  • Bond (Timothy Dalton) and Pam Bouvier (Carrie Lowell) square up to Sanchez’s men in the Barrelhead bar in LICENCE TO KILL (1989). “I portrayed Pam as gritty and tough,” said Lowell. “When Bond meets her at the bar, she’s wearing a black leather vest and carrying a sawn-off shotgun. She’s flinging men over her shoulder and smashing bottles on their heads.”

      He, Robert Davi and earlier
      Bond villain actor Michael Gothard reunited with director John Glen (after he replaced the first director George P. Cosmatos) in the 1992 film *"Christopher Columbus: The Discovery".*
      Timothy Dalton was to star
      as Columbus, but due to various problems, he along with
      Isabella Rossalini (who was to
      play Queen Isabella I) abandoned ship and were then replaced by Georges Corraface & Rachel Ward.

      Dude this scene was f’ing terrible- I wouldn’t be inclined to watch the entire film let alone rate it high in a 20 odd series franchise. Dalton looks afraid and uneasy, his hair is cr*p, he clearly cannot fight- relied on a woman’s help- a guy attacked him with a fish for Christ’s sake and he swung on a makeshift chandelier. Naff as owt. Have a word with yourself. James Bond has some campassed and corny corners in its history- but this was after the silly 60’s and disco eyebrow era. He’s supposed to be a dangerous spy. He bled from a bar brawl- that was somehow started and ended by shotgun blasts. What awful nonsense. Craig is the only thing close to portraying a realistic physical threat- this was simply embarrassing. Yeah, only a film. Only books. Arguably *meant* to be camp and ridiculous. Still utter cringe. You’re wrong. You hear me?! Yow rowwwwng!!

    • @LexingtonDeville984
      @LexingtonDeville984 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Dr. 23 Hate to kill your buzz, but Bond isn’t meant to be a short-arse blonde, mate. Don’t get me wrong - Craig is a good Bond, but he’s become played out and looked utterly disinterested in Spectre. And at least Dalton’s Bond bled - Did Connery and Moore bleed after fights during their tenures? Didn’t think so.

      He looks far too good and attractive. In the books all villians and henchman are ugly, unattractive and/or disformed.
      Goldfinger, Jaws, Tee-Hee or Le Chiffre in the movies are typicall Flemming villains. The ugliness of the evil in contrary to Bonds ultimate style and attractiveness is a very important element in the books. As log as they're fictional, of course.
      -
      Dario was horrible and evil and I'm glad he got pulverized... but he was darkly sexy, graceful and had a weird "WEST SIDE STORY" vibe... like one of the Sharks decided to go full dark and evil.
      -
      I like to "pair" him with another dark and sexy psycho Bond villain, Xenia Onnatopp. I also like to think of him as Sanchez's secret "boy toy" (like Lupe is Sanchez's 'beard').

      The waitress is a Mexican actress named Edna Wolkan who called herself "bond girl" although I never know that she was awarded that distinction. When a TV reporter asked her what her role was, she, very sure of herself, replied: "She is a very flirtatious waitress who wears shorts and asks her what is going to take James Bond" the reporter asks: and what else? ... she replied the same: "she's a waitress ..."

    Ironic that a movie with an actor called Dalton has a scene with a very 'Roadhouse' feel to it with the absurd nature of the fight. A guy using a massive swordfish as a weapon, the staff just carrying on like it's a normal evening bar brawl, even the sound effects of the punches. I almost expected Wade Garrett to pop out of the toilets and start kicking.

    IMO, Dalton was an excellent Bond, but he never really got a good movie to show it with. The Living Daylights was decent but not classic, and LTK's best moments were actually when Q came along to have his biggest and best role of the series. That said, this one had some good moments and characters, and this bar scene, though the fight choreography is badly dated by modern standards, showcased some of them.
