at S-video as being a value option).
    The main benefits of S-Video / HDRV cables are the ease of use with readily available CRT's in North America. Being able to use my PS1 with HDRV cables on my 36" JVC D Series is awesome, and the flexibility of just hooking that same setup to a scaler and running it through my Sony OLED is really nice.
    I was really strongly of the position that the HDMI mods were not worth while (in a world with Tink5x / Tink4K)
    for PS1, but the digital audio quality is a good point and one I'd not considered.

      I tried an official sony s-video cable on my ps1 today, and the RGB knocks it for six quality wise. It was a substantial downgrade over RGB. N64 you will barely notice the difference, due to the inherent visuals.

    I have been thinking, could rt4k fix vWii scaling issues everybody complain? Because if it can, that would be a great alternative to HDMI mod a Wii.

      No, the WiiU output needs an internal fix to be developed.

    Is this also true for the PS2 hdmi mod?

    • @ArchadesGames

      Yes. PS2 HDMI mod even loses the advantage of digital audio thanks to the optical port on the PS2.
