I Built an Epic Greenhouse, All From Lumber I Cut Myself!

- We lost our hoop house in the winter of 2020, and I replaced it with a greenhouse that I cut all the lumber for on the mill. We have had two great summer in it so far and getting ready to plant it again in March 2023.
In this video, I'm sharing my experience building an epic greenhouse all from lumber I cut myself!
This DIY greenhouse was a fun project, and it was a great way to use some of the lumber I've been cutting on the mill. I learned a lot about proper foundation techniques using untreated lumber, roofing techniques, and more. I have no idea why I said 1920, maybe subconsciously I would like to go back 100 years, but I don't think so. Anyway, I should have said 2020, I corrected it in the description and in the CC that's the best TH-cam allows you to do without deleting the video and starting over. Being the video has been watched over 10,000 times, I don't think I'll be deleting it 😎

Winter spans the end of 2019 and beginning 2020, that is how I understood it.

Oh my gosh me too! I have a patch of land for growing and I have been learning all sorts of woodwork to get it sorted out. I would love a husband who can build things and likes gardening as much as me but I'm not sure where to find him, men I met on dating apps had no DIY skills and didn't know how to garden!

Keep looking laddies, they are out there and when you find the right one you'll have the rest of your lives to enjoy this lifestyle. This June will be 48 years of marriage for my wife and I and we started going together at age 15, I often say I was born married, and I mean that in a good way LOL

Thanks, I think about two months to build, not counting getting the logs and cutting the lumber on the mill.

I use Sun Master® Pull and Cut Greenhouse Film 6 mil, I buy it from Farmtek. It last a lot loner than what they say for me.

nope everything dried out nicely without any issues. I was just working in it yesterday getting it cleaned out to get ready to plant, probably February if this weather holds out like it did last year in PA. Got the seedlings growing under light in the basement, so it won't be long.

Very nice! Two questions: did you pour concrete around the posts, and what did you coat the inside of your DIY rain gutters with? Thx.
No concrete, I actually tried something I never tried before... I wanted to use as much of my own lumber cut on the mill as I could, so I laid a 4x6 treated down on the ground and just attached the 4x4s to it. I then went back and drove fence post in at every 4x4 and screwed through them into the post. So far it seems to have worked wonderful. I would need to try and find what I coated the gutters with, it was a flexseal type product but not flexseal. I'll see if I can find it and I'll let you know.
Interesting! Just to clarify, a 4x6 level on the ground, 4x4 vertical posts on top of that, then a 4x4 fence post next to each 4x4 and bolted together. Correct?

Believe it or not, we eat it all LOL Our two kids get some of it, and the lucky animals that my wife loves get some. I start most of the plants in the basement, put them into pots in our heated greenhouse, and then out to this one in March.

We can get snow, although the last couple of years not much. It's built to withstand what would be normal for central PA, if we get a deeper than normal I'll just rake it off as it comes down.
What about Radon gasses???
Does the plastic really work? I’m scared to bukd a greenhouse with it. We get crazy wind and rain where I am at. Polycarbonate panels or glass are the only two ways to go around here.
I have 3 buildings with greenhouse plastic I bought from Farm Tech. I just replaced plastic on a 15 x 30 building we now use for goats and chickens, I put that 4 year rated plastic on 12 years ago, and after taking it off it looks like the goats were chewing it, was the issue. It was still not brittle like I thought it would be. As far as wind about 3 years ago I started to use the wiggle wire system and that really helps. That 12 year old stuff I had the edges held down with boards and it held up all those years.

Good question, I guess for two reasons, first like you said I have a sawmill and the trees, and 2nd the cattle panel hoop house caved in from snow load so I build this one to stay up LOL
