Went there a couple of years ago and it still looks the same. I drove around and you could tell at one time this was a great city with lots of jobs and industry. The only part of town that looked ok was germantown. I stayed downtown and it was nice there as well but most of the city was depressing.
Germantown isn’t the only nice part of town. The most exclusive zip codes in Memphis are 38117 and 38120. There are multiple million dollar homes in certain parts of East Memphis. In addition, Collierville, Cordova, Lakeland, Eads, and Bartlett are all well-developed residential areas.
We are broken people who for some reason don’t fully appreciate what it Means to be born in America. If you have ever been to Detroit you would know there's no way you could mistake Memphis for it 'cause of the simple fact of the housing. The housing in Detroit is mostly large two and a-half story homes and duplexes mixed with 3 & 4 story walk-up apartment buildings, and a lot of the homes are brick. The only thing they have in common is blight and abandonment. Even with that being the case;the blocks are many times denser! Those lil' matchbox houses, some smaller than garages in Detroit, are more akin to Delta Mississippi! I don't understand. Once upon a time that was a nice neighborhood. I just don't understand why people abandoned their homes. The city should fix up the house and sell it to low income families. Everybody needs a safe place to live and to be happy.
