Wish I had this knowledge before riding with my 3.5yo. We were TERRIFIED! My son was screaming bloody murder. I had one arm around him, other hand's fingers gripping the grating, one foot against the opposite seat. I was scared he'd fly across and hit the other side. I don't know why there isn't a handle bar, a seat belt, anything! I waved to the ride operator as we passed and he stopped it for us. I apologized as we got off and he said "Don't worry about it. Happens ALL the time." We rode roller coasters all day over and over, but this one made me nauseous. And the nausea didn't go away. Found out that night I was pregnant! So the Mickey Wheel gives us both terrifying and wonderful memories.
“Don’t review something bad because it scares you. That means it did its job.” As a business owner, I pay a lot of attention the online reviews from clients, and I think a lot of people don’t get the point of reviews, or what the star ratings mean! 🤷🏻♂️
Agreed! I love this ride! I was a having a great time on this thing and my mom actually decided she wanted to go on it too! After we realized that it was swinging we were having such fun but a little nervous. So I decided to stand up and shake the cart back and forth to face it head on and we had such a blast!!!!!
To your point on Mr. Incredible and Frozone, I agree. They missed the small mark on that one. Adding Frozone would’ve also added a POC character which would’ve been nice.
So interesting to learn about the trivia to control the color of the lights! The swinging gondolas look like fun, but I’m still too nervous to try it. 😆
Thanks for showing the reality of some of these rides, there are differences in how much loss of equilibrium people can tolerate and how soon that loss of balance will return, for some it is minutes others it is days. Why waste an entire expensive trip to Disneyland with bouts of a ride induced case of vertigo?
This reminds me of the Ferris wheel at Santa Cruz boardwalk, sorta. This one is a lot taller which is cool. But the Santa Cruz one you can pull a lever to hold the cart in place, which makes you go upside down on the top. IDK if it’s still there, but i imagine there are similar ones at other places. I would love to ride this one.
Ok the first time I went on this I had no idea what to expect and I was terrified, but.... the WORST part was my mind envisioning the gondola swinging off the ride, landing in the water and being trapped in that gondola cart under water. That’s what terrifies me the most about that wheel of torture!!! Even so, I ride it every darn time and watch my life flash before my eyes and relive my absolute fear of drowning all over again lol.
I had this exact same thing happen the first time I went! I started thinking it was going to swing off. Against all feelings of angst, I stood up and started shaking the cart back and forth because in my mind if I was going to die I was going to have a good time doing it!!! LOL
It’s really fun but definitely terrifying. Personally I think the most intense experience is the left side of the swinging gondola. I can confidently say it’s up there with the more thrilling rides
I'm glad you paid homage to the ORIGINAL hundred+ year old (1920) version in Coney Island, NYC. They are known as "Eccentric Ferris Wheels" which was an impressive feat for its time. The original Coney version, called the "Wonder Wheel" has carried tens of millions of riders without a single accident and has been featured in countless movies, commercials, and music videos. Operating the Wonder Wheel requires a seasoned machine man's touch as it uses an old fashioned street/subway car electric controller with an additional huge hand lever brake. Thus requiring the operator to know the rides sounds, load factor, ambient weather, and etc. It also turns on a gear and sprocket like system around the wheel's perimeter unlike the modern hydraulic system on the Disney version. It is also illuminated with vintage incandescent lightbulbs of its era on one side (same as those of the NYC subway system of the bygone era), and with vintage pink neon tube lighting on the other. It is an iconic national landmark along with the nearby Cyclone rollercoaster and Steeplechase Parachute Jump tower. Disney copied the ride without consulting with the Coney Island family that owns & operates the ride, typical.
Have they added any sort of device to secure you in the swinging gondolas? (Maybe they could make them optional?) Only been on that ride once, but was alone and ended up in a car with people I didn't know. Was unprepared for how much those things actually move, and totally almost fell forward onto the strangers across from me when it started swinging. Scary and a bit embarrassing, to say the least (mostly embarrassing). The swinging would have been great if I didn't feel I had to hold on (to not much to do so in there, if I recall correctly) for dear life with every swing.
People like to complain about the Pixar Pal-A-Round... yet forget that it is a replica of the Wonder Wheel at Coney Island here in NY. Thanks for bringing the Coney Island one up. So if anything, they should be complaining about the Wonder Wheel instead because if it wasn't FOR the Wonder Wheel, the Pixar Pal-A-Round wouldn't exist. That being said, I've been on the one in Coney Island and I LOVE it. Provides a stunning view of the beach and boardwalk. Yes it can be scary, but for others that thrilling bit is all part of the unique experience
With the size of the USA you forgot to consider how few people live near New York City. Thrill rides are not always a 'thrill" for everybody, have some consideration for differences after you learn geography.
Daughter loves the bears from Brave, so she was so excited to ride in their car when we were there (glad it wasn't the swinging car... I can't do that one)
My first time in DCA, the first ride I rode was the wheel and me and my friends chose the swinging gondolas and it was waaaayyy scarier than I expected 😂
Will always remember my first time on swinging gondolas, I knew the moved but wasn't ready haha my husband could see the slide coming and laughed his head off at my expectation when it slid backwards toward my side haha
I think it is always a good call out that although the swinging cars are WAY more fun (scary for some) the fixed cars actually take you a lot higher since the moving cars roll DOWN from the top. To me the best thing about the fixed cards is that view from the top. The swingers really don't give that same high-atop-the-wheel views!
OMG, who does NOT love this amazing experience. There's nothing like it. Love, love, love the swinging gondola. Go Gondola - Or Go Home! :-) Thanks, Chris and Amanda and little Miles for the endless fun on this channel. So appreciate you guys!!! Hope to see you in the parks with the new Magic Key!
My daughter and I did this ride a few years ago and for the life of me I can't remember which side we went on. Which most likely means it was the swinging side. It scared me so much i have blocked it from memory. I remember being in a rush so I'm sure it was the swinging side. We had a lunch date with princesses we didn't want to miss. Either way, it was a great day and I'm totally up to do the swinging side again. LOL
I love this ride during night time, just so great to hop on after walking around all day. The breeze is nice and the view is phenomenal. It's so simple yet one of my favorites, it really feels like I'm a kid whenever I ride this.
So I did a’ non-swinging’ one, and they still sway. For someone who is afraid of heights, I found it terrifying! But I agree with Chris, Although I hate the ride, I think it is a good ride for others. I would never give it a bad review.
Love this ride. Rode on the non-swinging Gondolas with my nephew and he freaked out when the swinging gondola came barreling towards us. It was so funny.
I am glad someone gave you sunscreen!!!! I was like OH NO!!! His nose is burning!!!!!! I am glad you showed us, cause there is no way my scared behind is getting on that ride hahahahahaa great video!!!!!!!!!!!!
Though not my favorite by a long shot, the Pal-Around certainly delivers the thrills. Still, I can understand why many rate it low based on how their own fear level and the fact they are stuck in a small cage and dangling so high for what feels like long periods (but really isn't) takes them beyond being able to fully enjoy or appreciate the thrill aspect of it.
There are differences in how much loss of balance a person can tolerate. The swinging of the cars can induce vertigo, where a person will be dizzy, nauseated and unable to function for minutes to days. Why are you so eager to induce that ? Or do you enjoy making people miserable?
I can't believe this is the most hated ride! I love the swinging gondolas. My sons and I laugh from the time the swinging starts until the ride is over. It's a favorite.
I started visiting g Disneyland back during the ticket books. I would go several times a year. I moved away 40 years ago and have o ly visited the park a few times since. Your channel always brings back good memories. Thank you.
We have intentionally only ridden the non-swinging gondolas, and we love the view!! Thank you PPP for making this video so more park guests can make an informed choice!
I love the Pixar pal around especially when your next to a family that doesn't expect the swinging and they scream like crazy lol. Great video keep it up
I cannot ride the swinging gondolas because I KNOW I'd barf XD Your Secrets Reveled videos have been TERRIFIC! I actually learned new things! Thank you for sharing secrets!!
Thank you for riding the Pal-A-Round. My wife and I have never ridden the ride. We really enjoyed the experience you shared and hopefully we’ll have an opportunity to ride it next time we visit the parks.
I went on the Pixar Pal-Around when it was the Sun Wheel. I think we rode the swinging gondolas, but it was so long ago I'm not sure. You'd think I'd remember something like that. LOL.
I’ve never felt more like I was in legitimate torture than while I was sitting in that swinging gondola. If I never ride it again, I won’t be sad about it.
I have never noticed the motion sickness bags! Ha, I will Tomorrow! Thanks for all of your informational videos, they will enhance my Disney resort trip this week!
I tricked my family into riding the swinging Pal Around he he. 😈 we laughed 😂 for the most part. except for one person who was pretty scared. The person that was scared admitted to liking the ride but they would prefer not to ride it again. I had always wanted to try it but nobody wanted to do it with me so I took matters into my own hands. 🙌🏼 One of my favorite memories and videos🎥. Definitely worth it.😇😁
100% my least favorite ride...even on the non-swinging.... but I'm deathly terrified of heights, so I can't knock it! Also why I can see why it's easily the #2 rated ferris wheel in the world! I totally understand why ferris wheel lovers absolutely love it!
I really need to go on the swinging gondolas sometime. I always want to, but most of my family is afraid of heights and they'll barely go on the non-swinging ones with me.
My brother loves the swinging gondolas. However, we didn't secure his wheelchair enough so we all freaked out except him since it felt like a rollercoaster.
Only been to Disneyland once and the Mickey Fun Wheel as it was called at that time was a must do ride for me. Thanks for the video, brought back some wonderful memories.
My mom spent 3 days at the resort for her 85th birthday - and she *loved* “The Wheel”. E just had her memorial service, a picture of her on the wheel made it into the service. It kinda has a special place for us.
I love this ride! I remember going on it as a young kid and not being prepared for the swinging cars, at all! Hahah, but for me it will always be the sun wheel from days past.
I like the swinging ones more personally. They make it more exciting. But it does make me a little nervous due to not being strapped in. Lol still a blast.
I’m a huge Disney fan and I try to go to Disneyland as often as I can, but I had never been on the Pixar pal around out of fear. Finally conquered my fears and got on the last time I was there. I loved it!!
Had a great experience with my friend Oscar on the swinging gonalas. It was his first time and it was HIS DECISION to go on that side. I was busten up laughing. Hahaha
I've never been on the ride before. Maybe because I've only been to DCA two times so far. I've searched TH-cam for POV of rides for both parks and now, from this video I just might try all three of them out. Thank you for creating this video. It is very helpful.
My friend and I had to share a swinging gondola with this senior couple once and the husband had to use the motion sickness bag towards the end. I never shared a swinging gondola again.
I had a blast on this thing! I was freaking out at first but it was still really fun. I decided instead of sitting down to make the most out of it so I stood up and start shaking the cart back and forth on the hook. The adrenaline was unreal!!!! My mom decided to join me at the last minute instead of missing out! We had such a great time by making the very most of the time we were given! When people get freaked out they usually miss out on a lot. I’m a person that faces things head on instead of missing out and being controlled by fear. When something is genuinely dangerous then it’s time to say when! But don’t let your fear control you in a situation when you can benefit from trying new things!
My sister and mom have always called this the "Sun Wheel of Death!". Ihave several memories of my mom getting off this ride and rushing to the trashbin. XD
I like the swinging gondolas! I'm taking a friend to Disney for her first time, thinking of going on this with no prior warning... lol
You will either be best friends after or never see them again :D
😂😂😂Cruel!
Hahaha

@@AtariTheAnimator Swinging 🥴
Did you not see the cars swinging and hear people screaming? How do you make that mistake?
People scream on lots of rides that are not that scary. I think it's the lack of seatbelts that made it so terrifying. @lambotama
I'm team NO swinging 😅 I LOVE thrill rides but that swinging gondola is a thing of actual nightmares!!
I stand swinging this back and forth every time I go on it! It’s terrifying but so much fun!
“Don’t review something bad because it scares you. That means it did its job.” As a business owner, I pay a lot of attention the online reviews from clients, and I think a lot of people don’t get the point of reviews, or what the star ratings mean! 🤷🏻♂️

I went on this with my boyfriend thinking the swinging gondolas looked cute and fun…we were terrified for a bit but we loved it
Used to call it "Mickey's Wheel of Terror." Still ride it, though!
Love that name!!!
That is the EXACT name we gave it too! I hated it so much that I love it (strange I know)
Others call it the Mickey's wheel of death including myself
I call it the Wheel of death.
I love it! Great name!
The static gondolas are the best when riding at night. Stopping at the top and looking over the park is amazing!
Thanks for showing the reality of some of these rides, there are differences in how much loss of equilibrium people can tolerate and how soon that loss of balance will return, for some it is minutes others it is days. The swinging gondola is so fun! My 9 year old sister and I got on it today, we would definitely ride it again
Miles is so brave. I have never had the guts to even do the static gondolas let alone the swinging gondolas! Way to go Miles!
I used to be terrified of the swinging gondolas but I re-rode it to conquer some fears and I actually enjoyed it!

I pretty much agree about the swinging gondola because I get really sick on swings.
Gondolas, Gondalas; tomato, tomahto. Let’s call the whole thing off, and then have frozen Dole Whip with 🍿!!
Sounds good to Amanda. 💙💚😂

The swinging gondolas are crazy fun! But definitely not for the faint of heart. Miles is riding like a champ!
Totally!
It was worse when they were installing World of Color and had the lagoon drained so you were looking down 80 feet straight at concrete
I am one of the ones who is not a fan of this ride but it is always fun to watch when it is all lit up at night.
Watching this while I'm stuck in the virtual queue for the Magic Key! 🥰️✨ Thanks for making the time pass faster!
Me too!
you bet!! Yay for the Magic Key!

I love this ride, one of my favorites. I call it Mickey's Wheel of Death. Thanks for finally covering this, you're awesome.

YAY!! That is music to my ears. It's exactly what we want to do!
I've been on it twice, once as Fun Wheel, and Pal Around. I have yet to try the swinging Gondolas but hope to try it soon.
I can't believe they don't have seatbelts in there lol
The more I think about it the more I hate this ride, lol.

That’s really good that they have a side for each to choose. Think I’d defo choose the non-swinging 😂
Just bought my first annual pass and came across your channel, so now I'm binge watching your videos! Fun and I'm learning!
Thank you 😊

We went on it as a family, but we had no idea what we were getting into... Definitely one of the times we laughed the most all together 😂😂
Romi you are a champ!
was recently in the parks and looked around for you guys everywhere! trying to go again for christmas and maybe i'll have better luck.

One day I will make it to Club 33. It’s on my bucket list for sure! My friend Nate is interviewing you in a couple of weeks. He’s so very excited!
My friend and I had to share a swinging gondola with this senior couple once and the husband had to use the motion sickness bag towards the end. I never shared a swinging gondola again.
My 11 year old really likes the swinging gondolas. I minded that one when we were there a couple weeks ago.
New to your channel, really like it! I have watched some WDW vloggers glad to find a good quality Disneyland TH-cam channel!
I never knew about the color changing that used to be at Pixar Pier. So cool!!
We have yet to ride this!! I’d pick the static gondola. Thanks for the line tip Chris!!
This ride scared me the first time I rode it. I am glad to know they have a non swinging option. I didn't know that. Thanks
My sister and mom have always called this the "Sun Wheel of Death!". Ihave several memories of my mom getting off this ride and rushing to the trashbin. XD
I love the pal around and I love the swinging side! I also LOVE Amanda's Avengers jersey!!
