  • Bought this very nice drawknife at the flea market for probably around 1-2 Usd. Handles were rotten to the core and one of them was smaller than the other. The knife itself was covered in deep rust.
    Thanks for watching!

    Just what I was looking for in a draw knife restoration video. Thank you. My only wish is that with so much hand tool use and skill, you didn't just hand carve the handles. I hope to add the smithing to my game soon. Wish I had a Lathe & Anvil, but I don't. The one video missing from all of TH-cam is a draw knife restoration with hand carved handles. Keep up the great work! Would love to see the 2024 remake.

      Off topic ,but man all your videos are epic. Your attention to detail would be the envy of the world in the old days of yore. You're the reason I'm getting into forging. My pieces suck major ass but I'm learning. How long have you been smithing? Also I love that you still do a lot of stuff by hand. Hard to call someone a blacksmith when their forging, hammering and details are ALL done by machine.

    l'huile. Pas de problème, ma plane est trempée. Patrick Dupré

    Hi, what type of stone are you using for sharpening ?

  • @CatFitzGerald2009
    @CatFitzGerald2009 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    he back - the smacks from the strop is not enough! To actually sharpen you must finish the back to the same level as the edge.

    What % vinegar do you use and what's the water/vinegar ratio? I often need to clean rusted items and am always looking for good ways to do so without damaging the item too much.

    • @MakeNCreate
      @MakeNCreate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It's raw linseed oil, I use it for steel too.

    I know this is probably a dumb question, but are the large chunks on your forge charcoal, coal or lava rocks?

  • @andrewmiller8182

    Nice drawknife. However, I would never trust a tool that I had to pull on a handle that has only been glued in place. Better to do the job properly.

  • @placidrenegade
    @placidrenegade 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would that have been made by a blacksmith originally?

    • @MakeNCreate
      @MakeNCreate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Considering that it is probably over 100 years old then yes is most likely would've been hand forged.
