Totally agree… I’m 61 and started mine 9 years ago. My channel is more about camping/cooking and some DIY things, and even a little bit of blacksmith stuff. I’ve had the opportunity to meet dozens of my TH-cam friends in person over the years and many of them have become my closest friends. TH-cam has become a place for me to meet like minded people who enjoy doing the same things as me, and that makes me happy. I also like the idea of recording the things I do for my kids to watch someday, and even for me to watch since I don’t seem to take pictures of things anymore like I used to. Lastly, I must say you have the best blacksmithing channel, and the best personality of any of the blacksmith guys on YT. 👍🏻
I was 61 when I started my wildlife/nature channel. I just wanted to archive a bunch of videos and surprisingly the channel has grown a bit. I probably need to Vlog a little, so my viewers know who is behind the lens.
I have learned all about blacksmithing from you, I have spent a lot of money building up a forge. Now I make more things that I come up with myself, but it's only been days since I made the hook you made last time. You are fantastic both at filming and at how you explain things, couldn't have had a better teacher. Thanks😀
I started mine post 50. The non-high-$$-production-cost channels I followed inspired me that I could do it. I find the time by filming what I'm already doing anyway, fixing stuff around the house and occasionally building something.
I agree, I started 10 years ago, but it was to show a few folks (that didn't live near me) the woodsplitter I had built. And like i say regularly.... common sense is not that common.
While I would never take the time or money to start a channel, I like seeing the every man channels taking on daily tasks. If you feel that you are too old to start something or don't have the motivation, watching others in the same stages of life inspire you. Good ideas are always out there. What I don't like is the saturation of videos that muddle the facts on topics, so if you are looking for instruction on a topic, you have to watch 10 or 20 videos to get the concensus of what is the right approach. Mostly people want to see what things look like in action, regardless of the channel when they are considering a purchase which is my main reason for watching youtube. The turn off are the polished presenters who talk at lightning speed and then there are the cute cut ins to the "sponsor of this video". I don't envy those who are addicted to making videos thinking they "owe" it to their subscribers to keep making videos weekly at all costs. That's crazy. It takes over your life. Not for me.
I'm headed for 40, and have been thinking about restarting to post video's on my channel(old tool restorations, vintage tools, woodworking/blacksmithing/electronics projects), of the sort I used to post. I stopped back when I was demonitized during Adpocalypes 1.0, when the hours watched and subscriber requirements were first introduced.
@@JohnSwitzer Up until adpocolypse 1.0, I'd only earned $27, which I never cashed out. My intention with the channel initially was to build a passive income stream, vy videoing and showing projects I'd already be working on. My most viewed video, even ~8yrs after publishing is the reassembly of a hydro-static lawnmower transmission.I also got my most negative comment ever, saying I wouldn't have encountered the issues I did if I'd followed the manual(for a non-serviceable transmission) and that the elderly dog that had wandered into the shop during the video would be drinking oil. The same commentor was aghast at my "rusty"(well rusated/patined before I got them, and I'd derusted minimally and oiled to be functional. ) tools,
I am so glad you made this I have been thinking about doing a Chanel just for me and my family..! … well let me be honest..! I want to see if I can improve on different aspects of my life if I record it so I can look back and watch it myself..! And TH-cam will keep me a little more accountable and not try to cheat myself ..!

Always enjoy your videos on both channels. Keep them coming, sir!
Greetings from East Tennessee.

Thanks
John, Great points! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
My pleasure!
Living in a small town, I don't need another window for my neighboors to peer thru, to see what I'm up to.
That seemed like a complete and reasoned assessment, thank you sir!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Those are some popular topics

I think that is a good reason to make videos

Just saw that your shop is missing doors . Would it not be warmer in winter with them?
Yes it would, but there just hasn't been time, maybe 2025 will be the year
@@JohnSwitzer Had a door fall my work shop in a barn took me a year to put on a new set of doors on .
