Another one for live action: there’s a Hannah Montana episode where Miley and Lily find out Oliver has diabetes. They do everything they can to keep Oliver away from sugar only for him to explain what it’s really like. There’s a scene in it when he checks his blood and his sugar levels are low. He explains he actually needs sugar

Two more for live action (both about HIV): 1. Dougie Howser, MD - an HIV+ artist has a project at the hospital that gets cancelled after his status is made public 2. Life Goes On: Jessie tells Becca he's HIV+ and when he gets into a fight with her boyfriend Tyler, she blurts out his status in front of everyone
I remember both those shows. You must have grown up in the 80's. Me too, I'm a die hard Doogie Howser M.D. & I do remember Life Goes On. I loved the 80s :) 👋
Got a couple animated ones for ya The Simpsons "Alone Again, Natura-diddly"; this is the episode that marked the death of series regular Maude Flanders, wife to a grieving Ned Flanders The Simpsons (again) "Round Springfield"; in this episode, Lisa grapples with the death of her idol and mentor, Bleeding Gums Murphy Bluey "Copy Cat"; in this episode, Bluey, herself, deals with the death of an injured animal that she and her dad tried to save The Transformers (1984) Dark Awakening; Optimus Prime, who at this point was already killed in the '86 movie, was brought back as a zombie, by the quintesons for the sake of sabotaging the Autobots. Believe me, crap gets dark, here.
I remember when John Ritter’s death was announced. I was so shocked and sad because I love John Ritter. I remember seeing a special with the cast of 8 Simple Rules and feeling the emotions that each of them was expressing about John Ritter and how his presence and character helped them on and off the set. RIP John Ritter.
Another show I know tackled the death of a relative after the actor passed away is The Waltons. I'm not sure if this is any of the earliest shows to have an episode like this or not since it's from the 70s, but I at least think it's at least one of the earlier ones. Grampa Walton was part of the main cast in the show for the first 6 seasons, then after his actor, Will Gear passed away, season 7 started with the episode "The Nest" which takes place after the character's death and it leads to big changes for the family.
for the next animated one, there's a South Korean cartoon called Hero Inside with an episode titled "When You Hear That Funky Groove, I'm Coming For You!" In that episode, a bullied kid uses the hero Disco Duo to take revenge on bullies who pick on him, and the main character has to decide if he should do nothing and let the bully get what he deserves, or to save the bully. In the end, he asks the kid who was taking revenge, "Is this what a hero would do?"
Wow. Dinosaurs must’ve been pretty progressive and mature for it’s time. I never watched it but the amount of times I’ve seen it referenced just in this series alone, it seems like an amazing show. I was born August 13th, 1996, so I’m not sure if this show was around when I was young and I just never found out about it until adulthood.
IIRC, it was on ABC in the mornings, and wasn't hugely promoted or popular. It's a Jim Henson production, so, yeah, they went for real issues. The final episode is infamous for how sober and bleak it is, ending with a powerful environmental-awareness message.
It tackled some serious issues in a few episodes. It was pretty popular when on TGIF mostly because of the baby, and his catch phrase "not the mama". It lasted I believe 4 seasons and remember reading the main reason it ended was because the costumes was beginning to fall apart alot due to deteriorating. It's worth checking out if you want to watch something fun.
Dinosaurs aired between April 26, 1991, and November 10, 1995, so you had just missed the series. I do remember the show, but you can download it off the internet, maybe on a torrent site or something similar.
I binged watched 8 Simple Rules..I think it was 2019-during Covid. I've seen the episode "Goodbye" a few times. Really sad. 😔 I was really little when 3s Company was on. I too, like John Ritter brother have CP as well ♿ R.I.P John R. 💐
I read somewhere that Cameron Candice Bure was actually suffering from an eating disorder at the time of the episode. Luckily, Bob Saget was able to help her get out of it
Do you remember the Degrassi: TNG 2-part episode Our Lips Are Sealed, where Emma was dealing with an eating disorder? In real life, Emma's actress, Miriam McDonald was actually dealing with an eating disorder during the first 3 Seasons of the show, her sister died of it. I found this out recently.
I haven't seen all of this series yet, so forgive me of you've already covered it. The Golden Girls episode 72 Hours Rose finds out she might've gotten an HIV tainted blood transfusion during a surgery and has to get tested. She goes through so many emotions in the next three days, including saying that it shouldn't be happening to her because she's a good person. Blanche gets a very good line about how AIDS isn't a bad persons disease and its not god punishing people for their sins.
For live-action shows: A CBS sitcom show called The Neighborhood has tackled serious moments in their episodes. One episode called "Welcome to the Movement" deals with racism and police violence. Another episode called "Welcome to the Intervention" deals with a veteran coming back a changed man after a war. Then another episode called "Welcome to the Porch Pirate" deals with grief and miscarriage ALF has also tackled serious moments. There's an episode called "Tequila" deals with Kate's old college roommate being a drinker and another one called "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" deals with ALF's friend's mom having a mental illness
I remember when dinosaurs was on tgif, there were mature stuff throughout. one episode my mother burst out laughing then explained the joke. A dinosaur newscaster was called " sonething hand up me". I think it was Harold hand up me. A good laugh 😂
A special episode that touched me was the final episode of M*A*S*H* where one of the main characters suffers from a form of ptsd where a Korean mom had to suffocate her baby to be kept from being cought by the enemy. I may have not explained it to you in the right way but it exists ive seen it. Maybe someone else could help me out with the explanation of the episode.
I remember an episode of Family Matters when a kid thought about bringing a gun to school and it prompted the school to do a gun trade in in exchange for concert tickets, I think.😊
Check out Part 2 for that episode. There was a slight error in details of the episode in the segment which I plan to fix when I do a compilation in the future. I did cover it though 😎
I do remember that Teacher's Bet episode of Boy meets world that talked about racism that could be one to cover on the next one and The Counselor episode of Mr. Belvedere tackles a similar subject of child molestation just like that Webster episode.
Pokemon had two other episodes that dealt with grief: Litten tending to its sickly friend Stoutland with Ash and Pikachu helping out, only for Stoutland to sadly pass away, breaking Litten's heart A young girl, unable to cope with the loss of her Cleffa, wishes to relive the memories they shared, allowing the Unown to make her wish a reality by creating an endless night in the town Ash and friends were visiting at the cost of negative effects happening to the environment and people in general. She eventually undoes the wish after the group reasons with her and cherishes her memories with Cleffa in a positive way
I Had A Suggestion On Animated Side, There's a Episode On The Show Called "Ren & Stimpy", I Know This Show Is full of wacky and insane funny stuff but there's one episode where Ren & Stimpy went to some kid's house and the kid's father is so worried about his son about something, then ren & Stimpy try to cheer him up about something but the father kept staring at Ren & Stimpy and he talks to them and here's what he said "Look, My Son Is A Big Fan Of Your Show, So make my son happy", it was so deep, and i watched it and it was so dark, and there's another episode where they went to a Haunted House And the ghost was about Commit Suicide cause nobody find the ghost scary, i hope the first one was in the video, also the Haunted House episode was saved for another part of the Cartoon The 'Very Special Episode' TV Trope, hope you like this suggestion!
There's an episode of Webster that talks about fire safety! The episode of Big Bang where Howard’s mom dies is always emotional! I remember wondering what would happen when it was announced that the actress who did her voice died ❤😢
As I had said before, Quincy ME, has dealt with issues, like Professionals with drinking problems, look-a-like drugs, the environment, and orphan drugs. As to what orphan drugs, they are drugs that can help certain medical conditions, but these medical conditions that people have, fall under a certain numbered limit and are, not considered, ideal for these people to have, like Tourette syndrome, or it seemed to be, I am not sure about this syndrome.
The Full House one reminds me of a similar episode of Family Matters: Laura was told she wasn't qualified to wear a specific swimsuit and does what DJ did but with a twist just as dangerous as what the latter did. She got her hands on some pills which Steve accidentally takes and is hyper for prety much the rest 9f the episode. It basically tackles body shaming and substance abuse at the same time; I don't know if you were told about it already.
It's in my notes, just haven't got to it yet. I definitely will cover that episode in the future since Family Matters was one of my favorite shows from the 90s. Thanks for suggesting!
@LetsRunItBack Anytime; I only remember that because it tackles 2 serious parts at the same time. Also, thanks for showing one of my suggestions from a prior comment, the thornoids episode of Dinosaurs
There's a lot of episodes in Full House that tackle the subject of the Tanners being without a mom, and the strugges the girls, and Danny, face. One episode deals with Stephanie being upset at the Mother-Daughter sleepover. Joey goes with her at first, but they end up leaving early because Stephanie thinks it's not fair that she doesn't have a mother to go with. In the end, DJ talks to her saying "Hey. It's okay. We're the only ones with a dad, an Uncle Jesse, and a Joey who love us very much." Another episode is when Danny struggles to go to both DJ and Stephanie's important events. At first, when the girls get home, they're mad at each other before realizing Danny never showed up to either of their events, prompting them to worry about their dad and run upstairs, looking for him. Both are incredibly happy that he's okay, he just fell asleep in Michelle's bed. Danny apologizes for missing their events, saying he didn't realize single parenthood would be this hard.
not sure it exactly counts but the episode titled "the boogieman" from Quantum Leap has always been quite memorable to me cause of how dark and strange it got, also Shock Theatre, that one was pretty messed up, another great video :)
Family matters "Car wars" in it Laura goes out to buy a car and is told she's a girl and can't buy one. Her and urkel both go back and she shows the dealer that its not okay to do it
I just watched a whole video about serious topics in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. For example, there’s a lot of episodes that tackle prejudice. There’s one where all the ponies shun Zecora because she’s a zebra, there are some where Chancellor Neighsay dislikes other creatures who aren’t ponies, and there is one that talks about the different kinds of ponies, unicorns, Pegasi, and earth ponies not liking each other in historical times. There’s also a short part in one episode that deals with two ponies bullying another one because she’s disabled, stating that she would never win a competition she’s in because the judge would never pick a Pegasus who couldn’t fly.
Any episode of Fat Albert on Drugs. Maybe specifically the Drug Runner episode. Or the one about the stranger. There’s also one on teen pregnancy and motherhood. And one on Sexual Transmitted Diseases
There’s an episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic where there’s a monster that goes into ponies dreams and makes them nightmares. Turns out, Luna, a character who can go into other peoples dreams created the monster to punish herself for the things she did when she used to be a villain, but the monster escaped and went into other ponies dreams
For both the parenthoog and different strokes episodes you left out ,whitch is the key characters for these episodes didn't do what they for them selves but for the benifet for someone else. For TK,herisks the possibilty of reverting back to his old habits in trying to get back a watch that Nickalas cherished deeply due to the fact it once belonged to his grandfather, and for Don Brown,he did it(although not the smartest move) for his wife May due to the fact that her level of grief was to point of no return in terms of recovery. That fact that he was willing to tie and threaten showed how deserate he was to break her pot of the severe depression she was in.As for the "blood is thicker than mud,the issues that are being addressed isn't entirely accurate. It does deal with sterotypes, bot it's based on the ones where personal biases, predijuces, and beleifs are heavy factors.Plus It's oly Top Dawg the leader of Phi Beta Gama who fells this way and no one else. There are 3 major hints in the episode shows this, first when Orlando calls him out on his treatment of Carton during the pledging process,he responses with"I didn't ask your pinion",second is when he explains Carlton didn't get in by saying"he doesn't represent what I beleive what a Phi Beta Gama should be",and finally when Orlando rthreaten to kick him out of the frat,he throws his hands up as if to say"well damn"
There's an episode of Roseanne where Jackie, Roseanne's sister, has been hiding where her boyfriend has been abusing her. An episode of Boy Meets World has a moment where Eric's Asian girlfriend gets called a slur off screen and Eric has to explain to his little sister about why his girlfriend is sad. Another episode has the teacher, Johnathan, who is like Shawn's surrogate dad gets into a motorcycle accident.
You and the channel " My So Called Gen X Life" uploaded "Very Special Episodes" videos on the same day, and this isn't the first time. DO you collab or something?
No, just a coincidence it seems. I did run into her channel about 2-3 weeks ago however and subscribed. It would be cool to colab with her in the future however since we have similar content and close to the same age since I think in a video she mentioned she was born in 79, while I was in 83.
@@joshhickeysmoviereviews that's actually how I found this channel which i'm glad I did after clicking her social media and finding out she's deep into MAGA hence her weird shout out to Justine Bateman in her latest video.
The Parent 'Hood episode was misidentified as A Different World, but I suppose AI could've made that mistake. Also, The Big Bang Theory episode where Howard's mother had died was written because the actress that played her, Carol Ann Susi, had also died in real life. Since you've mentioned Dinosaurs as a puppet-based show, I'd like to add another one to the list: The Sesame Street episode where Mr. Hooper, or Mr. Looper, as Big Bird had often referred to him, had died, because the actor who played him had died. It was a very touching episode about grief and loss. It can be difficult to explain the death of a loved one to children, and this show handled it beautifully, with honesty and candor. It didn't sugar-coat anything. Thanks for the video.
When editing, what I do is copy the title card from the previous entry on the track for the next and then fill in the info for the next show I talk about. Unfortunately when I copied it over from A Different World, I forgot the change the show name to The Parent Hood. Thank you for watching the video, and for you commenting 😎
I never knew there was a part 2 to that “Parent ‘hood” episode. I don't think it aired in its original run. I remember my friends & I were all wondering who got shot and what happened after.
The actress who played Howard’s mother (Carol Ann Susi) died in real life. So her death was addressed in the same way as John Ritter. By notable coincidence, Kaley Cuico was in both shows and it looked like the death’s impacted her in the same way as each other to a degree
In the Static shock episode "Where rubber meets the road" it is revealed that Rubberband Man has dyslexia and goes over how it doesn't mean he's dumb and ways to power through it
I'm not a fan of the Big Bang Theory, but there is one episode I actually kinda liked, and funny enough it also involved Howard going through emotional stuff regarding a parent. The episode has Sheldon reorganizing Howard and Bernadette's closet, where he ends up reading an unopened letter sent to Howard from his estranged absentee father. Throughout the episode, everyone in the gang eventually learns what was in the letter, except Howard, who struggles with wanting to know but not wanting to know at the same time. The solution is everyone gives their own version of what was in the letter, with only one of them being true. Howard is then asked which he thinks was the real letter, and he says it doesn't matter, that he wants them all to be true. Like the episode with his mother, it's a nice gesture of his friends coming together for him, in this case to help him get closure
"Blood is Thicker than Mud" should REALLY teach everyone not to be woke. Don't be a black supremacist, don't be a separatist, and most of all, don't be racist towards someone different from you. Be yourself an follow your heart! It'll point the way
I’m truly advocating for a 21 Jump Street part, so excuse me when I bring it up 😂 last one I had mentioned was about a teen with AIDS from a blood transfusion but I saw a clip the other day that is another good idea for a special episode (every damn episode is like an after school special, but dammit I love it) Orpheus 3:3 is a great perspective on grief and survivor’s guilt. Hanson and his girlfriend stop at a supermarket and they’re arguing with each other when suddenly a man tries to rob the place. Hanson knows what’s happening but the girlfriend was oblivious and after dropping something, the guy turns and shoots her. She ends up dying and Hanson rewatches a tape of the incident, to the point where he becomes obsessed with the 3.3 seconds it took to go from normal night to his girlfriend dying in front of him and how he didn’t do a thing about it. He tries a number of routine or normal tasks to see what he can do in 3.3 seconds. Finally he starts to see what he’s been doing and decides he needs help. He feels guilty that he couldn’t save her, and even more guilt when you realize he was thinking of breaking up with her before this happened. It’s a heartbreaking episode and relatable. It shows how easy it is to suddenly spiral into a deep depression and have guilt for a death that you feel you could have prevented.
Boy Meets World “Teacher’s Bet” Fed up with Cory’s antics in the classroom, Mr. Feeny makes a bet with him - Cory teaches the class for a week, and if more kids pass the test than usual, he wins a fifth of Feeny’s paycheck. But if more kids fail than usual, then he will lose his brand new bike. The lessons for the week are supposed to be focused on prejudice, but Cory doesn’t think any of that happens anymore and so encourages the class to slack off instead. However, at home, Eric returns from the mall one day with his new Japanese-American girlfriend Linda, who is sobbing because she was called a racial slur. The revelation that prejudice still exists stuns Cory and motivates him to finally teach the lesson. He does so by calling his best friend Shawn an ethnic slur for Italians, an action that forces an out of control class of sixth graders to stop what they’re doing and finally listen to what Cory has to say - that “when somebody calls someone else a bad name, it's not right that just that one person stand up. We *all* have to stand up.” In the end, the same amount of students pass as usual, but Cory’s lesson at least got through to Shawn, who passed the test with a B.
Hopefully the ones I gave you in the last video will make it next time about boy meets world episodes. Another one is a bully for Mark from step by step.
I do have a Boy Meets World episode planned for Part 10. The Step by Step episode is in my notes, but can't guarantee it will also be in Part 10. I will get to it, if it doesn't.
And What About The Golden Girls Spinoff Empty Nest Season 6 Episode 16 "Under The Gun" When Dr. Harry West Is Accidentally Shot By A Young Patient Who Carries A Gun To School
Ive got a few suggestions for how heavy topics can be handled in video games. Persona 5: its s*xual harassment from the teacher Komoshida to the character Ann and how his actions caused her friend to remove herself from life. Throughout the encounters leading up to the reveal of his actions, all the other students think Ann is kind of loose and don't really see the full picture. She cant go to people for help because of the preconceived veiws about her. And when you get to actually confronting the bad teacher in the alternative world you get to see how he veiws Ann when he has a fake version of her in a bikini just hanging all over him and even during the boss fight that fake is sitting in a wine glass waiting to be consumed by him. Baldur's Gate 3 with Astarion. He puts on a facade with you to hide hiw broken he is after years of abuse at the hands of his vampiric sire. Whether you the player stay friends with him or become something more, you see how hard the abuse has affected him. He reveals that he has had to use his body for his master's sick hunting for victims. If you start a romantic relationship, he says he had planned on seducing you so that you wouldn't betray him and is shocked that the feelings he has are real and doesn't really know how to react. When you get to confronting his creator it really shows how having a support system helps him break the cycle of abuse. But on the flip side, depending on choices made by the player, how the cycle of abuse can be continued by the abused and Astarion becomes what he hated.
R.I.P. John Ritter.

I actually came to suggest that episode.
Did you know that episode was dedicated to one of Debbie Allen's Fame dancers, Darryl Tribble.
There's another episode of The Big Bang Theory that's very emotional:

Dude, so glad The Bug Bang Theory! It’s one of my favorite shows.
Love your channel man!! Absolutely love the recaps on the awesome & weird shows we grew up with 💖
Thx for all the hard work & sharing with us! 😊

@ Is it an American TV show?
I watched dinosaurs as a kid and I recall my mom watching it too, the mature themes were there😊
Dinosaurs aired between April 26, 1991, and November 10, 1995, so you had just missed the series. I do remember the show, but you can download it off the internet, maybe on a torrent site or something similar.
That MASH episode is still a kick in the gut, even after seeing it dozens of times.
I binged watched 8 Simple Rules..I think it was 2019-during Covid. I've seen the episode "Goodbye" a few times. Really sad. 😔 I was really little when 3s Company was on. I too, like John Ritter brother have CP as well ♿
R.I.P John R. 💐
Despite its handling of grief, Goodbye is often consider the downfall of 8 Simple Rules as ratings dropped with every episode.
I haven't watched many episodes, but I saw episodes with Ritter, and some after his death. I agree with you from the episodes that I saw.
@@LetsRunItBack Yep, by Season 3 the show was a shell of it's former self
Like glee or scrubs
Your videos are great!!
Thank you, I'm happy you enjoy them!
Side note about the Big Bang episode.
The actress who voiced Howard mom, passed away during filming.
Thanks, I forgot to mention that in the video.
Amazing video of special episodes of live action shows, fantastic job.
Thank you, I'm happy that you enjoyed it!
Another good one for full house is when kimmy gets drunk and DJ tells her how her mum died
Thanks for the suggestion, I put it in my notes for a future video!
Prior to the episode of Different strokes when Danny was kidnapped, there was an episode when Kimberly and Arnold were kidnapped
Thanks, I have the episode in my notes for a future video!
I haven't seen all of this series yet, so forgive me of you've already covered it.
The Golden Girls episode 72 Hours
Rose finds out she might've gotten an HIV tainted blood transfusion during a surgery and has to get tested. She goes through so many emotions in the next three days, including saying that it shouldn't be happening to her because she's a good person. Blanche gets a very good line about how AIDS isn't a bad persons disease and its not god punishing people for their sins.

For live-action shows:
A CBS sitcom show called The Neighborhood has tackled serious moments in their episodes. One episode called "Welcome to the Movement" deals with racism and police violence. Another episode called "Welcome to the Intervention" deals with a veteran coming back a changed man after a war. Then another episode called "Welcome to the Porch Pirate" deals with grief and miscarriage
ALF has also tackled serious moments. There's an episode called "Tequila" deals with Kate's old college roommate being a drinker and another one called "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" deals with ALF's friend's mom having a mental illness
Thanks for the suggestion, I put it in my notes for a future video!

Thanks for the suggestions, I put them in my notes for future videos!
I have one more suggestion (promise it's the last one): the one with the chocolate kid on Hey Arnold, that talks about addiction.
Thanks for suggesting, it's in my notes. You can suggest as many as you want, since the more I have the better to keep going forward with the series.
Pokemon had two other episodes that dealt with grief: Litten tending to its sickly friend Stoutland with Ash and Pikachu helping out, only for Stoutland to sadly pass away, breaking Litten's heart
A young girl, unable to cope with the loss of her Cleffa, wishes to relive the memories they shared, allowing the Unown to make her wish a reality by creating an endless night in the town Ash and friends were visiting at the cost of negative effects happening to the environment and people in general.

Thanks for the suggestions, I put them in my notes for future videos!

Thanks for suggesting, I have it in my notes and it should be in a upcoming episode soon!
@@LetsRunItBack You are very welcome.🥰
It's okay. We're the only ones with a dad, an Uncle Jesse, and a Joey who love us very much."
Another episode is when Danny struggles to go to both DJ and Stephanie's important events.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look them up and put them in my notes for future videos!

Thanks for the suggestions, I put them in my notes for future videos!
I remember my friends & I were all wondering who got shot and what happened after.
it was the season 5 premiere…probably didn’t notice it because it was a summer burnoff season only done because of obligations
@bostonrailfan2427 Maybe. I'm from the Midwest--it could have been an affiliate thing, too.
Awww yiss.
The actress who played Howard’s mother (Carol Ann Susi) died in real life. So her death was addressed in the same way as John Ritter. By notable coincidence, Kaley Cuico was in both shows and it looked like the death’s impacted her in the same way as each other to a degree
In the Static shock episode "Where rubber meets the road" it is revealed that Rubberband Man has dyslexia and goes over how it doesn't mean he's dumb and ways to power through it
Thanks for the suggestion, I have it in my notes for a future entry!
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look it up and put it in my notes for a future video!
"Blood is Thicker than Mud" should REALLY teach everyone not to be woke. Don't be a black supremacist, don't be a separatist, and most of all, don't be racist towards someone different from you. Be yourself an follow your heart! It'll point the way
Minor editing mistake starting at 9:38 should say the parent hood it still says a a different world.
Thanks, unfortunately, I realized it when it was already uploaded and available to everyone.

I’m truly advocating for a 21 Jump Street part, so excuse me when I bring it up 😂 last one I had mentioned was about a teen with AIDS from a blood transfusion but I saw a clip the other day that is another good idea for a special episode (every damn episode is like an after school special, but dammit I love it)
Orpheus 3:3 is a great perspective on grief and survivor’s guilt.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will look that up and put it in my notes to include in a future video of the series!
I have one suggestion for animation. The King of the Hill episode, “Return to La Grunta.”

Boy Meets World “Teacher’s Bet”
Fed up with Cory’s antics in the classroom, Mr.
