Eric Dier DID play well. It's just as cringe to think De Ligt can't improive Utd as it is to say anything bad about Dier last season for Bayern.
I'm an arsenal fan and I honestly believe United are getting their act together in a major way with great extremely watchable young players Mainoo Garnacho Amad Hojlund none of whom have reached their potential yet and now they have Yoro and De Ligt and Zirkzee it's brilliant business not just good business. He started pretty much as many games as upamecano and played alongside Dyer in 13 of the 15 appearances that Dyer made.
They are hearing the same BS that the media has been spreading, and they will change their mind when presented with facts.
Bayern fans petitioned for him to stay and even they have said he's gone because he wasn't happy at the club and the board needed to cut the wage bill.

Martinez does alot more than just do a job in the PL. I cant explain how or why but United are a completly different team with him in it.
He lifts the whole team , he's padding helps us get up the field , when he's on the pitch the team feel comfortable taking risks and he keeps everyone in line
I can explain it very simply mate. With him in the team since he joined 2 years ago our win rate is 66%. When he is out it drops to 50%. he is simply outstanding

Officially and undeniably one of the worst Utd CBs to ever play in the PL. Played in some of the most humiliating defeats in the club's history, most notably the 7-0 embarrassment at Anfield

They go 4-2-4 in a high press, and 4-2-3-1 going forward. Also in a 3-1-6 attacking with inverted wingers at times and overlapping the wingers frequently.

De Ligt has the attributes to be a defender in the John Terry mould. He’s one of those tough, last ditch body on the line type defenders. good passer too. At 25 has good experience. Should be going into his prime years. May not have lit it up yet but that doesn’t mean he still doesn’t have time!

De ligt has played at the highest level. He will do well
De Ligt is an instant upgrade on the rest of our defenders, along side Martinez and Yoro. He is perfect for the transitional play, the gaffer wants to exhibit. Watch this space..

If people actually watched him play, rather than jumping on the bandwagon with the negative bs some pundits are spouting they would see he is an exceptional player, too many people unfortunately cant think for themselves and have their own opinion or rather they adopt other peoples opinion as theirs
He's a good player, but he hasn't been exceptional, that's why Bayern were 50/50 if they wanted to keep him to allow him to "compete" with players like Dier. There's a reason why Holland chose other CBs.
I think he's better than what they have, and he's got the potential to be exceptional, but he hasn't been exceptional because if he had he would have been first choice, not an option

It’s a good thing for a team not to have an identity. That makes it hard for other teams to plan against them. I’m not bothered about it as long as we are turning out good football and results.

The nuance is that he wasnt a marque player that Utd needed to force the transfer through, thats the point. Not that he's a terrible player, but theres a reason why Bayern were 50/50 because he wasnt the player they wanted to build the defense around, same with Juventus. United has the same if not higher status as these clubs, not a 2nd tier club picking off good players from top clubs.
He couldn’t even get in the team ahead of Eric dier
The reason he struggled at Juve was because the club was in transition right after his arrival with them changing managers twice in three years but Bayern still paid top money to get him. And Bayern hasn't been a model of stability either with managers coming and going. The myth that Dier had taken his place is also false with his 14 out of 15 appearances coming in partnership with De light.
De ligt started 20 of the 23 games he was available for after Dier joined bayern. They formed a cb partnership. Dier did NOT replace him!

Every signing is a risk but this is a view point with no anti United attached to it, but they do include the addons which only get paid if targets are met, for the pair it's 50 million with 10 million if targets are met. I think it's a good deal and for souness to class de ligt as light weight is ludicrous. I'm pretty sure the months ahead will shut him up

Remember when Tottenham played Ajax in the CL semi two legs and one thing we learned was Ajax in the 2nd leg was de ligt could not handle up and under long balls into the box.. it was a total disaster. Llorente schooled him.. and was the big reason why they lost that 2nd leg
