Fun fact: the guy on the flute is Jeremy Steig, who played as the Paid Piper in Shrek 4. His father was William Steig, writer of the first Shrek novel, later adapted into an animated movie.
The flute riff came from Jeremy Steig's 1970 song _Howlin' For Judy_ then it was sampled in 1994 by the Beasties then in 2010 Steig played the flute parts in the movie. A 40 year saga.

The dog part always makes me smile. Me and my family had some German Shepards. Good guard dogs. Sure Shot is one of my favorite Beastie Boys song. I like a lot of their songs, pretty much every Beastie Boys song is dope.
"I want to say a little something that's long overdue..." If you watch the old Beastie's videos, especially some of the behind the scenes stuff, you know that MCA grew up a lot. They all did, but his transformation was really something.
Man I gotta say it limits your worldview if you outright “hate” any music genre. It’s perfectly acceptable to like metal and other music genres. For some reason it seems like metal fans are particularly bad about limiting themselves to just one genre. That’s just so limiting when there is SO MUCH INCREDIBLE music out there from ALL Genres. I really like metal. I prefer more of the Hardcore sound-Black Flag, Bad Brains etc. but I can enjoy Slayer and love rap, country, pop. The “Metal” group I LOVE from more modern music is a band called “Torche”-absolutely incredible and unique sound. Try to expand your horizonsz. There are objectively “good” examples of all genres. As for Hip Hop, I’m guessing it’s the energy? Lyricism? Inventiveness? Of the Beastie Boys that causes you to enjoy them? I’d suggest OutKast for sure if you like those three aspects of the Beastie Boys. As for current artists, Run the Jewels is a group of two guys that should blow you away- Killer Mike-one of the most intelligent and imposing lyricists ever and El-P-one of the greatest producers ever who is a great rapper as well.
@@GoZags43 I’m definitely a metalhead but I listen to almost everything. Great music is great music. You are 100% correct. I listen to everything from Pantera to Smokey Robinson. Pretty much anything from the 50’s to the late 2000’s. Disco, Funk, Hip Hop/ Rap, Classic Rock etc. There is no favorite genre for me. I’m a chameleon of musical tastes and I love it. I’d hate to be tied to just one genre. There’s so much great music out there.
I remember bumping this and some other beastie hits when I was 13 playing COD black ops online lol playing it on the mic like an asshole. They were my gateway to hip hop along with Run DMC. I really enjoyed them because they didn’t subscribe to the trash culture that has always kept hip hop from its great potential. As I got older I thought to be cool I had to be on that blingy gang shit and I’ve come full circle realizing these guys are such a powerful influence to have and its incredible how many changes came to their attitudes and sounds while remaining relevant and being the first white rappers to ever really be accepted by the hip hop community. RIP MCA. This music will always be a positive in my childhood memories.

If you read the Beastie Boys Book, this song firmly ensconces itself as one of their top tier signature songs. From the Lee Perry reference to the apology to the female sex, this song is a hodgepodge of their musical prowess, and this is a powerful song. I digress. THIS SONG IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT MOTHER#$%^@ KICKASS. This is one of my favorite BBoys songs (Shadrach is a close second).

I still have my beastie boys jacket with all the badges on and a few VW badges glued to it in the the attic :)
Dont forget the compact cassette tape
@@n.schneiderman7993 Lol I was just going to say that!! Good lookin! 👌
2:07 this man was such a great person and even reflected on their last album by dropping this little line that hits different RIP MCA
The dog part always makes me smile. Me and my family had some German Shepards. Good guard dogs. Sure Shot is one of my favorite Beastie Boys song. I like a lot of their songs, pretty much every Beastie Boys song is dope.
That dog part always makes MY DOG smile!

2:08 One of the greatest rap verses I've ever heard and possibly of all time. R.I.P Adam Yauch aka MCA 🙏❤️
I think he’s brilliant this entire track “ I got more rhymes than I got grey hair and that’s a lot cause I got my share”
*I* wanna offer my love and respect -
as well…
They were so damn talented and unique.
*How many timeless classics can one band produce?....August 2019, still better than almost all of today's music. You guys are.....BEASTS!.*
The Beastie Boys ALWAYS looked like they were having a blast! 🕺🏼💥
"I want to say a little something that's long overdue..." If you watch the old Beastie's videos, especially some of the behind the scenes stuff, you know that MCA grew up a lot. They all did, but his transformation was really something.
He was a poser, never belonged in the group.
@@salazam wtf?
If someone told me they could bring back MCA but I wouldn’t exist, zero second decision right there folks. B-Boys forever RIP MCA.
Nice usage of the weird little flute on this one 👌
I’m here for the weird little flute as well.
Same
I think they stole the idea for the flute from kid cudi
@@williampatrick9864 Except Kid Kudi was 10 years old when Sure Shot came out in 1994.

I'm a metal music fan and hate rap,but these guys I can listen to their songs over and over. RIP Adam Yauch!🙏
Metal music fan?? Metal head.. say metal head dude.

So you don't hate rap

This song is still pure fire after all these years. And honestly, it just seems like it ages like a fine wine.
True Icons!! The only band l know where every gene of musicians loved their music!!
Also, that look at 3:00 cracks me up every time.
"Guys? You gonna let me down?" lol
I sure miss them. I consider myself lucky to have seen them live at Lollapalooza in 94, than years later at the Great Western Forum.
same here lolla 94 carson ca

I don't care what color their skin is, they brought their message to their people back then. Well done.
First white boys to revolutionize rap hip hop
You could take 'white' out of your sentence and it would still be true.

ILL COMMUNICATION IS ONE OF THE FINEST ALBUMS EVER RECORDED AND CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER WHEN I BOUGHT THE CD THE DAY IT WAS RELEASED! THE TALENT THESE GUYS HAVE AND UNFORTUNETLY HAD R.I.P. ADROCK IS TRULEY SHOWCASED IN THIS MASTERPIECE
I didn't know they had CDs for Liscensed to I'll so early on. I had the Cassette tape in '86 but I was I years old. My older sister(R.I.P.) introduced me to it. She was 12 years older than me.
Not many had the longevity and popularity of the Beastie Boys. Almost 4 decades. I think what helped make them last is their ability to add comedy and humor (like every B BOYS video). So much fun. Always

I thought the Beastie Boys were pretty good back in the 1980's. Then they came back on the scene in the 90's and were like a thousand times better than ever before. I wonder what happened.
Anyone else a 13 yr old listening to this in 2016?? Older songs are much better than the crap nowadays.
holy shit!hello friend

It's 2017 (or whatever year it is now). The Beastie Boys deserve an UNedited upload of their works.
How can you not be a Beastie fan.
Dug this out , and you just forget how fucking good this tune is. The drum break , the flute break and their flow is just hip hop perfection. Still kicking it after 30 years. BOSS!!!
2022 and still one of the best bangers of all time !!!!
Rest in Peace Berry. He`s exploring the Intergalactic Planetary system.
Hip hop masterpiece, plain and simple.
I remember when I was younger the whistling tune in this song scared the shit out of me. And to this day it somehow still does.
Beastie Boys pioneered modern hiphop
If you read the Beastie Boys Book, this song firmly ensconces itself as one of their top tier signature songs. From the Lee Perry reference to the apology to the female sex, this song is a hodgepodge of their musical prowess, and this is a powerful song.
I digress.
THIS SONG IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT MOTHER#$%^@ KICKASS. This is one of my favorite BBoys songs (Shadrach is a close second).
Agree with all of what you said! This song is one of their best, for many reasons!
Apology to the female sex…
And then you call them “motherfing badass”
