2023: This is the best instructions I have found anywhere for this unit. Seems notoriously difficult. I've had debates with people on how Uniden should provide instructions on how to do this.
Is it just me or does the opening music remine of old 70 music. Mostly bad music with girls. The scanner input was a lot of help, thank you.
Nice job. I have been staring at my 15x for almost a year and couldn't program it. Thank you very much! Keep us the good work for those of us who are overwhelmed by the 15x.
Thanks ! I had 30 years of programming Mobiles and Bases Stations as well as training users and STILL my scanner sat on the shelf for a couple months before I figured it out.....
Just bought this scanner and downloaded free scan brilliant video. New to the hobby so helped me get started. Now next job is to get frequencies for the uk. Thanks
Well done. Got mine just few days ago and this tutorial helped me a lot. Thanks !
Great job and very well explained on programing the BCT15x. My only question is where do you get the Freescan software. I have tried going on Radio Reference and am a Preminum member but still can not find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
i have 3 of these 15x's
one being brand new because about 3 weeks ago the one i have on my nightstand .. sometimes i turn it off before falling to sleep, and sometimes i fall asleep and wake up in the middle of the night and turn it off.
well on this one night it was working fine (audio coming out) when i fell asleep and then when i woke up i seen it was still scanning and stopping on the busy channels but NO audio was present. i turned it off and found time a week or 2 later to look at it , i even tried using a pair of headphones and a ext. speaker but no AUDIO from those as well.. I did a full reset to see if that might fix it but to no avail.
i did send uniden a email but its the weekend so i was hoping to hear back from them this week sometime, but your video here doesn't sound like i will .
i have a small amount of experience with a soldering iron and even bought a "rework" reflow hot air station that ive used once on a dji drone remote controller
with success ;-) any ideas for me before i open up the hood on this thing.. thanks in advance - steve
Just retired and I am returning to the hobby. Bought a Bearcat BCT15X. Looking for a copy of FreeScan to get it up and running. Can't seem to locate a copy on the internet.
Very informative and helpful! Thank you. The frequencies I want to monitor are all available on the Radio Reference database. But, where can the CTCSS / DCS and the related parameters be found for a particular frequency?
should be right next to it on radio reference

I was just downloading w Free Scan. Really nice software. Your videos are great . Thank you for posting!!!
Thanks for the info. Where were you able to get not only the frequencies but the tones , band width etc? I have found a couple police groups would not tell me what frequencies they were on.
Sir, I have a question, my computer is old windows 7. Will the programming with freescan work the same on my BCT15X? THANKS!
What software
do you know if this would work for a BCT15 (not x)?
Thank You. Now I understand how to lock out certain agencies within a system without locking out the entire bank.
How do I get rid of the Public Service scanning? I only want to scan a handful of conventional high band and uhf frequencies, nothing else. All the little icons for the services are turned off.
Nice video! Well done!
i was wondering if you could help me out programing a trunked system into the bct15x?
First of all, if you don't have the No-Cost FreeSCAN software here's the link
www.sixspotsoftware.com/downloads
As far as programming the Trunking systems, I've decided it's easier to send radioreference.com the $7.50 for 90 days access and download the programming for my local trunking systems. Programming a Trunking systems requires a ton of monitoring in order to get all the "group information & user information.
The Erod1944 Channel so you do NEED a computer to program a trunked system?
I think it's possible to program Trunking Systems manually but I fooled around with that process and gave up. Even if you download the data from radioreference.com it's still extraordinarily difficult to gather the Trunking System Data, Figure out the crazy schemes in the scanner and then actually do it. I gave up the idea but then, there's only 3 trunking systems in my area and I don't care about two of them..... A computer while not necessary is certainly the suggested method.....
This may be useful to you and give you some idea of what you're working with;

The Erod1944 Channel thank you very much sir! im just gonnna take the easy way and use a computer.
Yep and if that makes you crazy you can always send radioreference.com the $7.50 for 90 days access to download and install the systems in your area on your scanner. Good Luck !!
Thanks dude! Very helpful.
Thanks helped a lot.
Ik moet mijn decimalen goed zetten in dit programma hoe doe ik dat
Any recommendation's on a mobile antenna's for the BTC15X . magnetic or other .
Scanners aren't that picky concerning an antenna as they don't transmit and typically have very good receiver sensitivity.
As far as magnetic mount or hole mount, they are pretty much the same and the decision is; to drill a 3/4" hole in your roof or not. I have used simple quarter wave VHF whip antennas on a roof mag mount with good results on VHF/UHF and 800 MHz. I've used "hole mount" antennas and got the same result.
Here's an offering for a complete setup from DXEngineering. Many other companies offer the same or identical.

How do i get on?
I am getting a critical error
I cannot find the free software you are using. Can you send the link?
Here's the site where I downloaded my copy of Freescan
www.sixspotsoftware.com/downloads
The file is fssetup-218-b6.zip.zip.
@@TheErod1944Channel Is the freescan software still available? I can't seen to find it anywhere.
I'm so lost. I keep getting "cannot connect to COM3 or can't connect to scanner" .... am I supposed to have the scanner in a certain menu???
Can anybody help me program my bct15x for Australia please??
Does anybody know how to get it to scan my memories that I have programmed in it with Freescan, it is only searching.
Check out this video. It may be the problem you're talking about. If not let me know.......

Q how to get on bct15x, software page on line?
I got your message. I'll have an answer for you today or tomorrow.
GO TO: "softpotsoftware.com/downloads"
CHOOSE: "Downloads"
CHOOSE: "fssetup-218-b6.zip.zop
Open the zip file.
That should place Freescan Software on your computer and open up when you unzip the original file.
The Erod1944 Channel is there a simple way to make this easier? I was given this thing with not one instruction. I've had a bearcat before but nothing like this. I wish i still had the other one. my nickname is Lucy, and yes I'm a blond. but I still need help
Hi Lucy. No, we don't discriminate against blonds here. Here's the deal. If you had your old scanner you would find that the FCC has changed the 2-way radio band plan and made the channels "skinnier". You would possibly be hearing multiple channels so you've lost that option with your old scanner
With the 15X scanner the only way you can make it easier is to pay the $15 bucks to radioreference.com and download the service channels for your area. However, being blond, you should be able to get any lonely drooling male scanner enthusiast to program the channels for you with just a simple smile. (No double meaning on the "simple". - Sorry, I've been watching Seinfeld Clips again.....)
If you can't figure out the access on Radio Reference let me know and I'll go through it again and pass it on to you.
thanks sweetie I'll be back in touch
