To be fair, it's got Bleach's coattails to ride on. That's not to say the success isn't deserved, of course; Kubo is a masterful character designer and that's half the battle with a new series, and he has a good grasp on how to set up a world, which makes people invested.

The peak of power for the Naruto world in Part 1 was using 5 different elements at once, summoning creatures the size of buildings, and certain kill jutsus that cost the user their life even if they failed. It didn't take long for Shippuden to throw all that away, and a lot of fans lost interest in the series shortly after Pein. Bleach, on the other hand, never had a hardset rule to how powerful things could get, aside from the pretty early dismissal of the notion that Zero Squad couldn't take on a Gillian. The most powerful character ever seen before TYBW could disintegrate slightly above average humans through his strength, and planetary level feats were the norm by the halfway point. Aside from the rushed nature of the story towards the end, there wasn't anything different from it that we hadn't been trained to expect. It still felt like Bleach. These are just my personal thoughts on it, of course, and while they may not be 100% accurate to reality, I think it's still fair to say that Kishimoto failed to maintain the level of trust among his fans that Kubo did.

I would be fine with it, but i think it sucks that it's considered a branch of the bleach series. It doesnt feel the same is all, but i do like the story, characters & art

Just give the soul society a different title, and revert the fact that it is in the same universe as bleach. And i think it'd be a solid story
