Fun fact: Brazil has the biggest amount of pomeranian-german speakers while its an almost dead language in Germany.
Capivara is the tupi word, capybara is the guarani word, tupi had bigger influence in brazilian culture, but french and dutches had close relations with guaranis and spread its name around the whole world while portuguese was more self centred.

I can attest this, moved from S to NE and absolutely *fell* for Northeastern cuisine. Nowadays it is easier to find ingredients in S to make NE-style foods, but it was not the case back then. OTOH the barbecue culture of the S was just taking off at NE, only brand new apartments were equipped with barbecue kiosks.

So good to see my home city receiving so much love! Thanks for the video.
Regarding people from outside Rio, they just consume whatever the media tells and one of the biggest television channels in the world (Grupo Globo) has its main headquarters on Rio, so many of the stuff here either good or bad is widely streamed all over the country, so this false sense of being "a dangerous place" spread so rapidly over the last few years, even if the statistics actually points out Rio isn't even amongst the ten most dangerous capital cities in country.

Hi there. A word about Rio; I'm Brazilian, from Sao Paulo originally, but living in the UK for 7 years and I travelled to Rio to see my mates. I got the same negative warnings from my folks and friends, 'Rio? Are you insane!?' I just made up my mind and took the same precautions I do while strolling around Soho in London. I had such an amazing time in Rio during 2018 Carnival...millions of people just enjoying themselves, never saw any one giving a bad look. Of course, Rio's got issues like any big, and busy city but that shouldn't stop you from having a good time. Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers!!

I've been planning my trip to Brazil since around the year 2000 and I've been to six other S. American countries but something always gets in the way.
I know I definitely want to see Ouro Preto and Rio. And definitely Sao Paulo. From everything I've read and heard if you love Mexico City you'll love Sao Paulo.
Olinda is also supposed to be a gorgeous colonial city.
And speaking of European influence I have a friend who is from Curitiba which is south of Sao Paulo and he says both the Italian and German influence is incredibly strong there. And in pics it looks beautiful.
You've inspired me. It still won't be this year because I have other things on my plate. But it will be soon!!

As a brazilian from Curitiba myself, it's great to see a foreigner with such a knowledge and curiosity about Brazil. We are the 5th largest country in the world with a diversity of ethnicities and cultures rare to see somewhere else. If you really wanna get to know Brazil, make it a long trip! Rio, São Paulo, the Northeast, the european influenced South, Brasilia, Ouro Preto and the Lençóis Maranhenses are all a must see. The crime rate is decreasing a lot in the past few years and the economy is getting back on track. I'm sure you'll have a pleasant time when you come.

Thanks for the great videos from Brazil. Ouro Preto is magical Foz de Iguaçu a spectacle of nature and Rio our wonderful city. but you still have to go to Jericoacoara Fernando de Noronha, Bonito in the Pantanal, Olinda etc etc and etc. After all I love my country. I am Brazilian with great pride. hugs
