    Wow - this is really convincing and incredible work. As someone who makes guitars with hand tools, people often assume that this means that I am anti-CNC, but it's not the case at all. I really respect the skill and technology used here, as well as the great results.
    I saw someone mentioned the lack of bridge and tailpiece holes in a comment. They're not missing at all, but should be done once the neck is in place for perfect intonation. Also, not putting in the holes means that one can choose later whether or not to have a wraparound bridge or a tailpiece/bridge combo.

      * I'm just another person watching the video...
      But I'm here because I'm in the process of piecing together a CNC router/mill and coincidently, making an electric guitar with it is one of the things I want to do!
      This guy really knows his stuff and made a great LP. I'd be looking to make a much simpler one. I'm thinking a neck-through telecaster.

    • @TomboLP

      naycnay Oooops! Sorry about the mixup. Yeah, I agree that this guy really knows what he's doing. Very impressive!

      Floyd Rose has a newer top mount Whammy bar for Les Paul's, SG's, and other guitars with a tune-o-matic bridge. There's only one style LP where the Tune o Matic schematics do not line up. You can still use it with minor routing. The only holes that are needed are for the locking neck.
      I don't know exactly how long ago they came out but the top mount design saves a lot of router idiots who think they can get everything perfect within a mil. for a regular Floyd to fit and ruin a guitar where some run into the tens of thousands of dollars. I Know they can go a lot higher but you get my point. You can get them now for $225.00-$275.00 depending on be the color.
      You can also use them on other guitars be that you do not want to run the risk ruining the guitar where or marring the world. Plus they are made in Germany still like the original.
      I love what CNC Machine's can do. It is truly amazing. But if you want to mass produce guitar's you need at least 6 beds. A real CAD operator and a host of other expsive tools.

    Great video. When you touch off the bottom of the round-over bit, I imagine that you make contact with the bearing shaft (the part of the bit that formerly held the bearing). This shaft sticks out below the half round carbide cutter. So the z-position is now not in the right spot -- the bit will need to travel on a lower plane so that the round part of the bit is cutting at the right height. How do you adjust for that?

    Why did you do a pocket around the outside of the guitar body instead of a external profile? The pocket required 2x the passes that a profile would need and therefore took twice as long...

    • @LagunaTools
      @LagunaTools  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes with a specific program, you can run windows on a mac.

    • @zippydachimp7113
      @zippydachimp7113 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Vectric Aspire he uses for the CAM portion is only Windows compatible. So you run it in VMware fusion or Parallels. Rhino which is the CAD portion is available in MAC. You can always run everything straight on Windows and not have the MAC, but lots of folks run this hybrid Mac/Win setup.

    Router Bob, can the neck be run on the IQ long bed with a 4th axis or do you need to go with the Swift to make the whole guitar on one machine ?

    • @LagunaTools

      With the longer bed it is possibly quite possible, feel free to speak to one of our CNC specialist. Call us 800.234.1976 to discuss more. Thank you for your interest.

    Great and useful video! Lots of stuff here. One thing: doing an angled surface with a flat end mill results in rounded inner corners. I guess it's acceptable because of the low angle value and because, of course, the neck will be rounded too and this avoids interference. Right?

What model of cutter is the Vortex you use for the deep pockets and final edge passes? they look like they give a good chip and finish. What is your feed rate when using these Vortex tools? Many thanks, Alan.
