- Multiple deadly tornadoes have struck the U.S. in recent weeks. Scientists say that for the past few decades, the area known as tornado alley appears to be expanding. Dave Malkoff has the story.

TN has always been a tornado-prone state. The mid-south is Dixie Alley...

I was born in '65 and the was a tornado the hit Oaklawn, the suburbs of Chicago in '69 and we have our own tornado alley that come up through Plainfield and Joliet area since as long as I have been around probably longer.
I remember the Plainfield one. It pretty much wiped out the town. I was 7 miles away at that time.

Tornadoes in the south and up to Ohio aren’t new. They happen in the spring and did when I lived in Knoxville TN 50 years ago. The worst outbreak then was in Mississippi up into Ohio, not in the Midwest. The alley moves to the Midwest as summer comes on. This is not new.

When cold air from the rocky monutains meets hot air from the Gulf of Mexico it becomes a breeding ground for tornadoes. The air in the gulf is getting hotter and the air in the Rockies is getting hotter BUT it is still cold air in comparison to the hotter air.

@@kryptosuperdoggaming I live in Colorado, I see some of these storms pass directly over us and they move east towards the Great Plains. In summer, you could be driving North or South on I-25 and when you look towards the East, you can see clouds stretching hundreds of miles up into the sky. It’s very beautiful, but after learning about these Supercells, you know these clouds are absolutely ripping up the ground beneath them. It makes you feel bad because they truly are beautiful, but you also know it’s destroying homes and killing people.
@@hera7884 absolutely, I’ve always been into meteorology and storm chasing since when I was kid watching The Weather Channel and Storm Chasers on Discovery Channel.
My parents lived in fla. Tornados after every hurricane made landfall. Lived in central Indiana for 40+ years. They are not uncommon here either.
The city next to where I live has seen three tornadoes since 1988. Before that we never thought it was possible for a tornado to form here. Thank God they were smaller ones. One lady died in 88 and it unfortunately disabled her son.

Never had an EF3 tornado in New Orleans in my lifetime prior to this decade. We had 2 large tornadoes just in 2022. The severity is definitely new for the area.

Tornado alley is in Texas and Arkansas. Yes. It’s in the map in the video. The point is tornado alley is EXPANDING to other areas where tornadoes are now becoming more frequent

Go look at a tornado incidence map and you'll see that there has never been an "alley". It's more like a blob containing everything from the plains states eastward almost to the Appalachians.

@@bryancash9051 Still had weather patterns that fluctuated. Geography even though it plays a factor is not a primary influencer of weather. Weather systems don’t care about mountains.

I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter how bad the weather (that we’ve been warned for 40 years was coming) becomes, some people will continue to ignore its real cause and instead dream up or buy into some foolishness that makes them feel better (and ‘special’ for ‘knowing the truth’).

Well all I here is since it snowed in the winter, and it is warm in the summer, so there is no issue. Tornado always happen, and so to hurricanes. And since the west coast don’t rake the forest there are forest fires.
Growing up in the deep south i always wondered why we didn't get recognized for our tornado season.
So in the west there's intense heat. In central-eastern region there are tornadoes 🤔. Ok!
