Thank you for the share. This will help the mini get thru its growing pains. 😂 Chinese have the whole center drive gear on the shaft thing figured out. I think there is a weight limit for that type setup and they use cheap Monkey metal gears and theirs do not break usually. Glad to see the baby max getting a hand up to get going.
Yea it’s unfortunate but as far as I know this is traxxas first go at direct drive. Nothing is perfect and hopefully they do a rolling change on it soon. But until then we do this! Thanks for watching!
They didn't engineer a new diff they used their original planetary diff from the 90's brushed trucks. Huge mistake on their part because they are going to be warrantying so may diffs in the coming months. I give it 3 months and they'll release an ultimate version for $369 with upgraded diffs...
They totally did engineer a new diff, the only thing these new diffs share with the 2wd trans from the 90s is that it uses planetary gears inside, and I don’t even think they share those gears just the style.
@Jack-ce8we Right they just merged the 2 diffs together, but your right they copied the planetary's and then made them out of monkey metal. At least the old 2wd were solid steel, at least mine were. I wonder if that would be stronger than this new crap metal they use. Might be worth trying.
This is a great tutorial! I feel like it'd be cheaper to just start with a decent truck, though. But if you got a Mini Maxx already, this is invaluable. Another $60 bucks (if you go Jennys) and a couple hours of diffing to make it live up to the advertising seems crazy to me. Either way, ya got another subscriber. Great information here.

Thank you man! Appreciate you watching. I used 7k because I had it but you can certainly use a different weight. I’m sure it will have some effect, but To be honest the truck is so over powered on 3s I don’t think any combination of diff oil weight will help until the center diff is released for this truck. The center is really what controls where the power goes front to rear. The individual front/ rear weight controls more how each wheel will act once it loses traction. For instance if you have 10k vs 100k in the front, the diff will be more “locked” . In my on road car that I race with, I use silicone ear plugs in the front diff and 2k in the rear which helps it rotate around corners while the front pulls it through the corner since it’s essentially locked. That’s the best example I can give of what the front/ rear diff weights do. I hope this helps!
