I live in Phoenix and my plumeria started out as a small plant in a pot. I have since planted in ground and the plant is now a 10 ft tree loaded with blossoms Love it.

I grow Plumeria in northeast San Diego, both in ground and in pots. Five in pots, two huge trees in the ground for 30+ years; Steve's instructions are exactly what I do for the soil mixes I use in pots.
    The screen is very important!!
Some of the potted ones I have are 3-4 feet tall and are doing great.
Nice tip about the liquid soluble fertilizer he mentions, am not familiar with it, must try it!
I have been using Alaskan fish liquid fertilizer (diluted - from concentrate).
    Dr. Earth products ARE terrific.
I use them all the time - no burning, and the plants LOVE the Bloom mix!
    Great video.

Great video, Steve! Lots of good info. Next month I will order 4 cuttings in what's been termed a "package deal", all different colors. Actually, this vendor offers a choice b/t 2 groups of 4 each with your choice of colors in your order. For me, yellow is a MUST, so my group will have the yellow colored ones. I'm watching every video on growing plumerias I can find so I can "hit the ground running" when they arrive and get them off to the best start possible. Thanks for the video and sharing your tips. Happy gardening! 😊

5:30! Omg I KNEW there was a real tool out there! My mom covered her drainage holes with the garden fabroc you use to block weeds. She repurposed it as the drainage holes were too big as soil would fall through. But the fabric works just like your tool!

Small pebbles or landscape rocks in bottom work well too allows water to drain out bottom. Plumeria loves hot summer hates wet feet..(overwatering)

IMPORTANT QUESTION. My plumerias have been very strange lately. The smaller sprouts have browning and yellowing leaves, and the bigger ones have small grey spots on the leaves. a few leaves have teeth-looking indents in the middle part of the leaf. Info: i use rocks and soil as the potting mix, i live in a dry area, and i don't water them too often. What could be going on?

Steve wish u had been more specific on fertilizing, how often when it transplanted, when in bloom & when goes dormant in late fall winter. I just transplanted a 4 yr old 5 stalk Plumeria first time & removed some old roots old soil from base b4 I put in new fresh catcus soil w.perlite. U just put Plumeria in new pot without removing old soil.
Just curious bc so many Plumeria YT channels recommend removing old soil...

    Good evening,
I have one question. I have one plumeria and this year it grew from 25cm to 90cm height. Nice healthy leaves, and now went into dormat phase (no leaves at all, only few small at the top. Since I don't have side branches, but only one main 90cm tall, shall I cut the top? Will it grow side branches, or shall I leave the top, and plumeria will create side branches on its own. I see on the one that you repotted several cuts.
I live in Montenegro, so the climate is mild to subtropical with rare to non below 0 celsius degrees, and summers ar going upt to 40 degrees Celsius. If I have to cut the top, shall I do it now in dormant phase?
Thank you very much in advance,
    Danilo.

They say no leaves, no water. How big should the leaves be to begin watering?

My idea is to make a small incision above a leaf insert scar to force the growth of a new branch. I don't know if there is any background to this

Our plumaria is now 7 ft tall and has three branches with huge leaves, is there a way to cut it back and make it smaller?

What the heck? As soon as my Plumeria blooms with a single flower, it's gone, like vanished. This morning I had a bud that was JUST flowering and it too is gone. I think something is eating it since it's in a pot on the back patio on concrete. There a 2 cats around but I doubt that's it. Any ideas ??? I"m pretty ticked off about it haha.

It sounds like you have some sort of varmint attacking your plumeria but I can not be certain what might be eating the flowers. Slugs, rats and even deer will munch on the blossoms so do your best to make the area inhospitable. Good luck! Suzanne

@@RogersGardensCDM I'm by Balboa Park in the middle of San Diego. I put a rat trap out last nite about 8pm and got one, at 6am this morning! I'm quite sure it was this dang rat eating them all! You were right.

Could you speak to when and how to take cuttings? I brought a cutting back from Hawaii about 9 years ago and it's now become a pretty leggy five foot tall plant. Here in Issaquah, Washington it's dark and cold much of the year and I'm wondering if I should use grow lights?
Thanks again for our very informative posts.

April /May sound like a good time. I think I'd like to reduce the current plant down and see if I can make it a bit more compact.
      thank you for the tips

Love the video. What causes the buds to drop off before fully opening? I purchased 3 and all three have been dropping their buds. Some do open and last a week or so. Am I watering too much. Can you mist between watering. Any helpful tip would be greatly appreciated. Louise

I love your plumeria. As you mentioned, they need to be full sun. However, the leaves were burned when I put the direct sun. I am living north CA.

They were burnt likely as a direct result of being watered in the sun
