  • The exact dates of these recordings in unknown. Based on the names that appear in the titles, it seems likely that the bulk of the first hour was recorded in the 1940s. Brayton Eddy, who appears in the film, died in 1950. The single apparent date in the film is May 1954. I believe these films were probably recorded over fairly long stretch of time and then edited together into a single long film. Research into the history of this film (and RIBA) is still ongoing.
RIBA Film Committee: Brayton Eddy, Rudolph Wallitsch, O. Evert Janson, and Howard A. Pike
Photographed by M. Ellery Judson and Howard A. Pike. Edited and titled by Howard A. Pike
The final 40 minutes are a USDA film from the 1930s, The Realm of the Honeybee
Thanks to Betty and Carlo Mencucci for transferring the original film reels to dvd. Thanks to Chas Mraz and the Vermont Beekeepers Association for helping to identify some of the Vermont footage.
