These haters are so cringe this guy is the goat and we should be thankful for the time he puts into videos and responding. Keep it up Tanner.
You're the best!! Yeah the haters stink hahah!
Keep it up. Love your energy
:)@@naten2462
Who are the haters? He has some really good advice and tips. He also plays really well. I feel like if he showed up at your club, I don't think those people would want to target him.
Love the iguana photobombing you at 3:52.
haha!! I just noticed that!
So good! Your format of how you break things down is excellent!! Just the part of seeing it from both sides of the net is genius. I’m a huge fan and can’t wait to see you on the pro circuit!
Glad you enjoyed it! So nice of you!!!
Buddy, you're one of the best. Most all the other guys are sponsored by selkirk, but you're just doin your thing, spreading your passion, short n sweet
You know it brother! That is my plan! My goal is to play pro, hoping my videos and teaching style will help me do some collaborations with brands that see my vision!
love the content and way you explain things. Concise and to the point. Keep it up 👍
Thank you Jeremy!
Literally my go to guy! Hoping he takes me to the pro level with his teaching lol, that’s the dream anyways. So I’m rooting for ya and keep on passing down that wisdom!
Yes sir you know it hahah!!
You are so good at breaking shots and strategy points down in a way that us lessor players can understand. Your camera/video angles/shots are really good too. Keep up the fantabulous work. You're my PB lesson HERO!
Glad you enjoyed it! So generous of you!!!
Love your enthusiasm Tanner! Keep the great videos coming!!
Thanks! Will do!
Guest cameo in the background at 3:49 lmao
LMAO just noticed!
Fantastic video!! Congrats 👏 and keep'em coming!!
Thanks so much!!
This was so interesting and helpful. Thank you.
I think it’s great that you point out how it’s not only okay but to our advantage to take a step back from the kitchen line to defend a speed up
Yes thank you!! Common mistake is to NOT do this!
This is great advice on things that aren’t always thought about.
Thanks brother!
Tanner, so greatful that I have found you. I echo all the well deserved accolades given to you here. Your style and down to earth approach is quite welcome. Keep em coming!
Wow, thank you!
Thx as always Tanner. Great stuff. No more ego dinking for me!

nice video tanner! keep them coming
More to come!
Love your teaching Tanner. Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Thanks for another great video!
So helpful to step back any time a dink is high. That extra time makes defense and countering so much easier!
Glad you loved my advice! Thank you, many more where that came.
Nice and very relevant info Tanner. Keep it up brother.
Thanks heath!
Thank you for sharing, I'm going to take these tips to the court today!
Love that, thanks Pam!
Great tips that I haven't seen before. Thank you! There's a lot here and I need to watch it again.
Love that!! Thank you :)
Hey! Great content. Nice and simple videos, short and to the point. Personally I find your videos to have a great balance between being detailed and but also concise and efficient. I watch a lot of TH-cam videos on Pickleball and your channel is among my top go to sources. So keep up the good work!
That is an EXTREMLEY generous comment! I'm so glad you said this, I hope many others feel the same way :)
GREAT JOB TANNER!!

Greatly helps me understand what I see pros doing. Much is very subtle.
Yes, got you covered :)
Really love your videos and they are very helpful.
Thank you very much Huimin!
@@tanner.pickleball looking forward to your new video. Thank you very much for your help to all of us.
Found you through your videos with Will who lives in the same community as I… this is by far the best pickleball channel on TH-cam! Keep up the good work man!!
Welcome aboard! So kind of you!!
Dude, this is exactly the video I’ve been looking for recently. Been stuck for a few weeks in the phantom zone with no answers. Great explanation and logic. Drill time next week!
Glad I could help!
Good content. Especially 1) when to concede cross-court dink battles (and reset to middle). 2) off-the-ball movement to see how to move depending on your partner's position/shot ... Definitely ideas that reduce risk and improve chances to convert a point or reset to neutral if pressured. Thanks for sharing this
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found my tips useful!! Put them into action!!
Thanks, I’ll try to find them and give them a watch
Love it! Thanks Buck!
great lesson.
Glad you enjoyed it
One of the best teaching channels on TH-cam. Good job dawg
Thanks Ajones!
Good concise observations in this video, many of them I haven't heard before from other videos (shrinking the kitchen for one). Thanks.
I also liked the Iguana crossing the court in the background in one of the scenes. That's something we never see in New Hampshire :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hahaha too funny!!
As a lefty myself, very helpful. I did not play tennis (racquetball & Squash back in the day) so never developed the natural 2 hander. The 2 hander is a big plus, especially for resets.
Happy to help!
At 1:25, that guy is thinking "I'm not gonna make any more videos with you if you're gonna take advantage of body bagging me like that".
Hahahahahaahah
Awesome video. Just subscribed to your channel. Is that speed up from below the net technique you showed considered a roll volley or does that have different mechanics?
Hi! That is considered a flick. I posted a video on my channel titled "Learn the Backhand Flick," if you'd like to learn how. The roll volley would be when you are hitting a less aggressive shot.
Brilliant Tanner, can’t wait to see you play against Ben Johns
That’s the plan! Thank you very much hehe
What would stop me from being 5.0 is that fucking DRAGON that appeared in the background at 3:50
lol
My fav coach
:)
Love the video and super useful tips. But how do you switch grips between eastern/continental/backhand when you don’t know what shot is coming? Seems like a recipe for pop ups and net shots. If someone hits a backhand to me and I’m eastern grip, that’s not going to go well
Thank you for the compliment and great question! I play entirely at the net in a sleight eastern grip, however when I see a floating ball, I adjust my grip to the backhand flick side. It may seem like a recipe for disaster at first. However, the "grip change" is more of the bottom 3 three finger adjustment (pinky, ring, and middle).
luv the golden nuggets Tanner thanks
:)
Okay, I subscribed based on this video! Excellent tips for improvement…things I can try right away! Two questions: 1. If I change my grip, for the forehand flip speed up, will I have problems if it comes to my backhand? Or do you use that grip the whole time while at the kitchen? 2. On the movement when not in the play…should I also follow the ball, keeping a constant connection/distance from my partner?
Hi! Thanks Tiberian for the kind comment.. glad you subscribed! :) To answer your question, I am constantly changing / adjusting grips at the kitchen line. So no, after I hit that shot, I adjust back to continental! Your second question, you should NOT keep a constant distance from your partner. I put out a TH-cam short called "shading" I recommend you watch. I also put out a whole video called "tired of ball whizzing through the middle" that will answer your question exactly. :)
Lol - “Harry Potters Wand” 😂
Hahaha
Quick Question: You talked about eastern grip for forehand speedups, I'm assuming it would be eastern for backhand speedups too? Would love to see you do a breakdown of this as I'm trying to learn the back hand flick. Awesome videos brother, appreciate the content!
Lucky for you I have an ENTIRE TH-cam video named “learn the backhand flick” it will answer all your questions!!!
@@tanner.pickleball you are the man!
🐐
Thanks Lance!
Did I hear right? You use eastern grip at the NVZ. Thanks
Yes you did!!
Great video Tanner. However, I do have a question about the grip (at 4min), you mentioned using Eastern grip when the grease of your thumb is to the right of center line of the handle. Wouldn't that be semi-Western grip or Western; whereas, if the grease is to the LEFT of the center line of the handle, then it would be Eastern grip? I could be wrong.
Yes that is correct, my mistake if it was explained poorly!
It was the grease of his thumb because he rubbed some bacon on it. Thanks Tanner!
You mentioned you hold eastern for forehand speed ups but do you hold the same grip for backhand as well?
Yes exactly!!
is there a video of when to use what grip? i’ve only been using a continental
Yep! Look on my channel “all pros do this” is the title of the video
If you have a slight eastern grip at the kitchen, how will you ever flick top spin from the backhand. Wouldn't that limit you to backspin backhand volleys? And isn't it difficult to topspin dink if you're gripping eastern?
I'm also very curious about this. I more often hear recommendations to stay in continental up at the kitchen.
I'm constantly adjusting my grip depending on the shot. Though it is fast, it is natural. I am switching from continental to eastern depending on the shot.
I replied to this thread!
@@tanner.pickleball hi! When you are holding it continental, which bevel does your index knuckle align with on the paddle? 2?
Great classes: short and sweet. very practical!
Glad you like them!
Tanner, do you prefer the Hyperion over the new Engage? And are you only using the engage because your Hyperion delaminated? Would you choose the Hyperion over the engage if the delamination didn't occur? Sorry for the questions, but I'm really curious. I want to know because I just got an engage and I'm thinking about other options. Thanks.
Hi! It’s been a while since I’ve picked up that Hyperion, I think I like the engage more because it hits harder. The high period is definitely easier to control but I think having the extra extra pop will take you farther
@@tanner.pickleball Thanks. I've been wondering why there weren't so many hyperion videos and why pickleball studio and pickleball will considered it just an OK paddle. With so many paddles to choose from it's not practical to keep buying new ones that come out. Your opinions helps a lot Tanner and seeing how good you are also helps make your point very substantial. Thanks so much for your input.
Hey Tanner!! Big fan of your tips! But it.just dawned on me: if you're dinking and you get a ball high enough to take out of the air, why not simply speed it up immediately?!
Sometimes you will be fully outstretched so you cannot generate any more power. Or the ball is not high enough to speed up!
We just gonna ignore the fact a big ass lizard is strolling across the court? lol. Must be somewhere tropical
Haha Florida!
The Erne that you did at 1:47 was the exact opposite of how you described the way to do an Erne 30 seconds later 🤣
You said never to lead with your outside foot, but that is exactly what you did.
Good point. I'm guessing if you have the time, you do it the second way because you're least likely to step on the line.
Ahh my apologies!!
Don’t sweat it, the driving points that you are making are landing.
There are plenty of situational angles that arise in pickles that will require a different approach. Best to get the basics down and then create variation from there.
Unless you're JW Johnson. Most unorthodox position with incredible hand speed and quickness.
Good point!
I don't think your friends understood the "off ball" assignment 😅
Lmao!
Can you also speed up balls below the net when the ball bounces?
Yes I will go over this in a video, the form is different. I’ve made a TH-cam shirt on this.

Where are you located , and how can I get a coaching lesson ? Lol
I am in Delray Beach FL. I offer virtual coaching as well, dm me on Instagram!
I come to visit my aunt a lot and stay in Pompano beach, which is 20 mins from you. Can you send me your booking email. I’ll book a session the next time I’m in town.
1 major thing is stop playing ! and more practice instead
Yes Mex!
Constructive criticism: record on more overcast/cloudy days. You make wonderful pickleball videos, but they are very overexposed. I bet if you fixed this it would increase viewer retention :)
Thanks will do!
3:53 who is your buddy in the back?
Hahahaah
I've heard a pro refer to that grip as "Easternental"
I have too, that is correct!!
Again, I find your teaching to be WRONG. For instance, you say one never jumps to an ernie with the inside foot. Wrong. If one is pulled to the side, say has an outside foot close to or one the line during a dinking battle, one would jump to an ernie with the inside foot. And work on your footwork: it is really bad.
There's always exceptions.. I'm not sure what level you play at, these are for players that are advanced. If you're just starting out, I have beginner videos as well.
Your videos are Awesome
Thanks David!@@DavidChasan
@@tanner.pickleballredequal just needs a little more blue in his/her life to balance things out. A nice shade of purple goes a long way :-)
Keep up the great insight and teaching style, it’s working.
this guy is 4.0 but talking about 5.0 lol
this guy is 5.0. An irrespective of his rating, he is a good teacher. Please be nice
Thank you!
You can check my Dupr.. its a 5.1.
I’ve seen Tanner play in person more than once. I DARE you to bring your 4.0 game to the court against him. It’ll be game over in 5 minutes…bring a cup because he’ll be serving up pickle juice to you.
