When I was younger I would watch rugby with my family, Ireland were usually the underdogs at that point but I always was and still have a deep love for Paul O’Connell, he was such an inspiration to the sport and it doesn’t feel the same without him, in my rugby perspective. Once Johnny sexton joining the team and Paul retiring, and now Johnny sexton retiring.
God I feel old. I love this sport

Incredibly overrated. What EXACTLY does he do better than any other good second rower out there. And ffs dont say he was a leader.

@@colloquialsoliloquy6391 ok then. Instead of asking I'll point it out. Only ever got to the quarters of the world cup. Won ONE grand slam. Slow. Poor basic skills. OVERRATED.

So.....Brian O Driscoll is overrated because he only got to the quarters, and only has one grand slam......
He's overrated because he couldn't win lineouts,or clear rucks?
Who da fuck judges locks on their speed?
Hmm,instead of asking,I'll point it out
Clowns who love to be contrarian, because they can't accept the rest of the world being right.

SO many people on these comments that insist on highlighting two things. 1. they know SFA about Rugby and 2. never played any sport never mind Rugby.

If you had to pick one thing it's his lineout in attack and defence. That was his tangible point of difference. The detail he put into that part of his game has him up their as one of the best. Victor Mattfield who was also world class in that area often references the 2009 Ireland vs South Africa game in Croke park as a bit of a job done on him by O'Connell. Add to that the rest of his game was very very good. The intangibles are harder to measure but they are what separate him from a lot of others. Theirs very few people in the game with his desire and will to win

Must have dropped / knocked on more ball than any Irish player in history . Bakkies Botha beat up his players on the 2009 Lions Tour . Should never have been captain .

@@LimerickWarrior1 I'll post my opinion wherever I want to. Excellent argument btw (not really, just small minded abuse). The Irish think that they have/had the greatest players ever to play the game. Come back and argue the toss when you've won more than THREE grand slam in your 100+ years of rugby history.
