“Life was dulled, then it became normal but you thought you were just getting older” THIS IS ME 😭 i thought it was COVID too! I’m so happy you shared your story! I’ve had lack of interest in a lot of ppl in my life and i genuinely thought it was just “life”
I’ve had the implant for 4 years my provider told me it was good for 5 years. I went through major depression that I couldn’t understand. I was negative stressed out and over all overwhelmed with the littlest things. I never had acne growing up and the implant gave me adult acne. You making this video have me a huge sense of relief! I feel like nobody would hear my out and I couldn’t talk about why I was depressed because I didn’t even know myself! Felt so alone for so long. This was my first birth control, definitely going to get it taken out now and detox my body. Thank you so much for making this video and putting it out there that all these hormones we put into our body is not always safe ❤️
Iv had it to 6 years straight. My 10 year relationship went to shit!! I was never happy always having mood swing. I would lash out then be sad happy then depressed again and had no reason. I leave the relationship thinking that’s why I wasn’t happy… Nope it wasn’t him it was meeee!!! Now it’s too late he has moved on and got a girl pregnant. I still have it in me I’m going to take it out. Soooo sad that I never researched side affects. So sad!!!!! I feel bipolar . I’m a single mom and I’m trying to do my best. Before the implant I was sooo happy artistic. People loved being around me. Can’t wait to be my self again
I feel like there’s definitely a movement of girls getting off birth control for these exact reasons. I’ve been getting the shot for about 3 years. I haven’t had my period in about 2 years! I just decided to stop getting it and I cannot wait to get my period back!
Agreed. Anecdotal but I experienced so many side-effects from birth control. Doctors never told me about the long term ones that happen after withdrawal. But gaslighted me so much. My periods are very regular now. I also take Vitamin D now.
@@BeTheLight242 it honestly came back a lot sooner than I thought, but to be fair my before I went on Depo, my periods were very regular. I think it came back maybe about 4-5 months after getting off. Good luck!
@@jasminexiong716 thank you for responding! I hope mine comes back quickly too. I’ve been taking magnesium, zinc, and other vitamins hoping to get things regulated as quick as possible!
I got my nexpoanon implant out almost 2 weeks ago. I've been on birth control since I was 12 and I'm almost 29 now. Aside from being off to have my kids but even within this short period of time, I can tell a difference. I feel mental clarity, my mood swings are not as bad, I'm happier and finally starting to feel like my old self. I wish I did this sooner. I'm excited to see the changes as time progresses. Thank you for the video to know I wasn't the only one who felt this way!
My doctor advised me to get my nexplanon removed. I finally have! I feel different, some how. But not sure how yet. I have been taking birthcontrol since 16 or 17. Thought it was right, I do feel it WAS except maybe I didn't see how much was caused by it and my detachment to my woman hood alone. Cheers to detoxing for whoever else is fresh off birthcontrol. And good luck to all!
I just got mine removed 6 days ago! IM literally so relieved and cannot wait to just feel normal again.. and like a WOMAN again!! Never thought id be so excited to have a period again... I haven't had one in literally a year..... Did anyone else have severe sharp pain in their lower abdomen/ gut area?? About 4 months ago I literally ended up going to the hospital and getting a CT scan because I thought something was severely wrong with me... the doctors never figured out what it was. The lady who removed my implant said the nexplanon 100% could've caused that pain in my ovaries ..... ANYONE ELSE ???? please help me feel validated in the pain I was experiencing !!
Me too! I thought it was something serious until it passed on but kept coming back. I’m waiting for my appointment to get it removed. I haven’t had a period in almost a year in a half at this point.
Me too! been on it for 2 months and not to mention I’ve been spotting the entire time since getting it and one long period with blood clots.. horrible strong period for 2 weeks .. I feel like this was the worst decision I’ve made
Ive been going through it detoxing a month off it and I still have severe anxiety, bad moments, hyper emotions , manic episodes when drinking , and fragile days of crying for nothing. I also have gut issues which caused me sibo and to be hospitalized . I like the comfort of not being pregnant or having clear skin on birth control but it deteriorated my mental health horribly. Thanks for sharing Vivian
been on the implant almost 6 months now and getting it taken out in a few months, it definately has changed me so much in a negative way. Can't waittt to have it out!!!!!
I’ve been off birth control for about 2 years after having the implant removed. I had exactly these symptoms. I was so depressed and angry for no reason. I didn’t want to see anyone or speak to people. It was bizarre. I had no idea that the implant was the reason, until someone suggested it. Then I did some research and found so many women had the same symptoms. I’ll never put anything hormone related into my body ever again.
Hey Vivian, Unfortunately I didn't get off the pill until I had a stroke like about a year ago today (2/19/21). All the Doctors and Nurses said to me, "Oh the pill may have caused the Stroke" because I was so young to have the Stroke. I never knew taking a pill situation may have caused a Stroke. I've taken the pill since I was 18 or 19 and I just turned 37 years old. I do recommend going completely off of birth control in general. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS I DID.
Thank you so much for making this video. It completely solidified my decision to get it removed. My hormones and emotions are all over the place. Also I put on 70lbs within my first year with the implant. I haven’t been able to lose the weight over the past two years. But I’m getting it removed hopefully in a couple days.
@@shakeyahyoungblood6324 feeling a little like myself again. I don’t feel like I’m in a mental fog anymore. The weight is coming off. 12 lbs in 1.5 months. I haven’t gotten my period yet. I’m not as emotional. I’m not as tired. Far less irritable. I feel good again. I’m not in a constant cycle of forcing myself out of bed to get things done or move around. It’s hard to put into words but I feel human again. I’ll try to remember to update in a few months once I start getting back to myself.
@@Queen82995 I completely understand. I feel like I’m doing things just to keep myself busy, sometimes have days were I felt sad in my head but not truly sad, unsure of what I want to do and just kind of lost. I’ve been off birth control for two months and just have started feeling just like something is off mentally
@@shakeyahyoungblood6324 you just have to give yourself time to get back to normal especially if you’ve been on birth control for a while. Maybe try looking up a natural birth control detox. I hope you start feeling like yourself soon!
I'm glad it's working out for you and hope you continue to feel better. I've had mine for 2yrs and it gets removed in 2 days. I've been so anxious about how my body will react to getting it removed and the process of my body getting back to normal.
I just got mine out yesterday and my removal was very similar to yours. I’ve seen so many videos of girls having a smooth experience, so now I don’t feel so alone
So courageous of you to share this personal journey to help other women! More importantly, you’re educating and strengthening women with your words!! Thanks, Viv, and thank Brendan for being super supportive of you too!!!
I also got off birth control a year ago and it was the best decision ever. Birth control caused me to have horrible acne, depression and anxiety. When I decided to get off of it, I felt more myself again and my skin cleared up. I feel like birth control isn't really great for the body and although it protects you from getting pregnant, I don't think it is worth it.
I got the nexplanon after having issues with an IUD. I’ve never had such severe anxiety and depression in my life, I was seriously considering going the therapy and starting on meds, something I’ve never done, because it was getting so bad. I tried to push though, but I was not having sex at the time, so ended getting it out after leas than a year because I couldn’t handle it. I’ve always been a fairly level headed person. Although I have experienced depression in the past, this was next level and I also had crazy mood swings. I also felt very disconnected from life while on birth control (not just nexplanon), lost interest in everything, and felt disconnected from friends and family. As soon as I got it out I noticed a difference in my mood and I started to be happy again. I was off birth control completely for 8 months, but unfortunately had to go back on the pill because my periods were getting really bad again, I started missing work, and I have started having sex again and I’m too paranoid of getting pregnant to not be on it. I’m really scared that I’m going to have bad side effects again, I’m already breaking out a lot after only 2 weeks, my hair is more brittle, and can feel myself starting to slip into depression again. We’ll see what happens, but I’m scared
How are you doing now? I’m still having days of depression and feeling lost or confused. Not suicidal but think of things that are sad. It’s so odd bc this is not me 🤨
@@shakeyahyoungblood6324 I ended up getting off of that pill because it made me crazy. I had much bad mood swings I had to leave work because I’d go from feeling like I would run a mile, to having an anxiety attack, to being so mad I was about to punch my co-worker in the face, all in about an hour. I told my doctor about it and she recommended changing my pill and going to therapy, thank god it was over the phone because I was so angry that she recommended therapy that if we were in person I probably would have screamed at her and been banned from the office. That’s how crazy the first pill made me. I’m now almost done my second pack of a new pill and although I’m not as erratic, I am still angrier than I have been in the past, I am vengeful, and overall not as nice of a person. Then I’m also having period issues 🤦🏼♀️ I truly hate being on birth control and can’t wait until I can get a hysterectomy
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have been wanting to take mine out because of similar reasons, but also questioned whether it was the birth control or just me. This video and comments made me feel validated. Can't wait to take mine out!
Me too girl I had nexplanon for 3 years and I always felt horrible and gained around 35 pounds so now I’m off of it and not in any birth control and I feel great my periods are worse but over all my mind feels better but I still can’t loose the weight
I've been on the pill since I was 13 for period/ hormone-related reasons, too. I've never had a huge issue until this past year when my regular prescription was experiencing a shortage, so I was put on a generic, which I was told was exactly the same. It can't be. My mood swings are a scary variety of anger, deep depression, and anxiety. I've never felt this way before. The most scary feeling is when I am in a normal state of mind, and all of a sudden an overwhelming feeling of helplessness comes over me. This is definitely not me- I so feel your pain, Vivian. I'm looking forward to my Dr. appointment. I'm considering detoxing, as well.
I was on nexplannon for almost all of my 20s, I just turned 30 this year. I got it replaced a few weeks ago, the doctor said not to expect any side effects since my body was "used to the hormones", but I've been experiencing dizziness, headaches, appetite changes, and most importantly deep sadness and depressive episodes. I was a depressed teen so I never considered it, but its finally clicking that the depression could be so bad because of the birth control, no professional ever addressed that with me until my therapist this week. I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles, but so grateful to be reading about all of your experiences, its very much helping guide me in the decision of whether or not to remove. Any additional advice would be appreciated!
I’m not sure if you have anxiety, but mine was very bad to the point I would cry so much, constantly felt on edge, very emotional and felt mentally and physically tired. I went on SSRIs (lexapro) and my life did a complete 360. Hope you feel better girly 💗
Hi Viv, I'm currently on Nexplanon right now, and I can totally relate to so many of the side effects you have experienced. I also deal with intense mood swings, crying spells, and a more anxious/ depressed state of mine. When I experience these dips in moods, its horrible and super difficult to get out of. I can resonate with that state of feeling dull and life being less meaningful. I find myself getting irritated for something small and just making little things into a big deal. It's awful when you have no control over your emotional state. :( So thank you for making this video! love ya.
I got the implant after being on BC pills for a few years because I was tired of being depressed due to them.. then I had the implant removed after having my period for 9 months straight. I became anemic and just felt like complete crap. I feel 10000% better and like myself again after stopping every form of birth control!
Clearly every body is a different world. For me having this implant has been the best ever happened to me, my period became really irregular, which I love so much, cuz nothing I hate more than being in my period, comes around twice in a year, but before having implant I was getting horrible cramps during my period (even vomiting due to pain sometimes) and since I have the implant I get no period cramps at all! It is awesome! My hair became better, my skin became much more cleaner and better looking by itself. I got first implant for 3 years and now I put a new one! The best ever! I am like in love with it!
I feel it work’s different for people. As you have mentioned, you had irregular and painful periods so this synthetic hormone fixed that for you . But girls who had normal periods and totally good mental state , it messes up with them and make it totally miserable . So Overall i feel like this human made hormone works well for women who have periods issue ( or hormone imbalance) but works very badly for women who have regular periods and stable hormones. This is what I have responded so far from different videos and comments
as of July 11 2023 today I am officially birth control free and will be. . I have been on it since 2019 my experience was not so great but served its purpose in a way and now my hubby and I are considering on having a baby of our own now :). . are lots to look forward to in the future. I'm so happy I got mine removed I didn't want to see my birth control as well during the procedure it was painful :(. thank you for posting this video Vivian
couldn’t relate more to an experience! I took mine out yesterday due to the lack of emotion, weight gain, faux pregnancy symptoms, anxiety, lack of libido, never ending periods and so much more. I was never on BC as a teen and I was on nexplanon for 3 years from 19-22 when me and my bf started a relationship and the minute it was put in I was different, he noticed I was different and it created unnecessary issues. Negative mental side effects started manifesting into painful physical symptoms. Overall it was a nasty experience and I’m so glad women are finally talking about the repercussions of having BC in because Google and the medical research they show us will NOT tell you the truth.
It’s really so much to handle with the state of the world as well. I hope you feel better each day and thank you for sharing Viv ❤️ looking forward to seeing more of you!!
I've been off the Nuvaring for about 7 months now and I feel so much more like myself! I track my period with an app and pay closer attention to cervical mucus around the time of ovulation. I can't express enough how much better I feel. I did experience some cystic acne a couple months after getting off birth control but I've since got it under control with skincare products!
I had the worst experience with the Nexplanon, now I'm almost a year with the mini pill and it works wonders🙏🏽 the only down side is having to remember taking the pill everyday at the same time but I always have an alarm in my phone😌
I cannot wait to get my nexplanon taken out in 2 weeks!! I’ve had a horrible experience on it like many others. Bounds of depression, my eating habits have completely shifted, My mood swings are crazy, I cry randomly. then I’m like super sad one minute. Irritable. Haven’t gained any weight, it’s been the exact same for the past 2 years. very negative thoughts. then my periods have been sporadic. 3 weeks at a time, sometimes 2 weeks, it’ll stop for 2 days then come back and be on for a additional week 🙃. Definitely don’t recommend this at all
This video had very 2015 vivian vibes. dont know how to explain it, just familiar. like visiting an old friend. i was in middle school when i started watching your videos, and now im a 4th year university student. missed you and hope to see more of you this year
I took my nexplanon out 2 months ago after having it In for a year and a half because I was getting my period 2-3 times a month every month. It was such a nightmare! So glad I got it out I’m so much happier now.
I was on the pill for little over a year and I got off it. I was crying a lot more like you mentioned, and I never knew why I was crying. I always was more snappy/attitude with my bf and I'm glad he pointed it cuz I felt like I was but didn't know if I was just overthinking. I've been birth control free for like 6 months now and I feel so much better
I’ve been on the pill for about 4 years now. I got super irritable the first 3 months and then my mood felt fine. However, the past year I noticed my mental health was/is declining. Not sure if it’s due to the pandemic and external factors, but I do wonder if it could be because of the pill. I plan on talking to my doctor about this, but just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience Vivian!
@@DinahRapydz my dermatologist pushed it on me, bc I initially got on it for my acne. It definitely feels nice to not have acne as bad as I had it. Although, I wish my dermatologist wasn’t so pushy about it. I also was pretty oblivious to BC and it’s affects. I wish I came across more videos like this, so I could’ve made a more informed decision before.
Thank you Viv for sharing your experience. It really helps for girls to talk about openly about this topic. As the negative experiences are very serious and hardly talked about. I was so worried about you and also could see that your videos were much different during the last 3 years. I hope you feel so much better and have the light back in your life
Birth control destroyed my gut. The last pill I was on I couldn’t go a day without diarrhea. Then I learned birth control depletes soo many vitamins and minerals. I’m 7 months off and I’m feeling better but my skin is struggling. It’s such a daily struggle
it will get better, it takes some time for the skin to go back to normal. If you got pimples like I did ( and I never had acne) do try to apply green tea bags and avoid greasy food for a while.
I had the nexplanon implant and fortunately for me I had no issues. No period for 3 years which I loved too! I recently got mine taken out only because I'm planning to start a family soon but I can't recommend it enough compared to other types of contraception. I've also tried the pill and the injection.
Vivian I literally smiled seeing this bc it’s not talked about often! So I had this implant It’s so annoying that at one point I thought I control my period emotions and birthcontrol but no it took awhile for me to realize my period and implant does effect me. I had it for 3 years it was normal and I had it again and was on my 2nd year it was diff…It’s affected me where I ended up having 2-3 weeks period every month. Intense emotions and I believe I had depression because I started to have thoughts that I never had before. My doctor said it was “normal” but how is this normal… i was bleeding and feeling numb almost everyday. I felt like I had to take accountable for my emotions but honestly the implant really effected me. I’ve been 2 months without it and I’ve never felt more normal and feeling emotions without an intense wave of confusing feelings. Im taking a break from birthcontrol cuz man that was a rollercoaster. That’s my story but im so glad that this comment section is filled with similar stories!
I was on birth control for 4 years *pill* . My anxiety got out of control severe panic attacks , deep depression, lost a lot of hair. Low sex drive. My mood swings were horrible. Bad headaches, at first I didn’t know why I was going through all that. Then it hit me, I wasn’t my self at all. I’ve been off of it for a couple days now. I can’t wait to have everything go back to normal. I miss being my self it’s such a weird and sad feeling .
i’m going through this now. i’ve been on it for almost 3 years and my anxiety and panic attacks are the worst i can’t even be happy bc when i do it goes away in a matter of seconds.
I went through a similar experience with birth control. It caused my depression to get so bad and I had a yeast infection for two years that just wouldn’t go away and caused so much pain and made it completely impossible to even be intimate with my partner.
Im so done with the implant, I haven’t taken it out because I really don’t want to get pregnant 💀 And I can’t find any other birth control that suits me:(
Omg! This explains how I have been feeling after I got it in. I thought it was just me adjusting to being a mom! I get mine out in three weeks and I never been this excited!
I’m on my third implant now, planning to get it out for good next week. The second one I got was put behind scar tissue the first one left and the doctor couldn’t get it out!! It was terrible and I ended up having to go to a general surgeon and was put under anesthesia and everything to get that thing out of me. For my current one they put it in a different spot of my arm so praying it’s an easy removal this time 🤞
Quitting was the best decision for me too. I tried pills and the ring from 18 to 30 years old & I was only myself when I was during the placebo week. The ring made me pretty nauseous. Now that I am out of hormones I feel like I am reconnecting with myself. I won't go back to that ever again.
I heard a lot of bad experiences with that implant I was planing to get it just to see if my body can take it ..but the nurse literally call me and whisper to me to don't get it cause everyone keep coming back to the office to get it taken out 😮

I've had the nexplanon for 8 months and gained 10 lbs plus a bit of anxiety. It's crazy how Nexplanon can change your mood, body shape, mental health, and even personality within just a few months, I can't even imagine years of having it! I decided I will be taking it off as soon as I can and just be cautious because this anxious feeling I have at any given moment of the day is insane. Even though is not a lot, I can feel it and I know it's not normal.
I was on the pill for a couple years and it affected my mental health horribly. Now, I have had my hormonal IUD for 5 years and it’s been such a blessing. I used to get extremely heavy periods, become anemic, debilitating cramping, etc. now I still get regular periods but I only need to use liners. I haven’t had any effects in terms of mood/skin/gut health (I think because I’m lucky/ the iud is localized to the uterus and not systemic). Also, the peace of mind in terms of pregnancy is amazing
The Nexplanon implant is literally the devil stick. I had to get it taken out after a month. I was having severe anxiety attacks dizziness depression and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I’ll never go back to hormone birth controls ever again
im with you girl... im trying to get mine removed now.. it's now jeopardizing my health because it's making me anemic and dropping my blood pressure.. no matter how hydrated i am its always low.
I've had the implant for about 2 years. I will be removing it on the 3 yr mark January 2023. I wanted to contribute my experience and not invalidate others I loved it. I lost weight, my acne is gone, I haven't had a period in 2 years (which is a perk for me) I chose the implant bc I am bipolar 1 and I take 8 pills a day so I didn't want to keep taking extra pills just for birth control. I've only had a great experience and I plan to do it again after I remove the first one (as long as it's safe and I am able to) I am curious as to what the "Me" is like without BC tho. I've been on some form of BC since I was 11.
I'm just freaking out with so much negative experiences. I'm glad to hear that you are having a good experience. I hope be lucky as you are with thisbirthcontrol. 🙏
Thanks for this. I like hearing the positive experiences too. I just had a baby and decided to get the nexplanon yesterday. I’m hoping my experience is positive as well.
Hey girlies so I was brought back to this post and figured I should update. I got it removed in Jan 2023. Make sure if you're queasy to get an appt with a doc you are comfortable with. I got a doc who I never met and just so happens he was a bit.... eccentric...... and possibly hasnt done the removal before .... and the removal was so much more complicated and gorey than it needed to be. I almost passed out from all the digging around he did for so many minutes. Will not be getting it again just bc I do not want to go through another removal. I was left with two longer and deeper scars than need be. If you have a good doc you trust then my experience won't pertain to you and yay I'm happy for you. Now I'm on a "natural" birth control journey so I can see what it's like without any. (The one where you take your temp every morning and take ovulation tests and track your fertile cycle on an app) Peace
Just got mine removed an hr ago. So nervous though. Not wanting to get pregnant is what made me keep it in. My hair loss my mood change losing interest in everything I once loved longer periods and bad cramps. I told my Dr and he said he's never heard anyone complain about it or have any symptoms like mine. I'm gonna see how it goes for at least a month or two if I feel better ill keep it out if not I think ill go back on it.
When I had it I would have extremely heavy periods almost every day, I would have chest pains & a lot of headaches. The first time I got it I had a period for a whole year, so I went to the hospital and they said that's the implant and booted me out the door. I dealt with 3 years of constant periods and chest pains, today I got it removed. Driving home I got really dizzy and had to pull over, I had been crying randomly for no reason, been dizzy off and on, & been trying to figure out if other people had that problem
I’m currently going through body pains, chest pains, & wanting to faint. I just got my nexplanon replaced about a week ago, and now I’m here to get it out.😩
Hey guys I knw it's been long since you posted here... How have you been after removing the implant.. Am having chest pains.. Headaches.. How long did it take to get back to normal
Basically the arm implant side affect is feeling pregnant. That’s how you feel when you are actually pregnant..what a nightmare. I have the mirena iud and love it.
My mom forced me to get the implant at 14 The doctor did not wait for me to numb properly, he said "Can you feel that" while poking me and as soon as I said yes he stabbed the injector into my arm. My grandma had to hold me down. It was traumatic and stuck in my mind for a few years I bled for the first 2 years straight, except for 1 month where they put me on oral birth control to try and "fix" my cycle. During my second monthly pack of oral birth control, it stopped working suddenly and I had a very painful, heavy period for 2 weeks straight before resuming the lighter, constant period. I think during or after the 3rd year, I started getting a more regular period. I bled 6 days every few weeks, I got it replaced a year ago and this year my period is severely irregular again. Not constant bleeding anymore, but I'm bleeding for whole months with a few weeks between where I won't bleed. When I'm Not on my period is when I experience "period symptoms" especially cramping. I'm up at 2 am rn bc I woke up from painful abdominal cramping, I'm in the bathroom but that's clearly not the problem. I'm about to go take some meds for the pain and nausea. Another thing, I was diagnosed with severe depression at 13 before I started birth control, I am doing significantly better now but I still have mild depression and that might be the birth control I love the concept of the birth control implant and if I weren't in so much pain rn I wouldn't be considering taking it out TLDR: I've been on Nexplanon 4 years and the side effects have Not gone away. Irregular, elongated periods, depression, nausea, and PAIN. I didn't have pain before this implant
Many people don't know this but birth control in general can cause adverse medical symptoms in the user. I stopped using birth control after experiencing weight gain because my brain kept sending signals to my body that I'm still hungry even though I was completed stuffed with food. I lost hair and I felt nauseous most of the time. I don't recall it affecting my mood though. Aside from the symptoms, it has other adverse long term effects. I advise to do extensive research on it before using it. Advice from a "medical professional" may not be enough either. Often times they just parrot what's taught to them or are pushing the meds.
I was on depo, the every 3 month shot, and I had many similar symptoms. A wild symtpom was how it maintained my teenage average body-weight (which sounds nice, and it was at the time without realizing it) but I was not planning on staying on the shot forever. As soon as I got off it in my early 20s, my body instantly was gaining weight rapidly - and nothing I could do would stop it - until I reached a new average body weight for my adulthood age. I didn't look awful, but in my mind it was a very sudden change and it made me feel awful about myself for a while - which then I gained some depression weight on top of it. Now i'm back my regular weight, but it was hard realizing this was my new normal - it just came so fast. Also, my period did not come back for over a year. I read that women who were on this shot longer than 3 years, or older women getting on it, had a higher chance of having to wait yearsssss for their period and I didn't want that to happen - because I did want kids in a certain time frame. That was the main reason I had got off it. I was also terrified of my teenage acne coming back getting off it, without realizing i'm in a whole new stage of adulthood and I haven't had acne problems since getting off of it thankfully. But yeah - birth control defintely has a toll on certain things and it's amazing you made this honest video. 💌
Me too! I gained so much weight and I have been breaking out so much over the last two years of having it. I’m getting mine taken out this Friday and I’m excited but also nervous 😭
I’ve had my nexplanon in for 7 years and before that was on a different birth control for 3-4 years. I’m on a medication that is not safe for fetus if I got pregnant and since I was 14 when I got diagnosed and put on that medication it was decided that it was safest for me to be on BC. Im now 27 and just got my BC taken out last month and I can’t wait to let my body detox and cleanse itself and reset. My emotions are very low all the time. I feel like I’ve honestly been depressed but I’ve just been lying to myself saying I’m not. I cry almost everyday from over thinking life or a sad video on Instagram. It’s been hard and I just want to see if this will help regulate my emotions, mood and energy. It’s been a long time coming.
For me it caused hypothiroidism..which is linked to depression and anxiety, weight gain, extreme tiredness, hair loss, gut problems and even tingeling and loss of sensations on big toes of my feets. Check your thyroid with this one, guys..i used to be super healthy before nexplanon and hopefully back to normal because i ll remove it asap.
I have mine since 2019 and i have to take it off in October of this year. I really thought that i was just « growing » you know, like my personality was like that because this is life and you grow (lost interest of people, hypersensitive, dependance emotionally, scared about people who could abandoning me, mood swing, anxiety, depression, always saying to me that i was shit, etc) and even now i dont know how to feel. But I guess I’m king for relieved that I wasn’t really like that on purpose. I’m my own therapist and i tried to focus on myself (for the first time, bc i care to much about ppl) and i didn’t work like I made every night insomnia, because i can’t stop felling worried, anxious, feeling I’m shit, and… I thought that its was normal. Can’t wait to take it off and feel things again ! PS: Me personally, i always had my period, sometimes i dont have it during one months or two, but after i have it during one month, so weird. And sometimes, i have it for one week but I’m hemorrhaging.
Also I had similar experiences than you, too. I took the pill for a year, at first everything was fine, but I had a lot of anxiety after a year and when I got off of it, my mental health was really bad for half a year.
Before my implant I had very bad mood swings. Depression, sadness, crying, and anxiety and I’m hoping the implant will do the reverse effect on me and help my mood. My periods were extremely irregular before the implant, I’m hoping it will take my period away because it has always been intense (unbearable cramping, extreme bloating, uncomfortable constipation) and overwhelming when I have it. I have never been on birth control because I did not want any imbalances and have successfully not gotten pregnant until 25 (the way I have planned). But now I have my boy and my girl by 26 and I’m ready to make that step forward with trying birth control.
What a wonderful video! Thank you for being so open about your experience!! I’ve had bad experiences with bc as well and it took me almost a year to feel like myself again. Nowadays, I track my cycle and my boyfriend uses condoms to be safe. Wishing you the best in whatever route you choose!
I’ve been on birth control for almost a year and Honestly sometimes my mood swings are so bad I feel I’m going crazy or my head is going to exploded. I can’t tell if it’s just 80% me and 20% BC, vice versa. And that’s the part that really gets to me because like what if I get off BC and I stay the same angry/sad person..
I’ve had my nexplanon for 4 years I’m sorry that you are experiencing this. 😢I have been very lucky and I have no symptoms, no period, no weight gain, no mood swings.
Spotting for 2 years......... oh my god................... I've been counting the days till I hit 10 weeks and then 6 months. I heard apparently after that point, it will continue with that same pattern of symptoms. It honestly already looks like this implant is failing me. I feel like all of these symptoms just lead to continuous bad symptoms. Like, I'm on the wrong track instantly already. I'm horrified.
Omg I’m thinking about getting mine removed as well…. It’s has been horrible…. And they say your body needs 3 months to get used to it but apparently in my case is not true!!! 😔😔😔
I Relate so much with what you said about feeling dull and losing connection to people and experiences I kind of went more numb thank you for sharing I just got mine out yesterday ❤
I've had the nexplanon twice now, and am a year in with the second one. I did have spotting for many months after getting the first implant and a very irregular period since then. I also got an ovarian cyst (one of the side effects of the implant) of 10cm which is was very concerning but it went away before we had to surgically remove it. Aside from this, I don't notice any other bad side effects but after watching your video I decided I won't be getting a 3rd implant after my current one expires. Just wanted to say that every woman have different experiences and you can never know before trying a birth control method. I guess you can have an "okay" experience, or a "bad" one but a "good" experience with any kind of birth control is a myth in my opinion...
Why don‘t you just use condoms? Me and my friends always just use them and I‘ve never gotten pregnant as well as them, they work just fine. Guys complaining about condoms and making women go through this is not fair!
I was taking Junel Fe the pill and it caused me to have severe headaches that put me in the ER. I had early symptoms of a stroke and had developed a brain bleed from the pill. I thought I was going to die. If you are using birth control for preventing pregnancy it’s not worth, best best it to practice abstinence and just use protection.
My nexplanon experience is horrible I’m getting it removed next month. I’ve only had it for 4 months but I now have extreme hair loss that I’ve never had before in my life, I have heart pain, which nexplanon puts on their website that it can cause blood clots leading to heart attack and stroke (they have multiple lawsuits) I have an inability to lose weight, I have horrible debilitating depression and anxiety, and very frequent panic attacks. I haven’t had panic attacks in over 5 years and all of a sudden after getting on the implant I have horrible attacks every week. Worst experience ever and I’m never taking BC again. Nexplanon was my first and will be my last.
And my obgyn NEVER once told me the serious life concerning side effects, which I even asked “which side effects are the worst?” “What are the risks?” And she never told me that so I feel very violated about it.
And I cry ALL THE TIME on this implant. I’ve never had this happen to me before. I have crying spells that last hours or days. I cry for no reason or for stupid stuff or because of the depression the implant causes. One day I ended up having a panic attack because of the fact that I couldn’t stop crying that day and I was really crying hard like deep sobs and I couldn’t figure out why. It wasn’t stopping all day and so at the end of the night I had a panic attack because I didn’t know what was wrong with me.
I just got mine removed today, and I was thinking if other ppl experienced what I did. I got it 2 years. My mental health really took a toll. I started therapy which regardless I’m so happy about that. But for the past 2yrs I haven’t felt like me. Especially this past yr I felt like I was going crazy and I couldn’t pin point what. Even with my therapist. Trying to find the trigger that cause me to get here. Let’s hope removing it helps me moving forward. 😭
Thank you so much for this video. My closest friends and family tell me to cheer up and ask what’s wrong and I had no idea that they could see my disconnect. I’ve had my nexplanon for 2 years no period whatsoever and I’m really debating getting it removed. I can’t do the pill I was crying every night.
I‘m currently on detox too! I had a little copper chain in, it worked fine but my period got so heavy (I had quite heavy periods before already) that I literally couldn‘t handle them anymore.. I lost so much blood every month, I even had iron deficiency and anemia because of it :( so I had to take it out after 3 years.. don‘t know what I‘m going for in the future but right now I‘ll just stick to condoms 😅
Just took the nexplanon out yesterday after giving it 6 months. I was bleeding for 3 weeks straight and never had a regular cycle. They had a hard time locating it so it was a traumatizing experience.
The medical staff for my insertion was also unprofessional. I think this is a trend. It’s such a vulnerable procedure that when people make comments or aren’t professional or taking it seriously it really worries you.
I have been off the pill for over a year now and had been on birth control since I was 13 my mother forced me to and I wasn’t even sexually active and it sucked. I feel so much better mentally being off of it I just felt off and there was so many other side effects to it. My fiancé noticed a huge difference as well and supported my choice and encouraged me to get off of it after telling him how I felt all the time and him seeing it first hand.
same i was 14 and now i’m 16 and i wanna get off because my anxiety and panic attacks, my heart is always racing, headaches, i can never focus in school and always fall asleep bc i zone out and i’m always tired/exhausted.i stopped doing the things i love like dancing, doing hair, singing, etc. i don’t know what to do. i feel like i’m definitely too young to be going through this when i don’t even do anything to have the need to be on birth control. i feel trapped.
@@miaralanaeee Aw I am so sorry girl. I know it’s hard. Hopefully your mom is more understanding than mine was and just sit down and talk to her how it’s making you feel. You shouldn’t be forced to take something you are not comfortable with. I told my mother I didn’t want to and she told me once boys will be boys. It’s sad society has shaped this standpoint. When you want to go on birth control you should be able to choose. I hope your mother comes to terms and let’s you get off of it. 💕
Literally everyone I know that’s had the nexplanon has had horrible side effects and had it removed because of said side effects. I’ve personally refused to use birth control all together bc I don’t wanna try to see if my body would accept it or have those bad side effects. I’m already a super sensitive / depressed person and I don’t wanna turn into a monster or take that risk😅😂
Hey how are you feeling now.. I had mine removed this week, am experiencing those chest pains headache and dizziness.. Did it eventually stop on your side? After how long
I started taking the pill 4 months ago and I'm aware of the incredible mood swings I'm getting because of it but i don't really know what to do about it because i currently need to be on birth control...why do we have to go through this fr
Do you need to be on birth control for contraception? Or for another health issue like heavy periods? I ask because there are other non-invasive, even non-hormonal methods that are effective. Spermicides are a great option, and only need to be used/administered when you have sex. There’s the IUD. The Diaphragm. You shouldn’t have to endure these side effects
Omg I'm listening to u n I feel relieved bcus thts all my symptoms while on the implant I'm spotting like every day and I tired of it I think I'm gonna take it out n try som tng else thank you for this big relief
I’ve had the pill, depo, and now nexplanon in which I’m getting removed next month. The side effects that I’ve experienced besides the weight gain are severe.
I gain so much Wait on this thing I mean like literally like 50 to 60 lb and a 3 month span and no matter how much I try to eat healthy and exercise it just does not work the scale will not go down I'm curious to see if I can lose the weight when I'm not on it
Me too! I gained a solid 60 pounds, I go to the gym 4x a week, weight lift, do cardio, eat well but the weight won’t budge, I got the implant removed yesterday so I’m hoping that it will change everything for me and my efforts will actually show progress now
@@sarahleopold1620 please keep me updated I would love to know if having it removed made a difference I feel like I'm starting to see a difference especially with like the eating I'm not hungry all the time
I just removed my implant almost a year ago this month. I am still “normalizing”. My emotions are just now regulating, my periods have become HORRENDOUS, but are also getting a lot better. Things will get worse before they get better. I have lost weight from removing my birth control, and am back at my normal weight. I’m really excited with my results.
Same exact situation happened to me!
@@karinafernandez5602 How do you feel now and how long did it take
I feel like there’s definitely a movement of girls getting off birth control for these exact reasons.
How long did it take to get your period back? My depo should be wearing off soon and I can’t wait
I’ve been taking magnesium, zinc, and other vitamins hoping to get things regulated as quick as possible!
literally just so excited to feel normal again !!!
I had my bc removed out my arm today. Never again. It’s poison!
Hey I’m the same! How did the removal go?
Same but with hormonal IUD. Women deserve better❤
Hey Vivian,
Unfortunately I didn't get off the pill until I had a stroke like about a year ago today (2/19/21).
Hey how are you feeling now
@@shakeyahyoungblood6324 feeling a little like myself again.
How did you feel after?

I had a horrible experience w/ birth control, it tore up my stomach. I’m so happy that I decided to stop taking it a few years ago.☺️
Same,I've been crying in the bathroom I pain for two days.
:( So thank you for making this video! love ya.
this comment really spoke to me and what I’m going through. I have an appointment to get mine removed next week. I am really hoping things change.
I am like in love with it!
just so you know, on hormonal contraception you don't get your period at all anything you get is like a fake period

Hi! I’m still struggling with acne months after getting off the pill. What products helped you?

Birth control destroyed my gut as well.
Im so done with the implant, I haven’t taken it out because I really don’t want to get pregnant 💀
And I can’t find any other birth control that suits me:(
Did you lose the weight after removing it?
@@gailkabelo6735 I think I’m losing weight more easily now that I don’t have it! I should weight myself to confirm it for sure lol
I’ll never go back to hormone birth controls ever again
same for me right now. only had mines for a month girl im getting this shit taken out on the 28! any updates on how you are now? 💖
@@rockellemarie1799 I feel like myself again. Happy and healthy. No more panic attacks! Good luck girl! ❤️
Yes that’s exactly how I’m feeling right now its so crazy what we gotta go through to not have kids
im with you girl... im trying to get mine removed now.. it's now jeopardizing my health because it's making me anemic and dropping my blood pressure.. no matter how hydrated i am its always low.
I've had the implant for about 2 years. I will be removing it on the 3 yr mark January 2023.
I wanted to contribute my experience and not invalidate others
I loved it. I lost weight, my acne is gone, I haven't had a period in 2 years (which is a perk for me)
I chose the implant bc I am bipolar 1 and I take 8 pills a day so I didn't want to keep taking extra pills just for birth control.
I've only had a great experience and I plan to do it again after I remove the first one (as long as it's safe and I am able to)
I am curious as to what the "Me" is like without BC tho.
(The one where you take your temp every morning and take ovulation tests and track your fertile cycle on an app)
Peace
@@wildflower4380 if you're comfortable I'd love to hear how you're doing! If you got nexplanon and how you're feeling so far :)
@@Moonbutnosun hi! Have you noticed any change to your acne since getting off of it?
Hello Tammy I had the same side effects you had and I just got mines taking it out 5 days ago do u have tik tok ? Or Instagram to talk more about it
I’m currently going through body pains, chest pains, & wanting to faint.
My mom forced me to get the implant at 14
The doctor did not wait for me to numb properly, he said "Can you feel that" while poking me and as soon as I said yes he stabbed the injector into my arm. My grandma had to hold me down. It was traumatic and stuck in my mind for a few years
I bled for the first 2 years straight, except for 1 month where they put me on oral birth control to try and "fix" my cycle.
Another thing, I was diagnosed with severe depression at 13 before I started birth control, I am doing significantly better now but I still have mild depression and that might be the birth control
I love the concept of the birth control implant and if I weren't in so much pain rn I wouldn't be considering taking it out
TLDR: I've been on Nexplanon 4 years and the side effects have Not gone away. Irregular, elongated periods, depression, nausea, and PAIN. I didn't have pain before this implant
I’m so sorry you were put through that, I hope you make the best decision for you with deciding your birth control method ❤
The universe was hearing me😭 I’m getting mine taken out next week cuz it’s made my skin ATROCIOUS after a few years. I also never stop bleeding😭
I have Endometriosis and the Nexplon implant has been the best thing for my over the last 6 yrs...
How’s it been going?
I guess you can have an "okay" experience, or a "bad" one but a "good" experience with any kind of birth control is a myth in my opinion...
also, btw, in France we don't use a syringe to numb the area but a cream applied an hour before hand which is great!!
Yea I believe that .
How long had you been using it before you went to the ER... Am glad your fine... 😢
@@Egh0127omg 😢 I been losing my hair like crazy can’t wait to take this thing out thank you for sharing your experience ❤
Welcome back to your feminine energy goddess self. Its good to be natural to feel ourselves.
Nexplanon seemed like an easy answer for me compared to the Mirena IUD. That IUD was the worst decision I’ve ever made in my entire life!
We love to here you are fine. Take much care. 🥰🙏🏼
I’m so happy everyone is getting off, it’s the most horrible thing ever!!! I was never on birth control until I turned 30. Worst decision
Is it safe to drive on your own after the removal or is it painful to have ur arm moving etc after it’s removed?
You should also read beyond the pill! I'm only on like chapter 2 or 3 but it is a good read!
early af! also, I hope to remove mine soon. been on birth control for over 10 years :/
Did u had side affects afterwards? Because I am dealing with headaches, chest pain, anxiety and diarreah
So what are you doing to prevent pregnancy for the time being?
I took mine out within 3 months of having it. It made me feel horrible!
I’m getting off nexplanon in June after 6 years. (Not including when I was on the pill) I’m ready to get off it
Would love to see an update video a year down the line!
