Just finished watching this series. What a great video. I think I’m going to start looking for a 280 to rebuild for a spare. Thanks for taking the time.
Great info. Appreciate the clarity. Your approach is the best I’ve seen. I Been looking for some info on on 280/290 lower dp’s. ……from the ayr cave shop…..is it a possibility? No pressure, just appreciate your approach. Thanks Mike. Sent from wife’s iPad, lol.
Paul, If you have a single bearing bell housing, yes there will be some play even with a new bearing due to the clearance built into the bearing. There are 2 bearing versions also (usually diesels) they should not have noticeable play. Hope that helps....Dean
Didn't know Volve had a boat motor division until today,,cool. Dean, I use Loctite 507 as a gasket in the pass on MB manual 4 sp transmissions. Have had great results, and you mite check the specs to see if it would work on future rebuilds? Great when we can share non machining content once in a while. I get to do this for next 2 month when I have jump back to sewing up interiors...:(< Thx for sharing Dean, and best to you, family, and friends over the Holiday Seasons,,Bear.
That's not good. Once the gears are damaged there not worth fixing. Best to start watching for a used replacement unit. Note the gear ratio needs to match in the lower. The upper 270-290 are all the same ratio and in most cases will interchange. Major differences are the steering puck number of screw holes and the U-Joint yoke on the engine side fine or course spline..
Always good to have information like this when you're not used to work in this kind of equipement.
Thanks Rusty !
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
Great video. I don't think this is something we will come across but you never know and it is great information, thanks
Thanks Joseph !

Question on the fly wheel cover housing/bell housing. After replacing the bearing in the housing should there be any play on the shaft ?

I have a short shaft and need a long coupling. Do you have the part number for that? :)
I'll have to check on that part number. I had an extra long coupling If I still have it I'll let you know.
Thanks. I took a gamble and ordered coupling with part number 3852268👍🏼
