I was one of the first customers to own a Lollar CC for the tele years and years ago. Dropped it in a USA custom tele and then bought more for other custom guitars. This is the best pickup period if you what that clear as bell tone that only the CC can achieve. The clarity and jazz tones are unbelievable.
I think Ted Greene's Modern Chord Progressions is a fantastic book for getting a good chordal vocabulary. As far as Jazz is concerned you just have to get into it and do a lot of listening. Good luck , thanks for checking it out.
Tim, per your excellent demo of Lollar CC pickups, I put a Lollar CC in the neck position of my Fender Road Worn and it make a good sound guitar into a great sounding guitar. I also put a Lollar J Street in the bridge position to compliment the Lollar CC. What a great pairing of pickups. Thanks for input and demos. Keep em coming. Rich
Thanks to your great videos, I went ahead and bought a Tele on eBay that happened to have already installed a set of Lollar Vintage T pickups. Can't wait to play it through my Blues DeVille!
......I was looking for info about the CC. pickup.....and found your video Great demo, great playing, great taste, sublime...really hepfull and inspirational.....Thank you¡¡¡
Thanks Jazzzbox, I use D'Addario 11-49 on this one and 12-52 on my "jazz setup" (video coming soon) In a week or so I'll post a new vid of my Jazz tele with 3 Charlies, Neck, middle and the neck Bridge CC. Stay tunned Tim
These Charlie Christian Pickup reviews really knocked me out, as does your playing. The jump blues piece on vid #2 (dirty) was killer. It appeared you were having a good time with that :-) I love the sound of my Nocaster, but it's a bit thin and much lower output than my LPs and ES-335. I just ordered a matched set from Lollar and am looking forward to adding some girth and higher output.
this is one of the most excellent demos i've seen. thank you tim. this kind of sounds like lenny breau's kind of sound which is something i keep in mind.
Hey manGreat video - I just bought a Suhr tele and was not impressed with the humbucker neck pup, and ordered a lollar Cc for the neck - it makes it sound just like my 47 L7! Greatly appreciate your fine playing and info - I restored a 62 Gretsch duo jet with lollars and was not sorry. He is a great guy, and local to me, and he loves 335s!bestStephen Kimberley
Excellent demo, this answers a lot of questions. But, like many other great players--George Benson, Larry Carlton, and Robben Ford come to mind--Tim Lerch makes every guitar sound rich and authentic. Still, I'm going to get one of these pickups for my Tele.
Hi Matty, I use that very combination and it works well for me. the CC is very warm so I keep it down flush with the guard so it balances better with the bridge. This also make the pup seem a but less bass heavy The BS is a bridge pup that will mate well with the CC, you can check my 3Charlie video to hear that. As far as pots go I use the 250K with no special cap changes etc. So much of this is subjective so I'm sorry I can't be more definitive. Hope you get it how you like it. Tim
Ed played thru a solid state amp, a Roland Cube, so his tone is a bit darker and less, well tubey. He also used a Humbucker in his later recordings (in the neck position). Although I saw some youtube videos were he still had a single coil and I prefer that tone. Ed is great!!! no question about it.
Has anyone compared this Lollar CC to a Porter 9T? I am wanting to put one of these in my G&L ASAT Classic Alnico. I am going to keep the same bridge pickup for now. Tim thanks for your time making this video.
Oh man I'm on the verge of going for a 2017 Limited Edition American Pro Pine Telecaster fitted with this pickup - it sounds sweet when you play on it, I should think it would work great for swing jazz and Chicago blues - the middle position too
If you can find one of the real old cubes, the orange ones, that's what Ed used. I think they sound fantastic for a darker jazz tone with a bit of compression, I frequently play thru the current one and they are ok. I like the Cube 30 on the blackface model at lower volumes but at louder volumes they get thin. If you can find an old orange one snag it!
I don't think it would be much different since the thinline isn't hollow behind the pickup. only around the sides. So the player has a bit of a different feel but the listener doesn't perceive a difference. Try it and let me know what you think.
Sweet tone..nice playing. I have no experience with those types of pickups(I understand they use huge 38 gauge wire)but it sounds like it has some alnico 2 sponginess but with more punch than they might have with the typical 42/43 gauge wire.
I love how If I shut off the sound, I can still tell what you're playing from your facial expressions... Thanks for playing the damn thing and letting us hear it. I've been watching pickup review vids where they just talk about the construction and don't even let you hear it. What the F@*%... A little academic for me...
hey Tim. sounds great. this video inspired me to get a Lollar CC in my Nash tele. but the guitar came with a 250K pot that seems to be to dark for the CC. i ordered a 500k but am worried that may be too bright for the bridge PU (Lollar 52...BRIGHT). have you had any issues with this? what pots do you use? any recommended caps or anything to match the CC with the tele bridge? thanks!
Thank you for the demo. Sounds great! I've been thinking of putting them in my artcore "jazz box". Any chance you can put up a video of some Charlie Christian humbucker routes in action? I would appreciate it very much.
LOVE the facial expression at @1:20 haha! By the way, would you recommend me buying this neck pickup or an Underwound Alnico P90 for my gibson SG-style Lentz guitar? Help much appreciated - not quite sure what the wood of the body is, though i think it is mahogany. Rosewood fingerboard.
Charlie Christian pick ups have too much stuff you have to do the guitar it-’s like you got a put like 3-4 holes in it? and do you have to rout that to a different size than the regular pick up it looks bigger than a regular tele pick up. And what about the hum? and what is best way to get rid of that hum?
Tim, I have seen most of your videos and you are really a very gifted guitarist. After hearing this demo I just purchased the pickup and will install it in my HexaVariax. I think blending the CC with a little acoustic will sound great. What pot and capacitor values are you using?
AWESOME TONE! What deluxe reverb amp are you using, the newer re-issue or an older handwired version. I have to say you can't get any better tone than that. I am about to buy some pickups for my tele and looks like I want that Charlie Christian in the neck and his 52 in the bridge. Thanks for your video's!!!!!
thanks for your great videos. You're doing a great job! I love the Lollar CC Telly-Pickup, it's the best I ever had. But to my experience it is much heavier than a standard Telecaster Neck Pickup. After the installation my guitar is 8,16 lbs, which is not to my liking. What is your experience with the weight of that Pickup?
Hi Tim - great demo. I noticed you did demos for Jason Lollar - there are Special T and CC mp3s on his website. My fav guitar is custom Tele (headless, Klein-shaped, w/ set neck) with Special Ts. I was toying with the idea of swapping neck one for CC. Do you think it is worth the trouble? How would you compare Special T with CC for clean jazz playing?
Hi Tim, I've been thinking about putting a CC pickup in my Baja Tele but I've heard that they can overpower the bridge pickup. If I did put a CC in would I have to replace the bridge pickup as well?
Probably, baja's neck p.u. isn't bad, but bridge p.u. is too weak , I changed both and put lollars: Clasic on neck and special T on bridge. Best sound ever!
Excellent playing and review Tim! I wish I could ..."jazzify" my playing and use licks like yours... Any advice about that? Also, what amp do you use for this video and how do you record it? Thanks in advance, Elias (Greece)
So, here I am 12 years later… I’ve certainly improved as a guitar player, and you are still the same in this video (obviously), yet, you are still nauseatingly good…
WIll a p-90 route fit this Lollar CC Pickup? Cant seem to find an answer to this. Trying to find useful Tele pickup to match with a a broadcaster/nocaster bridge.
One of the best, most balanced demos of a pickup I've heard in ages.
Great pickup. I added one to my pinecaster and it screams jazz.

Beautiful tone!!! 🎶🎶🎶
We're all looking for that perfect pickup and this comes very close. Nice clear, warm vid too.
This video, has just completely got me chasing a CC from Lollar, far out man, that sounds stunning.
Thanks to your great videos, I went ahead and bought a Tele on eBay that happened to have already installed a set of Lollar Vintage T pickups. Can't wait to play it through my Blues DeVille!
Now this is how pickup demos should be done. High five, Tim Lerch!
Superb sound and amazing subtle playing ! Great musician here.
Hi Tim,
Thanks: your tone is absolutely beautiful.
Ya sold me! Buying right now!
I love this Tele sound!!!
Jazz and Blues... and I think rock'n'roll also!!
CC Lollar sounds great!!
the tele is such a great jazz guitar. None of that mud like those semi-hollow Gibsons. Great video and great playing!
......I was looking for info about the CC. pickup.....and found your video

what a great touch and vibrato you have!

@TheRealErob I'd say that they are in the realm of the P90 but with a much smoother mid range, you might say they are a high fidelity P90.
Thanks for posting that. Great playing. You know that is the tone I love the most. I should get one of those Lollar Charlie Christians for my Tele.
My man, you have got some boss chops.
Man you play amazing, have an amazing guitar and look and sound like Jeff Bridges...
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion man.

Wow, that sounds great! You are an AWESOME guitar player!
My... you're amazing... Incredible blues feeling!
Thanks, I am inspired by Ed's voicings and touch.

Tim thanks for your time making this video.
Tim, that was a great review, thank you very much!
So in love with that sound.
I know what I'm buying before the summer is out.

@hanselprusio I play all three positions on this video so if you watch it all the way through you'll hear neck, neck/middle and bridge.
I just saw this video 。。.what a lovely sound ! Ten years later, are you all right? Thank you for sharing
It also helps the sound of these pickups if you've mastered the guitar as you have!
@925Bluesman it's a re issue on this one. Glad you like it.
@Detman101 that was exactly the answer i was looking for. thanks!
s long as the CC isnt too close to the strings it can balance fine. I have mine flush with the pickgaurd
you play beautifully
I think you should be able to but you'll probably have to do some routing and have the pick guard cut to fit.
great playing!

Ha. I think it's because Tim's looking at his image and not the camera. Great video, all the same!
love the Big Lebowskii!
@ruiner54 I use a Body Mount but it's a pain to get it just right.. most use pickgaurd mount since its so much more convenient.
yeah me and my funny faces. probably should go with the P90 for an SG although this CC would probably sound fantastic.
I want to know how many of these pickups Tim sold with this vid over the years!
How do you like the HB sized CC in the neck position?
Nice demo thank you.
Thats the one. Just a regular deluxe Rev Re-issue.
I love how If I shut off the sound, I can still tell what you're playing from your facial expressions... Thanks for playing the damn thing and letting us hear it. I've been watching pickup review vids where they just talk about the construction and don't even let you hear it. What the F@*%... A little academic for me...

Quick question, does that fit the new telecaster ultra?
It needs to be routed with a P90 size route regardless of which telecaster you put into
Thank you for the demo. Sounds great! I've been thinking of putting them in my artcore "jazz box". Any chance you can put up a video of some Charlie Christian humbucker routes in action? I would appreciate it very much.
Thats a cool pickup man, nice playing you remind me of Ted Greene
LOVE the facial expression at @1:20 haha! By the way, would you recommend me buying this neck pickup or an Underwound Alnico P90 for my gibson SG-style Lentz guitar? Help much appreciated - not quite sure what the wood of the body is, though i think it is mahogany. Rosewood fingerboard.

hmmm, I don't have that problem at all. are the E and B louder or softer? what gauges do you use? is the G wound or unwound?

yes, a route similar to a P90
thanks for your great videos.
It probably add a few ounces. But nothing too drastic. .
🙏
Lollar pickups or not, you've got some great tone in your fingers. (But the PUs sound nice too . . .)
Another great demo, love all your videos. I'm sold on the CC...
I notice you are partial to teles - do you prefer 7.5" or 9.5" necks?
great demo and superb playing man. Btw, are these flatwounds?
@gittahfiend Deluxe Reverb reissue
Hi Tim - great demo. I noticed you did demos for Jason Lollar - there are Special T and CC mp3s on his website. My fav guitar is custom Tele (headless, Klein-shaped, w/ set neck) with Special Ts. Unbelievable sound and Great play! Congratulations! What amp are you using in this demo?
@Asadsaify2 if its routed to fit a p90 and you have a pickguard
Does this pickup require routing or pickguard modification if it were put into the body of a 69 thinline tele?
does this pickup require pickguard modification or routing
if it were put into the body of a thinline?
Do you have to route out Tele neck pickup cavities to install this?
wicked sound. hey, were you in the Big Lebowski? :)
Hi Tim
What the model pickup from Charlie Christian pick you have on the guitar beautiful tone
These pickups are made by Lollar
What number of capacitor use with this pickup . Thank you
Sorry I don’t know
hi tim.
how do would you compare this pup to a johnny smith mini?
Ahh alright! Just making sure! haha.
do you like telecasters?
Can you install this into a Fender Stratocaster in any position?
Hi Tim, I've been thinking about putting a CC pickup in my Baja Tele but I've heard that they can overpower the bridge pickup. If I did put a CC in would I have to replace the bridge pickup as well?
Probably, baja's neck p.u. isn't bad, but bridge p.u. is too weak , I changed both and put lollars: Clasic on neck and special T on bridge. Best sound ever!
what strings do you use
Excellent playing and review Tim!
I wish I could ..."jazzify" my playing and use licks like yours...
Any advice about that?
Also, what amp do you use for this video and how do you record it?
Thanks in advance,
Elias (Greece)
Hello. Which deluxe reverb u'r playing on? This one? -> Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Valve Amp Combo, 22 W, 2 channels, 1x 12" speaker. Weight: 22kg, that costs arround 1200euro?
anybody know how this would hold up under fuzz?
how does it do with mid to high gain?
This guy is nauseatingly good .... (smile)-
So, here I am 12 years later… I’ve certainly improved as a guitar player, and you are still the same in this video (obviously), yet, you are still nauseatingly good…
What kind of strings are you using? Are they round or flat?
I found the answer in the comments. They are 11 round wound
Great job Tim;
Wonder why Ted Greene comes to mind (as he scratches his head) ?
WIll a p-90 route fit this Lollar CC Pickup? Cant seem to find an answer to this. Trying to find useful Tele pickup to match with a a broadcaster/nocaster bridge.
Pre-War Strumming 2:02 will answer this
I have a new website,
timlerch.com
there is a new dvd of my trio and you can hear the Lollar CC in action
What bridge pickup are you using with this?
