    Hi Nick - a few specific questions - had a look through the manual, but wasn't able to find answers:
    1. Can you disable the flashing "Alesis" lights on the side / back? It's cool that they're flashing in tempo, but I can see situations where you'd want to disable them (actually -- did find this: "Logo Mode" has an "off" setting)
    2. Can you delete all of the preset data? The DTX Multi 12 doesn't allow you to do this, but the SPD-SX does.
    3. Can the hi-hat pedal work against any arbitrary pad (or multiple pads), or is it limited to a specific pad? Can you assign any combination of sounds to the "open" and "closed" positions, or is it just limited to typical hihat cymbal sounds? Is it binary (open/closed) or continuous? The manual mentions that the pedal can be set as variable (continuous), but isn't clear if that's only for MIDI out, or also applies to internal sounds -- e.g., can you do a pedal gliss with a timpani sound?
    4. Are there any limits to the types of pads that can be input? Is it just single-piezo, or can piezo/fsr pads (e.g. Yamaha snare pads, Roland BT-1) or dual-piezo triggers be used as well? From the manual, it _looks_ like it only supports dual-piezo or single-piezo, but would love confirmation.
    5. Can you confirm that the internal click does NOT send MIDI clock?
    6. It looks like footswitches and pads are treated as equals -- i.e., everything that a footswitch can do, a pad can do (and vice-versa) -- including having a footswitch play a sound back. Is this correct?
    7. Is there any kind of beat matching / loop stretching as you change the tempo?
    8. How can you access the two layers (Wave A / Wave B)? Is it only velocity switching, or is it accessible via other methods (mute groups, hihat pedal, etc.). The manual mentions round-robin, but that's the only thing I can see.
    9. Is the looper able to be used in real-time, or is there an airgap between the finish of the loop and the beginning of playback?
    10. Is there any kind of chain mode / set list mode?
    In general, I think the manual needs a fair bit of work -- there's a lot of stuff that isn't covered at all.
    The big differences I see from this to SPD-SX are
    1. More footswitches, and the ability to trigger sounds from footswitches
    2. Looper control via pads / footswitches
    3. More aux buses, with the ability to control them from footswitches / pads
    4. Hi-hat control
    5. Layers
    However, it's missing some of the little stuff that the SPD-SX gets right -- the stuff that _wasn't_ in the original SPD-S, but was added into the SPD-SX. Loop stretching, chain mode, click volume knob(!)
    The DTX Multi 12 is a _much_ more powerful MIDI controller / pad, just supremely limited by the abysmal 64MB storage and Yamaha's total inability to make an easy-to-use interface.
    Can't wait to get one of these and update my multipad review :)

    Hello! Do you know is there an option that you can pull out the specific sound from the loop that you record live? I'll explain - so you're playing, done three layers of a loop and think that one of the sounds in second layer is not what you want. Can you remove it without turning the whole loop down?

Can we graph and eq our loaded samples? Can we add two or more layers of sounds through midi along with preset or usb wave from alesis strike?

    so i had Alesis Strike Multipad for 1 week.
    it’s really great and on Board sounds are amazing. Main problem... it take a long for loading Kit. PITCH tuning is very very bad. You can’t listen to the sound while you pitch changing. You have to save to new file or overwrite it. Then can you listen to the changed sound, it’s not roland or yamaha multi pad. if alesis make update for future .. it will be the best Pad drum for ever...!

    Thanks. The only thing you didn't show was adding live acoustic sounds (ie. your snare drum) to a loop.
    IIUIC, the MultiPad is recording a .wav file when it makes a loop, as opposed to a sequencer retriggering the pads. So, anything picked up by the microphone connected to the Record In inputs would simply be another part of the sound being recorded, correct? The Alesis website states "Loop-based recording of your pad performance or from the external audio input", but the manual doesn't specifically explain anything further.
    Am envisioning laying down a drum beat first pass or two with the pads, then overdubbing a bass line or piano vamp through the Record In inputs, to then solo overtop. Have found a couple of other videos that seem to show something like that, with no real explanation of how.

    I plan to buy this beast. But there is one thing that I can't find online. Can the tempo of a given loop be changed in real time. With a knob or a taptemp? Hi. Am deciding between this and the dtx multipad. Similar functions one thing is the strike is not a sequencer but what I am interested is how comparable the sounds are , which sounds more realistic and does the strike have pressure sensitivity like the dtx? Does it have choking or muting capability like the dtx? Thanks in advance

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, M G. These are indeed similar. They both have great, realistic sounds.
      The Strike does do velocity, but no aftertouch or pressure.

(So i don't have to do this by foot - so i can focus on singing and playing). In other words: can the Alesis automatically send midi notes to the midi output after starting a track?
    I know i could do this though Ableton but I prefer NOT to have a computer on stage...
    Thanks in advance.
    Vinny

    So you need to plug a mic into a mixer first then through that to the input to record live samples with a microphone. How long does it take to save? And could you do this with other sample pads? I’m just looking for a drum pad that can do this well, like record some noises straight to the pads in a live performance and have a play around. ( and be able to loop them and add effects, but I could also use my looper even Witt this)
    Thanks

    I’m considering buying this or the Alesis. Can this unit be used like I drum kit? I’m hoping to get a yes or no answer to this question. I specifically need to know if you can connect a hi hat pedal and play a hi hat sound like a hi hat... open, half open, and closed.
    Thank you.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Vihul. I'm not sure I entirely understand your question, but I'm guessing you may be referring to changing the tempo of a loop. Is that correct?
      If so: you cannot currently alter the tempo of a previously created loop. However, when creating a new loop, you can adjust the tempo by following these steps:
      1) Press the F6-View function button while in Effect View in Perform Mode to access the built-in looper.
      2) When the looper is activated you can set the BPM and Time Signature by pressing the BPM button.
      Hopefully this helps! Feel free to call me at the number below with any further questions.

    Can it match the power of the Roland Octapad and Yamaha Multi 12 when it comes to using it as a mini kit ? Does it perform well specially the hihat variation without affecting other pads?

      Hello, DOCTOR RUDIMENTS! I have used the Alesis Strike Multipad in the same manner you describe, and I've also owned an Octapad for years. The Strike performs just like the Octapad in terms of sensitivity and realism, will work with the same pedals, and has the added benefit of being able to load your own samples. beginner here, im looking to play live, nothing too big just like backyard shows, would i hook this up to an amp of some sort? or a PA system?

    • @TheGrelots
      @TheGrelots 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can go both ways depending on the situation. You can plug it in directly you don't need anything else. The outs are two 1/4 jacks so if your amp only has one input you won't have stereo sound.

    • @stephenlennartz3466
      @stephenlennartz3466 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Countleopone: The drummer in my band has the Yamaha multipad which is killer. He goes directly to the PA system ... and then he has a dedicated monitor WITH a subwoofer. While you can get by without a sub I highly recommend one for this application in order to achieve the full, killer multipad sound. For smaller gigs he uses a Simmons powered drum monitor. As the name suggests this monitor is specifically for electronic drums (including drum pads like this one). This powered monitor sounds great and the speaker configuration includes a woofer that is designated especially for the lower frequencies. I can't recommend putting this through a guitar amp at all. You may have somewhat better luck with a bass amp ... bur ultimately, to my ear going directly through the PA or a dedicated edrum powered speaker is the way to go! Good luck!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, Bruce! You could absolutely play back a sample that long. The only limitation is the size of the memory card that you use. With that said, playing along with samples that are that long can be quite difficult. Especially if someone gets off time. I would suggest breaking it into smaller pieces that you trigger throughout the song.

      Sweetwater how long would it take to load a 3 minute sample? The old sample pad pro would take a long time for loading a one measure sample.

    • @DrumGearGeek
      @DrumGearGeek 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bpivr according to the manual, the size of the sample doesn't change the load time on this -- it's because it's loading directly from the hard drive, not from a separate "current kit" buffer. So it just needs to get the memory pointers set, not actually load the entire file. So the _number_ of samples per kit affects the load, but not the size of the individual samples.

    • @sweetwater

      Hi, Monsta Munch! It is certainly possible. MIDI out on the Strike MultiPad to MIDI in on the Force will allow you to control the drum sounds on the Force with the pads on the Strike, but there will be some setup involved. Thankfully, the Force comes with a rather extensive user manual that covers this type of operation.
