SANDING BODY FILLER WITH POWER TOOLS: 1949 MERCURY CABOVER
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- We're going to show the process of sanding body filler with 40 grit sandpaper. We'll be using two power tools; an 8" orbital sander and a 6" electric DA. The key to using power tools while sanding is to hold it flat, move fast and criss cross the pattern 🔥

Chad & Jolene I am a 57yr. Old that started in a body shop at 16, & found it was something that I loved. I was blessed to work Rolls-Royce & porches for movie producers & actors. But after 30yrs. I was diagnosed with a type of arthritis that causes much pain. So I've had to retire & take things a little easier. I really enjoy watching you & Jolene it takes me back to some good times. Thank you very much, James G. In California.
Women walking through a car show with a big bag over their shoulder….or kids pushing bicycles are two of my pet hates.
I live by the rule…”if it ain’t yours….don’t touch it”…and always taught my kids the same.
When my kids were young….they weren’t allowed to open the car doors to get in or out…they had to wait for me or their mother to do it for them. Nothing worse than seeing people just fine doors open …into the car parked next to them.
Thanks for another great show guys👍
Guys can't say enough u guys have alot of loyal listener's and fans. Only thing I can say is soulmate Jolene Chad is really into u every time he talk's about u he glows!!! Special thing u guys got always remember its ok to have different views or opinions that what makes us human. At end of the day everything can be worked out. Stay true to u first then your mate. The show is such a success cause the way u to work together. Keep up the great work Batman and Catwoman.
Can't imagine anyone being disrespectful in their comments over these videos. Now I know nothing about any of this; I've never been a car guy. Don't care working on them at all. However I watch these videos a good bit, and I do recognize talent, skill, creativity and all the rest of it. And this guy has it all in spades. His ingenuity and sense of design is top-notch. .
This is what reality TV was suppose to look like.
Watched your video of yesterday and just wanted to comment on one thing. I am a 76 year old man who likes to watch TH-cam among other things. I have worked with wood for years and have learned the a Black and Decker portable work mate is a shops best friend. Watching you struggle with cutting the cowl yesterday made me think of the work mate. Check it out, you may like the versatility of this table/vise/bench.
Greetings from down under Chad and Jolene. I'm pushing 70 and you're teaching me well young fella, love your realistic nature and sincere attitude to your trade. You remind me of Professor Julius Sumner Miller, a Yank who moved to Australia in the 60's and presented a kids show on Science. You have a similar approach, please look him up, you'll get a laugh.
Your a lucky man to find a woman that enjoys car building as much as we do, it will probably hold you together through all the changes a woman goes through in life, lve seen many flip out and leave good men through them.
More sanding today, I think that's going to go on for a while as there is lot's of it to do on this build. Chad I'm sure it will look great when done, but will be a lot of work! Jolene it's nice to see you out from behind the camera for a change, though nobody can run a camera as well as you do. Both of you do great work and also work well together. Keep up the great work.
I was taugh at an early age not to do mud work with a jitterbug or a DA sander,we only use a big DA/paintbuster/mudhog to knock down the initial wipe, after that its all hands on deck, long board, short board, and the occasional softblock. I've not got much use for a straitline airfile either, they can make grooves that are a pain to fill and can actually cause more work.
Really enjoy watching you work
Sanding with a DA sander is a little tough at first and even with experience you can find yourself making some mistakes. A good quality sandpaper and sander does make all the difference. The smaller DA is harder in some ways over the bigger one but the bigger one isn't an orbital its a direct drive which can grab hardere on you and takes more concentration to keep it flat. I like it because of the fact that you've got 8" of space that it works on at a time . Joline did a great job for her first time ! I started doing body work with just a set of hand blocks and I tried a lot of times before I felt like I was doing a good job but, the sanding scratches were easier to take out with the power tools over hand tools plus a lot faster. It takes time to get anything right so just don''t give up
Great episode I learnt a lot on how to sand
Awesome job sanding jolene
That glass windshield looks awsome.. 🤗🏆
Keep up the fantastic work
Thanks Chad for showing us all how to do it for our self
Making dust is always satisfying
Thank you for showing us your way of doing it. It helps all of us who don't do this for a living how to make our effort count.
Well I've been watching for some time. I watched you do bodywork on the other side, jolene's car, and a couple others. it was essentially the same thing so I left the video playing in the background so I could listen and went and did other things. Body work is time consuming and repetitive, but I still want to support you so that's why I let it play. Thanks Chad and Jolene can't wait to see how this truck turns out when you get it all one color. Can't wait to see what's next on Jolene's car too.
Enjoy your channel, thanks for sharing your talent and adventures.
That makes perfect sanding sense.
Don't sweat the negative commenters. People will always try to tear down what they cannot achieve! Everyday, the truck looks more impressive. It'll certainly turn heads and bring smiles wherever it goes.
Looking forward to see it completed!
Nothing better than watching a pro do his thang. 👌😎✌
That pnumatic DA works really well.
Sanding is a art in it's self. It's a rough job but better you than me. Great job everyone
Just subscribed. I am a novice at body work so watching and listening to your instruction is helping and inspiring me to work on a 56 Mercury convertible. You are a very good teacher!
I have looked over videos of you over the last 9 years and I will say you are the real deal. Thank you and thank you for keeping us entertained. Enjoying from Valdez, Alaska
I'm really addicted to this team
Hats off to Jolene. Can't be easy with an expert looking over her shoulder. Well done.
Well you never know. Jolene just might have the magic touch with that grinder just as she does with the camera
You make it look so easy!
I wished someone would have showed or rather explained the flood to me years ago,it sure would have saved me a lot of time spent on applying and sanding and applying and sanding and,you get what Im sayin,I was told put it on thin and keep adding,,fuckers,,lol, little late now but at least I can pass your information down to my grand kids,Thanks for all you do Chad, and thank you as well Jolene
One step closer to a one of a kind piece of art
Nice sanding session. Thanks for explaining what happens when you try and touch up low spots and sand the already flat parts of the "ocean". Good way of explaining it. Thanks Chad.
Another great video thanks for your time guys
Dale Chad que está quedando muy lindo un saludo desde Argentina
Chad, Jolene, I love the working relationship that you both have between each other. I lost my wife in 1996, although I am a motorcycle dude we both made a great team. Keep it up brother you're awesome.
Love the show...Great ideas and decisions taking place. What's Jolene look like today? It's funny. It's as if you are talking about the weather. I think some men wait in anticipation to hear you describe your partner and associate in life. Today, Jolene is ....Silence. Men await the description hanging off of every word. Jolene, the woman who launched a thousand smiles. Ha-ha. Chad, you are a card...A Joker.
The tool Jolene used is a bit harder to handle, much prefer the palm sander. Maybe add a handle to the grinder style tool?
Looking good!
Looking great thank you for sharing!
great work, awesome project . one of a kind
Really interesting and helpfull videos, keep up the good work
Thank you for selflessly sharing your knowledge with the world!!! You are a true Brother in Automobilia! Thumbs up!
Another great video. It is appreciated when you show the hard work that goes into a build. Not lime the other shows that show basically none of the real work put in. I love watching and learning. Rather than before and after.
Sanding! My favorite part!
It's amazing how great y'all work together
👍🏻Thanks for all the hard work!!!!
just keep doing what you do, never mind the critics these days. You are showing us the way you do things and as you say "There many ways to skin a cat" I enjoy watching your both, so keep on rocking it!
this thing looks awesome!
Love the progress
having the correct tools makes the job much easier.
Keep up the good work enjoying watching from Sydney
Loving the addition of a race car.
Great teamwork 👍
Looking good, keep up the great work
Another day of sanding, it has to be done. I watch every show. Keep it up Chad, amazing work.
Looks amazing!
Moving along smartly, looking good.
Thank you Chad and Jolene for these educational videos.
I do love to watch these videos to see how you go about fixing & building these vehicles. Maybe one day I will get to build myself a ratrod or hotrod. Then I can come back & review these videos on tips on how to fix problems you run into on a build.
It's satisfying to see you get closer to the finishing line. Not sleeping at all.GBY & the family.
Chad and Jolene will be working hard again today on the the FORD-O-Merc. Yesterday was very interesting in showing us the work needed to reset the windshield and pillars on the Race car. Chad is seriously considering using the Hupmobile chassis for the build - good idea. Keep on going strong.

Awesome job as always Chad!!🤘🤘🤘
Lots of sanding for sure. But a lot of hard work is required to do any task. I drained the water out of the compressors every night at our shop. Moisture is a killer on your air tools and will screw up a paint job quickly..... Love how the trukcar is coming along.
looks like the body is really getting smoothed out!
keep up the good work looks awesome
Great example of what teamwork is all about. Good job!
This truck is turning out amazing I love it!!
Keep up the good work I enjoy the show
i cant wait to see this finished , i watch every day , im still learning new or different techniques after 40 odd years of working on custom cars
Cant wait to see this cabover finished..
Great work on body work tutorials Chad. I personally think sanding is very relaxing. It is like sculpting.
Truly amazing what you get done in real time!!
LOVE IT ALL, FROM THE GROUND UP
Thank-you power sander! I worked on trucks for most of my body career, this 8 inch sander is the money maker.
A shaper would be a huge help as well.
Nice work
I like that chop job!
There is always a reason to do thingd right ! If you aren't going to do it right then, is there any sence of doing the job ? Thats like using old sandpaper to do the job or really cheap sandpaper which, we know doesn't work. I think you may have just been making a statement but, there are a lot of first timers watching so you don't want them to take on that opinion do you ? I think that you are trying hard to make sure that they get the correct ways of doing things. There is always more that one way to do stuff. I really like the racecar. I'm also a big fan of the electric tools now that they have them . Air tools seam to have lots of power if you have a compressor that can put it out ! Keep up the good work !
Hey brother enjoy the videos !!! You and Jolene are an awesome team !!! But I haven't been able to find the finished truck !!!! I have attempted to search for it but to no avail !!!! You are truly a one of a kind artist !!!! Thank you for sharing your individuality and skills with everyone !!! I have always wanted to live in nova Scotia !!!! I would enjoy a video of the final finished truck could you please tell me how to find it !!! Thanks !!! Robert from lucedale Mississippi
Sanding is a hard job you make it look easy, keep up the good work !
Neat to see things take shape and smooth out as the sanding process unfolds. That's where the magic really happens. Thank you Jolene and Chad for sharing your artistry with us.
Sanding away and it needs its it. Getting closer to paint, shiny black or silver and dark sky blue... Either way should look good on it, race car and bike. Great job at the Hiltz Co. today.
jumping from project to project helps to remove all the "taking forever" feeling. great episode!
Keeps things interesting and fun.
you can watch metal works classics on youtube . and they fill out a car the same way you do..you are one step closer nice work chad and jolene...
Awesome job
Car is looking amazing . Good work
Another day of watching the most truthfull car show there is! Thank you very much.
Looking cool, and this is just a thought, you should chop the top on this! Would give it a much cooler look! I understand it's a lot of work though. But since you went this far!?!?...... 😎👍
Time to start sanding. Loads of fun for all.
lots of sanding, it's nice to see Jolene showing her skills too ,great teamwork again, think it's motivating to a lot of people ,thanks for sharing

Love the way Chad does things outside the box but everything comes together perfectly. Chad and Jolene keep up the great work.
I love it when a plan comes together.
