  • Ok, you need a medium to large car and the budget is 10 grand, there are loads of options out there but these next 5 are simply better than the rest.
Now at this budget the important factors really should be reliability, safety, running and maintenance costs, and practicality
But just because the budget is $10,000, it doesn’t have to be some boring sensible box on wheels either, so we’ve also tried to take into account that these things should actually be fun to drive and dare I say it, even a bit cool.
What did you think? Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe to stay up to date with all of out latest content!

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

The 2014 Corolla that my granddad use to own was a joy to drive and had the TARDIS effect of feeling bigger inside than it was on the outside. Before he passed he said it had the boot space equivalent to his old EB Falcon.
The KIA and Hyundais you mentioned having the issues with their 2 litre engines is a hell of a suprise to say the least as I always thought they were a sturdy engine.
I have no doubt that the Rav4 is going to have a place if not top spot on next weeks list lol.

I’ve owned an Aurion and it was superbly reliable and surprisingly quick. 160,000 ks, didn’t miss a beat. We’ve also had an older 99 model Corolla CSX, and Honda Accord Euro. Currently drive a 21 model Mazda CX-5. See where I’m going with this. Japanese reliability is brilliant.

You're not wrong. We've had BMW's, Mercs, VW's and even a Saab in our family.
We've also owned Mazdas and Hondas. You can't beat how European cars drive, you just can't. But my lord you pay for it, and not just once, you keep paying 'till the day that you finally wake up to yourself and realise that you're a poor commuter, not a billionaire like Buffett, and not a race car driver like Fangio, either. Strictly three brands of Japanese for our family these days, and that's the way it's going to stay.

Absolutely would recommend the Aurion. Have a Black 2010 Sportivo ZR6 and love it. Plenty of power, nice to drive and very comfortable. It might be regarded as a bit of a sleeper but has a really nice stance with its side skirts and dual exhaust.

I had here in Europe: Mazda, Honda and Toyota. Amongst these only Toyota didn't rust. Another two were rusty bucket but without any major issues only regular service. So for my opinion only Toyota because better rust protection. Only thing to watch out is oil consumption on some gasoline engines which are known now.

We had a 2013 Mazda 3 from new. Great car to drive but tight on space. Changed to a 2014 Corolla sedan… crazy good legroom and very economical, smooth and quiet.
Also had 2009 Aurion a couple of years back. The engine and transmission and amazing. 14.6s down the quarter mile, can’t complain.

I'd just like to add, that my family's 2008 camry has over 247000kms on it and doesnt burn oil. Another family friend has a 2005 model, still deosnt burn oil. I wouldn't look past the camry into the aurion, unless you are after the extra power from the v6, for people living within cities the camry is the most ecnomical and best option out there, and also has good throttle response when compared to the rather sluggish v6s. Our camry easily gets 8.5-10L/100km, and is capable of doing Sydney to Melbourne on a single tank. Though some may say that it's "just a camry", it's genuinely grown on me in the past couple years, and even 10 years later I have no plans to sell it anytime soon :).
Thanks redriven for such informative and relatable car content, really proves that you don't need something fast to be a car enthusiast. Keep up the good work guys, and don't mind reaching out if you're interested in filming a camry or a mirage!

The other car that I feel was ignored this week that should have got a spot was the Impreza. Yes it's completely overshadowed by the WRX, but throwing an AWD hatch into the mix rather than ALL FWD would have mixed things up a bit more. Yes Corolla-Civic-3s are good things, but they're honestly carbon copies of each other. Usually you guys like to mix things up a bit more.

It's a VW product. Aside from the implications of putting your support behind one of the biggest corporate criminals in history, recent history to be precise, it's not exactly like VW has a very good reputation for reliability or servicing affordability.
Yes, they are superb to drive, I'll give you that, but even if my moral compass would allow me ignore dieselgate, testing the effects of emissions on live monkeys, the DSG saga etc, I would hate to have to deal with VW Australia as a friend of mine was forced to do, some years back.

Great video as usual, thanks ReDriven. I have a question however. When did car size referencing become so flexible in Australia 🇦🇺? For as long as I can remember, the Corolla, Mazda 323 (now the 3), and the Honda Civic were grouped in the small car category. Mediums were the Camry, Mazda 626 (now the 6), and Accord (going back in time to the Cortina and Torana). I have noticed a similar trend in the SUV market where traditional ‘small’ SUVs are now referenced as ‘medium’. Not a criticism, just something that seems to have crept in of late.

    • @mattdebyl8321
      @mattdebyl8321 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's a fair question, though I think they are doing this as a bit of a catch all. This category of car is becoming less and less important in just about every market. Not really a lot of need in having two seperate videos. Also cars in these two categories have grown substantially in size over the years.

Like the picture displays for the Kia Cerato it’s more the 2.0 GDI engines which were only in pre-facelift 2013-2016 upper spec models and I believe it’s simply a problem of carbon build up, pretty easy fix, lower spec more common models used a 1.8 engine which rarely has issues. Newer and current Ceratos use a 2.0 MPI engine which is rock solid as far as I’m aware.

Love the content as always team! HOWEVER, I gotta say that Ford is completely snubbed again. Look, I'm not a massive Ford fan, but the European Fords, especially in this and last week's category, are dynamically the best on the market. They're plenty reliable (minus a couple hiccups with ecoboost engines and dual clutch trans), but so do all these other brands. Also because they are snubbed so regularly in these kinds of comparisons, they are often way cheaper like-for-like than an equivalent 'popular' brand. The Fiesta for example was the absolute dynamic benchmark and also had the most power compared to last week's options, but completely ignored. The Mazda 2 was claimed as the dynamic top model, but the Fiesta was better (and they were built on the same platform). I just dont get why they're ignored so hard?

Are you used to six cylinder cars or diesels? Certainly, the Civic has got much at the bottom of the rev range, but I didn't think that the Euro was too bad. They're both buttery smooth at low RPM, too.

@@davidbrayshaw3529 they were both automatics so it made the lack of torque really noticeable. But no, I wasn't expecting V6 performance. I've driven other 4 cylinder cars that deliver much better torque at low revs. Its a Honda thing I guess but I don't get it.

That's part of why I sold my 1.8 8th gen Civic, it got great fuel economy and all but it was a ballache to drive because it just had no torque at all low down.
