I also have a set of exhaust manifolds that have the air-tubes removed and the holes welded. I want to delete the EGR .I am wondering , can i install the pump delete and the emission delete exhaust manifolds and still run the catalytic converters . I plan on gutting the converters at a later date . Any information is greatly appreciated.
Yes the cat will not affect anything as long as it is not clogged. Mine is very clean, looks like new inside. Just leave it until you get around to deleing or gutting. In the works are more videos show delete of manifold tubes and EGR. Thanks for watching !
@@HappyRiverboat-vy7nb I'd need more clues to diagnose that one. A check engine light means the computer is seeing a malfunction. Next step is to check and find out the code number.
The hoses go the the manifold piping. I unscrewed the check valves and plugged the metal pipe with a cap, regular 1/2" NPT pipe cap fit perfect. Later I'll cut the pipes off the manifolds and weld over the holes. Thanks for watching !
Hi Randy, My son and I just installed one of these in his 1989 Corvette, so we have to remove all of the piping that was attached to the old part or can we somehow cap it off with a flange?
Sure I left the hard pipe that's attached to the manifold and on one end of each side there's a check valve clearly seen drivers side in the video. Unscrew the rubber hoses and check valve from the stainless tube at that point, cap the stainless tube with a NPT pipe cap from the hardware store. They come in steel or brass and fit perfectly. Maybe this winter I'll do a video to remove the pipes from the manifold. The pump side has no function beyond that so no worries, even though there's tubes going everywhere they really don't do anything, even the EGR under the manifold is nothing to worry about.

That's a good question to ask. I recommend using the original size pulley, otherwise you are changing the geometry of the belt path. That can lead to interference and poor grip on some of the components especially the alternator in this case. Don't change the size unless you have a complete plan that covers everything.
Good question. On this engine there would not be enough clearance for the belt to pass by the power steering pulley. One might put a smaller pulley on the power steering pump and that would be super neat so I will consider that possibility, thanks for the inspiration! However none of this will apply to your '81 which has a different pulley arrangement. If I recall correctly the smog pump on an original '81 would be front and center above the water pump, with its own v-belt. Just unbolt the thing and you're done, no extra parts needed. I have not but do you have a serpentine belt like the vette or v-belt? If v-belt I believe you can just take off the air pump and get a shorter belt that goes around the remaining components. We did that on an 86 Elco a few years ago. Good luck and thanks for watching!

I removed the air pump and AC compressor plus a lot of valves and hoses, that really freed up a lot of space. Eventually I will make a custom bracket for the tensioner pulley to replace the AC bracket. Thanks for watching !@shawnstafford7809

I've got a 95. Why did you remove the pump, do you get more HP.

Correct, the emissions control system doesn't affect the ECU computer at all as far as I can tell. @shawnstafford7809
