(If you get the opportunity to pull 200m off your reel and measure the retrieve distance at that stage, that would be awesome!)

Most probably either main gear or yoke plate or both needs to replaced. I would replace both components of the auto engage.
Does this reel make a clicking sound on retrieval - when reeling it back in?
Only when you have the spool lock on but it’s not a clicker.
