Sassonic hey man, coming back. But I'm thinking about getting a red parrot, would you recommend ?
+G Man Yes, I would recommend getting a Blood Parrot! If you get a Blood Parrot, make sure you have a large enough tank 55 Gallon and up would be ideal. Definitely nothing smaller than 40 gallons.
Visit several tropical fish stores and find a good one, don't automatically buy one from the very first store you visit. Make sure you get one with a mouth that doesn't looked too deformed (with dangling or kissing shaped lips), don't buy one that is any color but orange (those are dyed), and don't buy one with the the tail fin cut off (some stores sell those to make them heart shaped!!!!).
Some breeders don't sell good ones to stores so be aware. And observe the behavior for 10-15 minutes in the tank at the store and pick an interesting one. And it's easier if you house your BP's with all peaceful tank mates, don't take chances putting them with tough aggressive fish. FYI, when I bought my BP "Fireball" I watched him for 5-minutes at the store and I could tell he was an awesome fish!

He hasn't let me pet him yet, but our bond is getting strong. He watches me constantly when I'm in the room, when I'm at the dinner table he watches me eat with glowing eyes. Maybe I can start hand-feeding him and then pet him.

I agree on the fact that some parrot fish are very smart and can actually interact and acknowledge the owner in ways that no other fish can do. Mine is 9 years old.

Your blood parrot, Fireball, is so much like mine! The description matched all of his traits and behaviors! (I like to call him Mango)
Also depends on what fish were used to produce the parrot cichlids. Some are bred using Red Devils. My Parrot could never fit my rainbow shark in his mouth as the shark is too big and my Parrots mouth is too small. He is quite a character. Lots of personality !
I just got one for my 600 gallon and he schools with my three koi. It’s so cute seeing such a little fish trying to hang out with ones that are 3x bigger than him.

Wow, this was an enlightening upload. I always believed all the old info about BP, but you've alerted me to some current facts. In the past, I've ignored BP at the fish stores, but I think I may give them some attention from now on, Thanks!
+wyzemann Fish "purists" don't like hybrids, but I say whatever you enjoy owning and watching is what matters. Fireball is EASILY my best fish. Blood Parrots are more like "pets" than other fish, they actually can interact with humans there's a youtube user petting his parrot and another one lifts his in-and-out of the water, I don't think other fish do that sort of thing.
@@Sassonic I’ve been watching videos of BPs lately and I’m really liking them! I have 3 oranda goldfish (among a few other tanks) and I love them because they’re SO interactive and smart. Makes me want to get a BP tank going 😅

Yeah... I was very shocked... He also ate an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey that was small, and I think he's eaten about 4 other smaller fish as well, because they "disappeared..." So I keep nothing small in there anymore!

It's risky to mix BP with African Cichlids. I wouldn't do it. I'm moving all my aggressive Africans to another tank and just leaving the blood parrots in this tank that you saw in this video. It's better not to bend the rules, it's more fair to all the fish to put them in the safest situation.

Hi, what was size of your parrot and the prey at time of making this video ? I am thinking of putting tetras in a parrot tank but sseems way too dangerous.
The Parrot was about the size of an average man's palm. The shark was like a pinky. Don't put Parrots w/tetras, they will chase and eat them. Put Parrots with Parrots, and maybe one black convict

Some other small fish also disappeared in this tank. My money is on Fireball gobbling them up too... I don't keep any small fish anymore in this tank.

How many inches was your shark? I was thinking about getting a blood parrot but I also love my dojo loaches, They are about 5" and thinking it might not work. Maybe they are sold small enough from the store and as the bp grows larger the loaches will be full grown and too large to be a meal. How big will fireball get full grown?

The shark was 3.5 inches long. Blood Parrots get about 8 inches long, and fairly large and meaty. You need a large tank, 55 gallon is the minimum when they get big maybe 4 years old or so...
Thank you for the reply. I have 2 40g breeders and 4 10g under neath, all are set up for matten filters, 2 are quarantine, 1 hospital, 1 water temp buffer from my cold water spigot. Maybe 1 day I will get a blood parrot when I have different fish. Is there a fish that you think is more of a pet than the bp? Accept the 2ft Oscar! Lol

Hi, I do 1 water change per month, but a large one of 70%. Also, I "over filtrate" there are two canister filters in this 65g tank, each rated for 55g. And, it helps to scrub both sides of the glass and both sides of the lid of the aquarium so the maximum potential of your lights shine through. So, if you put in the time, you can make the water crystal clear!
Nice Video. I see that you kept Torpedo barbs with cichlids. Are they compatible tank mates? What is the PH of your water?
I had to take the barbs out, no it didn't work. pH in this tank is about 7.5

LOL, I don't think they could hurt a human. They are really interactive and cute fish. Some are really shy though... Even Fireball will swim and hide if I approach the tank too quickly...

+Kenneth Reyes Some outside people (not in the hobby) don't see it that way. Or in the hobby itself some keepers think the nice-looking fish like rainbow sharks, guppies, or mollies shouldn't be used because they are more in the "pet" category unlike a generic little goldfish. Plus a rainbow shark costs more than a feeder fish, you're talking $7-$20 depending on the store and the size of the fish. I think that's what it is...
it's only cruelty if you don't do it right and feed the wrong live food.which so many people do.
feeder goldfish may be a commonly accepted feeder.but they are actually one of the worse things you could feed to your fish cause they contain no nutrition and can block the ability to take in vitamin which can lead to vitamin deficiencies which leads to diseases like hole in the head.
another come problem is people don't quarantine their feeders before feeding them to their predator which can make their pet sick.they also over feed which leads to the predator attacking the feeder but not killing it or eating leading the prey item unnecessarily suffering.

Be patient. 3 weeks is nothing. He may not get comfortable for 3 more months! Also, here's a tip, approach the tank slow, don't move quickly toward him and he may not feel threatened.

BP's are definitely tougher than some people think. They can fight, they are actually tough fish. Mine haven't bitten me. Don't be mad at it for biting you.
