Aww guys if you are in a difficult time in your lives, just remember that opening up to people is one of the best cures. When my mum died, the time when I really recovered was when I started talking to people about how I felt.
Yes that is very true its a way to cope with the pain.... A way to disguise the tears.. Wether its current or in the past. Some people choose to show their sadness but then who wants to be around someone who is always crying or complaining of their sadness, or angry and thats why we'd rather make others laugh to pretend. Smile now, cry later. Although it does stick with you even when u are ok u just kind of get used to it.

Living your authentic life is insanely hard, especially if you're told constantly that what you feel, need, or think is wrong or abnormal. It takes a really strong person to overcome the belief system that tells them their authentic self is wrong or bad.

I remember hearing about the episode before it aired on how Ellen was going to come out on the show. I was a teenage lesbian in the bible belt of Mississippi in the 90's, and I was so excited to see someone tell the world that she is gay. I just needed to see that I wasn't the only one. I remember the coming out scene, and how liberated I felt just watching it. Even to this day, I can return to that feeling I had and feel the weight lift. Thank you, Ellen, for what you did for us. Thank you for breaking that barrier so we could too

Sometimes you stop swimming and ride the waves. If you are too tired you can just lay on your back and float. See the thing is I come from an eastern perspective so going with the ebb and flow isn't actually bad. I'm not talking apathy or ignoring responsibilities. I'm talking about accepting it all the good and bad. If you stop fighting, crying, or being angry maybe you'll find peace in what it is.

I have a gay daughter. I have a transgender grandson. Both are so brave. Both are true to themselves. It was a hard path for both of them. I am a proud Mom and a proud Grandma

It's because you are very young. People who were your age that watched her show back then knew about all that. The newer generations don't know I guess because she really doesn't want to keep talking about it all the time, she's moving further and further away from that every single day, but will always share her story when it is needed.

Thanks Ellen, for making me cry all over my pizza!!! I’m a 50-year-old gay man, and can relate 1000% to every single thing you just said, but unfortunately I had another hurdle thrown at me at the same time. Shortly after my 20th birthday, around the time I met my husband, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, that, unbeknownst to me, was a belt to turn my entire world upside down and take me on the craziest ride of my life. A year later in my large intestine ruptured, I died for two minutes, can’t get much worse than that right: wrong! That was the beginning of a 30 year long journey of 37 brutal operations removing 95% of my entire gastrointestinal tract, and leaving me unable to work and living on long-term disability, which you would think is a total disaster right? Wrong again! Do you see, in my late teens I had applied to all the universities here in Toronto to study music, which is still a passion of mine, and I decided to take a year off to work and save up enough money because my parents promised they would pay for half and I would pay for half of University, and in that year I had off is when I got sick. Had I been in school I would’ve had to drop out, but instead I was thrown into a world wind of doctors and the surgeries and months and months of hospitalization. Basically I’ve spent my entire adult life sick, but in between hospitalizations I did manage to get a degree, but not in music. I ended up spending so much time in the hospital I realize something that I would’ve never thought of in 1 million years had a never gotten sick, that I truly loved the medical environment, and I’ve always loved helping people in anyway that I can, so when I was recovered from that first major surgery I became a laboratory technician and then intern, and x-ray technologist, and I worked in the field for over 20 years and absolutely loved every second of it, something I never would’ve experienced head had I not gotten sick. I had many close calls with death, and in total developed 11 chronic illnesses, including intestinal cancer which I had three times! Every time somebody here is my story the first thing they do is It’s a pity me, and tell me how sorry they are for everything I’ve had to go through, but there’s no need to say that. The one thing all of these experiences taught me, is that life has the weirdest way of bringing you back up after slapping you down as hard as it can, and just when you think you’re at the bottom of the barrel and you’ll never recovered, something always always comes along to pick you back up again, turning you towards things she would’ve never have thought of or seen otherwise. I now live with less than 5% of my G.I. tract, and yes I have quite a bit of pain, but to look at me you could never tell there was anything wrong because it’s all internal, which makes using my handicap pass quite difficult sometimes because nobody believes me. But where am I going with all this you ask? Simple, you can plan your life out to the last detail, but it’s so true that life is what happens when you’re busy making plans, and as time goes on, events both positive and negative end up having a wonderful and incredible influence on your life and your decisions, and even your outlook on life. I look at Ellen and I see myself, if I were ever to have a twin sister it would be her, because I share her enthusiasm for life and for helping people, her love of everyone, and her willingness to be as open as possible regardless of the possible outcomes. All I can tell you is just live your life however you want to live it, and let the rest of the world be damned, because you’re the one that has to live with you and your decisions. If you try to live your life for somebody else you will never be happy, you have to live the life you were meant to, even if it means going through hell and back which I have, and which Ellen has as well. Nobody’s life is perfect, two of my his include chronic anxiety and depression, and yes I still get depressed sometimes, I still cry myself to sleep at night some days, but when I looked back and asked myself if I had to do it all over again what would I change? Only answer I can give myself is, not one thing! Life truly is a journey that cannot be planned, because it has a way of throwing things and obstacles in your path, that may not seem like a blessing at the time, but eventually end up being some of the best things that could’ve ever happened to you, so no matter what happens in life, good or bad, and believe you me I know what that is. I know the lead lost my life more than once, I’ve lost every penny I had after I was forced to go on long-term disability and being rejected by the insurance companies at first, having to survive on almost nothing, except hope, but that’s life, or shall I say that’s part of the mystery of life, and while I didn’t enjoy having 37 operations, the shortest of which was a mere six hours long, everything that’s happened has led me to where I am now into the person that I am now, and I am forever grateful to the good Lord up above, to chance or fate, and to everybody in my life who have stuck by my side through thick and thin. I may not have a lot as far as materialistic things, but if wealth was measured by luck and love, I would be the wealthiest man in this entire world. I have a husband that stood by my side for 30 years, Suffering with me and watching me go through all those operations, and always being there for me never once ever doubting that I would be OK. I also have a wonderful family and I’m thrilled to still help my mother and the father alive because without them I wouldn’t even exist. Too many of us measure the success of one’s life by the amounts in our bank accounts or how big your houses or what kind of car we drive, but the one major thing that I’ve been taught is that none of that matters, because in the end we are all forced to give it up anyways, because you can’t take it with you into the afterlife, and quite frankly nobody truly cares how much money you have, they only care about the quality of your character, and when my time finally does come I pray to God that people will look back and be able to remember me for the good things that I was able to do for them, And for others, I don’t give a rats ass if they bury me in a shoebox, as long as I’m remembered with love, because I was able to eat affect positive change in other peoples lives, then I can die a very very happy man knowing that my life actually did mean something after all, and that to me is the most successful life one can have. Thank you so much for listening, and thanks for posting this video, to be honest when I first watched Ellen I really didn’t like her that much, but then I got to know her story, and I fell in love with her, it’s just a shame we live in two completely different worlds because nothing would make me happier than to meet her face-to-face, we would probably laugh ourselves to death, but what a death it would be! She is mostly vegan - it’s a process & that’s Ok 💖 I quit dairy in 2007, but if I’m at a gathering where the only vegetarian meal has a bit of cheese I’ll eat it. I quit meat in 2/2015, but still ate fish maybe 3-4 times a month. I quit seafood NY’s day this year 2019. I ate some seafood once because I forgot & bought something from TJ’s I had bought for years. It’s a process 💕 People get caught up in the all or nothing - but cutting down animal consumption is a great step - it brings down supply & demand & saves animals.

I remember a lot people were coming out in the 90's, they all have their stories and the most of them lost their career and never had them back. Ellen is just this one person who is now shown, because she got another chance and she took it and is successful now. And I am happy for her, but don't forget all the people who never came back, who's career was destroyed by homophobic idiots!

When I was child my teacher actually sad that she used to love Ellen before she found out that Ellen was homosexual and my teacher also added "how disgusting is that". I never understood such a behaviour and the idea of one not being able to respect another. It is also very sad that there are still children who have been and will be educated by people like my teacher, I am not telling that all people are disrespectful but I am telling that we need to do our best to educate the new, current and old generations to recognise, accept and respect to our differences as long as those differences do not harm us.
This is shocking in so many ways... I mean it’s ridiculous enough to even be disgusted by something that doesn’t affect someone’s personal life at all, but I guess we can’t change that everybody is entitled to their own opinions.
But that a teacher can’t keep that to themselves and instead tell their students how disgusting that is, this is terror on a whole new level. It’s like these students don’t even have the choice to develop own beliefs because from the beginning they get told what to think about certain topics.
I just really feel the deepest love for my mom right now because she raised me to be a rebel and question everything.
