Old fart here. I envy you younger players so much. I could have only dreamed of this kind of instruction when I first picked up a guitar over 30 years ago. Pre-internet, pre-smart phone, pre-youtube. All we had were limited Mel Bay books and anyone who knew a little more than you was willing to teach you. I can't wait to see what the newer generation of players brings us.

This one here is a gemstone. I've seen so many youtubers just use chords seemingly out of nowhere and layer stuff in daws same with melodies they tell to keep in mind a tempo and get it from nowhere. But the stuff that John says makes sense from the get go. Singing progression then notes makes all the theory come together.
Thank you for your work. This thing right here makes creating music so much fun and interesting.

AMAZING VIDEO! The short artist segments alone are worth the price of admission (and a Thumbs Up!). A lot of us know who those guitarists are and may even have a healthy respect for and appreciation of them, but not as many have taken the time to view them ALSO as artists and humans expressing their own unique thing. Watching SRV literally brought tears to my eyes--especially know the demons he battled. Anyways, another awesome video. Thanks!

I have watched thousands of TH-cam videos on how to improve guitar playing… Lesson after lesson… These covering from the very basics to the most advanced. This one video is the most effective I have ever seen. It’s like introducing magic to players, who have been struggling for years. And for those players who don’t quite understand what this guy is saying I would suggest that you watch the video over and over again and then consider some of the basic Guitar lessons and it will come together… You’ll get it but he makes it look like magic love it I’ve never been a Patreon member, but I’m definitely considering getting more involved with this. With that said, I’m going to start listening to all of his videos that he has on TH-cam for just everybody and when I’m done, I’ll make a decision as to whether I’m gonna become a Patreon member or not but this video is awesome.

This is very similiar to an old jazz excercise my drum teacher taught me 45 years ago. You scat a rhythm by counting it (accurately) and then orchestate it on the kit. 2 bar loop.

I learned from books, magazines, and friends growing up -- that were often wrong -- and made things unnecessarily difficult. 😆
I love that you not only give the "what" to play, but distinguish yourself among teachers by SIMPLY & UNDERSTANDABLY give the "why" in your videos.
    Thank you.

I started getting into Hendrix 2 years back, and after listening to him I noticed he played a lot of scat or he sang in unison with his guitar, and that had me wondering if this was a part of his brilliance... alongside his technical skills of course.
I could be wrong, but I concluded the difference between a legend like Jimi and the rest of us, is that he could imagine (or experience) the music before he played it... where as we play within a framework that fits with the music, and although we improvise, we typically play one note at a time - in the moment, in other words, we basically 'wing it' while playing our way through the song.
I never really explored the idea further, but after seeing this video with more examples of legends, and seeing they all do the same thing... they literally play what they have in mind, as opposed to playing along to music with learned scales and licks, hoping it sounds good etc.
And although this connection wasn't fully made in this video... it was more about the feel etc... I think this could be one of the most important guitar/music lessons you will ever encounter.
From this point on, I will make it my mission to master this and encourage my brain to think of music, then level up my guitar skills to the point that I can PLAY WHAT I THINK... which in my opinion is the definition of a guitar maestro.
    Really cool channel! Just subscribed!

this is great! one of the underrated technique imo.. because most of my circle just doing all the shredding, technical stuff and not going back to this basic of just making music.. subs! :)
