For oak only: the tannin in the oak will react with the steel and the leather. will eat the nail and stain the leather. Need stainless or for oak. Brass screws with cups will work if you pre-drill the holes.
where can I buy or are the plans to make a stitching clam like this? I've looked around and they are either really expensive (300+ USD) or a stitching pony/horse.
Can you make a video on how use it? Such as what angle to set it at. How to find the hole when you're entering the needle from the other side you can't see, etc. I bought a Blanchard, but it keeps sliding down my leg. it's not comfortable, but since it been use for hundreds of years, I'm assuming i am using it incorrectly.
the carpenter was listening to this music and couldn't get the thing out of his shop fast enough! did you pay him to "finish" it? if not you got what you paid for
Hi secret agent, as I am saying in the video and in the video description I have got this made by a carpenter. It is based on a real Blanchard clamp like this one: www.amazon.com/Vergez-Blanchard-European-Stitching-Leather/dp/B0195C5256

Hi Nemovir, Yes you are right that's a great tutorial idea. On my to-do list!
Glue some crepe rubber to the end.

A nice touch.
08:20. Go for the middle of the leather, then throw the rest away!
Link of website where you purchased the clamp please. Thanks

I hope the carpenter is not building anything where someone could get hurt - like a stool or house.
