I wouldn't actually call this a long term review as much as I would call it a late review. None of the points touched upon benefit from having taken longer to review the phone. In fact, most of the conclusions reached sound like every critical review released within the same week as the V30 itself. I didn't understand why he said the manual controls make no sense. His reasoning was that you wouldn't use them for every single picture you take. That's like saying the engine in a sports car makes no sense because you're not driving at 160 mph (260 kph) all the time. The feature is there so that it can be accessed when needed, not all the time. For a review labeled "very long term" I'd have expected more than just the reviewer going outside and hitting the shutter button in automatic a few times. it seems that people just do phone reviews for the free clicks. Only a very few are actually adding to the knowledge space with what they produce, with some I've come across even saying they think doing so is a waste of time.
I agree. LG was the pioneer in DSLR like controls on a phone. As a photographer myself. I don't always have a camera on me, but I do have my phone so I appreciate the full control.
@Sean Adams Well said, my respect for you The most of reviewers keep criticizing every feature that lg introduce no matter how helpful and useful it's, and once that feature introduced by Samsung or apple even if they're too late everybody find it awesome and practical..., those are fake reviewers
A little late here, but yeah, "very long term"? wut? As soon as the video started I checked the date it was uploaded, only like a couple of months after it came out. To me, "very long term" would be about 6 months or more.
At our house we have the LG V30, Note 8 and iPhone X .. by far the most versatile and problem-free phone is the LG V30. Banding .. easy fix .. disable Auto Brightness. I use 75% and scheduled Comfort View. It's an easily fixed software issue not a hardware problem. Get a thin case or skin. If the rear glass breaks it's a $15 problem Vs iPhone X's $500 or 2X $199 AppleCare which you're insane not to purchase. Further, Android 8 is indeed available to Korean V30's and coming soon to other countries. The only reason to purchase a Note 8 is if you like or need a Stylist, women with long nails like my wife will indeed appreciate the Stylist S Pen for typing etc.
/// all of them need to be jail break to unleash its full potential. They are all canned w garbage, and the iphones is a Murcielago w the governor set at school speed limit.
Still rockin' my LG V30 in 2019! To me it is the best smartphone out there. It is lightweight, which is something often overlooked, and that makes it one of the best phones to handle constantly. It fits in the hand well (for me at least), has pretty good battery life, nice camera setup with the wide angle lense (which is probably the best feature on it), an easy on the eyes oled screen which i much prefer over my G6 (i do notice the G6 is a bit sharper of an image however), and i dont mind the lg software, i find it to be much less intrusive than say... touchwiz (ugh). Also notable is that they put the fingerprint scanner in the exact location it 'should be' on every smartphone ever made, and i like how it is also the power button which in a phone case like i have, keeps it from being turned on all the time in my pocket (as the power button on the side of other phones will often do). So in summery its the worst phone ever for the manufacturers cause i will keep using it until lg or someone else actually makes something better. I looked at the V40 and its just a gimmicky redo not worth it, the note 9 was a contender but it is heavy and has the stupid touchwiz interface (not a fan). Perhaps this year will bring something better such as the note 10 or v50? We shall see... Until then LONG LOVE THE V30 :)
You know I wish all reviewers/youtube channels would follow up 6 months later if they are able to keep review units with these long terms user reviews. Stunning videography and audio as always. Thanks for this.
What every happen to their $30.00 2yrs warranty from Amazon now it $109.00 bucks for v30 phone. damn Amazon you can't check square safe insurance company?
For a 2019 owners experience read here. Owner for 2 days. Bought at JB HiFi in Australia. Phone is currently on offer here so I picked it up to replace my ageing Note 3. Screen issue is not present on my handset. I take it LG has taken the time to rectify this issue. It looks great. Very dark blacks. Zero bleeding. I find the phone to be very fast and have a decent battery life. Sure it could be longer, but it's up there with the best. Performance is good too. Of course we always want stronger, faster and longer from everything in life but I find this is miles ahead of my old phone but that's to be expected of course. As for bloatware, there's not much but as with all other android devices this can be easily disabled in the app manager. The rear camera is very good and I'm not used to this level of low light performance from a phone. The wide angle camera is a nice addition too. Currently the phone is running android 8.0. The front facing camera is rather poor, but I never use it so it's no big deal to me. It looks like the same quality as that found on my old Note 3. Overall I'd give this phone a 9/10 in my early experience with it. So far so good.
I sense a fraud here. Im guessing this is a long term review in the sense that you're reviewing it again after waiting a while. Not really based on long term usage. I had my v30 for a month and had no issues with screen burn in or color banding. The camera is fantastic, especially compared to this lead weight (Note8) im carrying around. Updates aren't an issue. My wife's g4 was running 7.1 before we replaced it. My Note 8 sports 7.1.1 (yeah 7.1.2 is higher). Simple things like turning on hifi dac one time in the pull down was lost on you. Every time you hug a compatible headphone in it automatically comes on after that first time. The UI on LG is way more stock than the Note 8. No Bixby. Button. And the sides don't scratch easily. They do dent when slamming against the ground though.. all in all, I think your review is based off a 1 hour impression of the phone, not long term use..
DeltawolfZ Guerra it will still sound quite a bit better than the S8's audio. I tried my friend's included AKG earphones on his phone and it sounded rather muddy, but on my G6 it sounded significantly better.
Have had the V30 for 3 weeks now. I can confirm (personally), that I have had no issues with the screen whatsoever. Its truly a beautiful experience with the camera and that Quad DAC (if you love good quality music). I am extremely happy with this phone, no disappointments at all
LG really need to remake their software because the issues with the V30 are mostly software related (bad camera processing, bad skin for android and a non regular software update).
Thanks for such an in depth review!! I wish more channels had long term reviews, or even touching on the post release software support. Great job eber! I always look forward to your reviews
As an LG V30 owner, I've not noticed any issues with my display, though I generally don't run it at full brightness because it's usually too bright for my tastes. I really enjoy the Quad DAC, I never had to go into a menu to turn it on, it was on by default from the start, and it activates as soon as you connect an audio cable to the headphone jack. I've compared it to my wife's S8 in the car, and I've listened to it on high-end headphones. The V30 just sounds better. The display has been great for me personally, and when using it with Google daydream, the experience was remarkably close to my Oculus Rift, however, there is no competing with the tracking controls found in room scale VR kits. I don't use the camera much but that wasn't why I got it, but what I have used has been more than satisfying.
for me it seems more like a hardware issue, but i would be glad if you are right, because i`m debating on getting this phone or not. Can you please share proof about your claim because i searched the net about this being a soft issue or not, and i didn`t found anything what would say it was software and was resolved, also searched if the oreo update had anything related to the display but nothing
Good to hear I'm not the only one who hates glass backs. I do like this phone though. I would get if it were cheaper, mostly because of the high quality DAC and AMP.
I have a V30. The first one I got had serious banding issues. Returned it for a replacement. My current V30 is fine, but, when the brightness is low, dark objects either don't render or have a pixelated look.
same here. I got lucky and never had to bring mine back, but the display looks almost like you're looking at a piece of cloth. Very "grainy". That being said, watching movies and playing games you don't notice it at all, it's only when you have a solid color darkish on the screen. For me it's completely livable and i still love this phone, but i'd recommend checking out one in a store before purchasing if someone is that worried about their experience being ruined by it
I think that might be to do with the colour gamma. I get the same if the gamma is too low on my OLED TV. I don't know if Android permits it, but if you can, change the colour gamma values and hopefully it should make it better
The REPEATED comment over and over about the phone shipping with Nouget and not updated to Oreo seems so BIASED as Samsung, HTC and the carriers have not updated the S8s Note 8s and such either. So far only 5 or 6 phones have Oreo and it took Samsung almost half a year to update from Marshmellow to Nouget last year. You are welcome to your opinion on the camera ..i use my dual cameras almost every day in my V20 ..very convenient .
Picked this up at the end of 2018 for 399 ... My last phone was also an LG which i bought for the same reason. As long as those LG prices keep dropping in price like that, i'll keep on buying yesteryear high-end LG's ;)
I purchased a new one for $228 in 2019! This phone is one of the very LG phones has great all-round features! The audio (hi-fi DAC) is supposedly awesome!
@@pilotdog68 I like the lg v30 considering the current low price. It has awesome hifi DAC and a very feature-rich camera app. I am still learning how to use it...
Got mine in late 2017 also - and now it's August 2019 - OLED display still holding deep blacks. No edge bleed, no burn-in/shadowing. Love this phone but may wait for the v50 to come down in price before making the jump forward.
AscendAB android problems... might get a Pixel or an iPhone as the next phone, sucks to have such specs and the device still laggs and also gets updates so rarely......
I also enjoy the fact that its a decent phone which you can actually replace the battery on! Can't do that with any reasonably good phone this year! (Although do you get screen retention on your v20?)
i buy it for 280 and cant be more happy .... use it with sennheiser hd 650 and no need to buy amp , great sound .... all part can easily replace by yourself and its very cheap compare to samsung screen's
About LG's image processing; Flip it into manual, and turn on RAW+JPEG. This will give you the JPEG (LG Software) And the RAW (Just the image) This will (obviously) get rid of LG's image processing. I'm not 100% sure if you can do this on the V30 as I use the LG G4. But as a Smartphone aimed at people who want good mobile Photo and Video; it makes 0 sense if you couldn't use RAW.
I bought an LG V30 in January 2018, and I'm in love by this phone. I'm a Samsung fan since the last years...S3, S5, S6 Egde +, S7 and Note 8....all great devices. I've decided to give a try to the V30 by his unique features with the audio and camera....stunning phone, no regrets at all. I'm not facing the issue with the screen, sharp and crisp, perfec colors stunning image quality. I was a bit afraid about this due all reviews a saw on the web and TH-cam. You know what? No image issues on my phone. This phone is awesome and if you like sound quality.....this is the first option.
Great review, love the way you shot the video and spoke got so in depth. I am a v30 owner myself and don't get me wrong the jepg sharpness can be annoying but if you're like me and shoots in manual almost all the time, the raw files are amazing! I have the Lightroom app and it makes my friend's note 8s and iPhone Xs photos look significantly inferior. You didn't touch on the great audio recording and quad DAC for headphone playback. I'm only saying this so that people who are interested in this phone as a content creation and consumption tool should not be swayed away by your review. LG has bad marketing for this phone anyway I'd really appreciate it if the youtube reviewer community that I trust gave this phone a manual approach review. Hope this can be some constructive feedback :)
No offense to the reviewer but he's an idiot for using just auto-mode for the camera. the LG V30 has full manual camera and video controls. AND VIDEO , full manual It's a beast camera when you use the pro mode in manual you have full control like DSLR. The way he used the camera It's like buying a porshe and driving it around in 1st gear only .
i got a V30 at the start of december and as far as i can tell i don't have any issues with the display! while the viewing angles aren't as good as samsung's OLED displays, i can't really bring myself to care especially since it never distracts me in everyday use. for everything else, the software doesn't bother me too much personally (nova launcher, a good icon pack and a black theme work wonders), performance and battery life are incredible compared to my s7 edge and the cameras are so much fun to use especially because of that wide angle camera
I'm a quote very long-term user as well I got my phone back in October when they first came out. I've been pretty pleased with it and enjoyed your video. You're obviously very tech-savvy and I appreciate your input
I bought myself a V30+ and I've had it about a month ruffly and I'm not experiencing any problems whatsoever. I'm still using the stock launcher with a deep black wallpaper and I get really good batterylife. In the first 3 or 4 charge cycles I got kinda bad batterylife but after that I'm getting about two-two and a half days usage. Only drawbacks are Always-on is a battery crusher and the FFC is bad buuuut I'm not a selfie guy so I don't care. The OLED is beautiful with no issues and this is comming from a long term Samsung AMOLED user. Both the cameras are good if you know what to do with them...I'm still learning. Pixel 2 XL was my other choise but when I felt the V30 in my hand...instantly my other hand reached for my wallet. If you have some questions I'll be glad to answer. Happy New Year.
That little tidbit of a recommendation of the G6 over the V30, and why, is EXACTLY what I was looking for in a review THANK YOU! This review is fantastic, you've saved me a few hundred bucks, thank you so much!
Watching from my LG V30...(coming off a GS7 Edge and previous iPhones). I've been extremely pleased with LG and they've gotten a lot better now. Fortunately my V30 OLED has been impressive
having the LG V30 for a couple of weeks now, and the first thing I checked was the uniformity of black, to my suprise it's perfect. that's probably why here in europe the launch was delayed so much.
Good video, I went to bed thinking I was going to get a V30 in the morning. Ended up with the Pixel 2. I know myself too well and would always feel annoyed missing those software updates. The awesome camera and software makes the Pixel 2 a winner for me!
Goes to Best buy: Mind: Buy a v30, buy a v30, buy a v30, *BUY A V30!* Don't buy anything else. Body: Instructions unclear. Bought a Pixel 2 XL, and an LG 4k OLED HDR Wallpaper TV. Mind: *GOD DAMN IT!*
LG G6 is currently on Amazon at around 390 euros, which clearly suggests that the LG V30 is - up to this date (21 Feb 2018) - still overpriced at around 690 euros on Amazon. The main issue of LG G6 for me is its insufficient autonomy (LG chose to eliminate the removable battery and still provide low autonomy...). In my opinion the LG V30 is worth buying if the prices goes below 500 euros, especially considering that so many phones will be released for lower prices after the MWC 2018.
*YOU CAN SHOOT IN RAW* the phone's target audience is not mainstream sheep who don't understand basic photography. Anyone who expects to get a perfect photo every time should get an iphone or samsung as they've never used a SLR before where you're used to having only 7% of the photos being usable. I have a V30+ 128gb bought in HK, ZERO problems, what you mention does not exist on my unit. I agree with you about the software which is basically the same as the G3 which is outdated I do not like it. For me the phone is too skinny and knifes in my hands when holding it, it would have been SO MUCH BETTER if it was thicker like the Huawei Mate 10 Pro with a 4000+ mAH battery.
As a V30 owner (upgraded from original droid turbo), I absolutely love it. I was mildly disappointed with the low light, but it's still absolutely miles ahead of my old phone. I can usually get 2 days out of my phone and I have the always on display running and generally watch at last an hour per day of netflix on it. While I do think you have a point as far as camera quality with this phone in general, if you're comparing automatic settings to the Pixel 2, that seems a bit unfair. This phone is driven to the multimedia oriented people who like fiddling around with settings and enjoying the manual control. There *does* seem to be some sort of processing on the photos, but overall, I picked up a silicone skin for it and have absolutely loved every aspect of it. The Quad-DAC is a huge bonus and another point toward its multimedia aspect. The competition seems like it'd be better just for every day use and quick snap style photos/videos. The V30 is more of a toy or tool (depending on the user) that you can play around with regarding everything picture, video, and audio.
I've had my V30 for a few months now, I've not noticed any issues with my screen at all. Really happy with the phone having owned iPhone only previously
Got the v30 in November... Zero screen issues. Also have the G6, no comparison. The v 30 is Superior in every way. Even on your video I prefer the pictures taken by the V 30. The pixel's aren't bad, but to my eye they're not even close to better. I've compared this phone to everything on the market right now and I believe it blows all of them away. Oh, and I paid about $400 for it brand new.
Ditched my S8+ a couple of weeks back to give the V30 a shot. I'm happy with my decision. Quad DAC with my Shure SE846 sound amazing. Finger print scanner is in the proper location and scans much faster than S8+. Battery life is great. POLED screen is excellent. I also prefer the more rectangular screen/body shape as it feels easier to hold and easier to view normal documents and web. The camera is excellent, I have no complaints with it, I even decided to return the DxO One for Android I was testing since the V30 camera is as good or better. I've been a long time Sammy user and had just about every Sammy phone over the last 5 years, Note 4 I think was my my favorite. In many ways the V30 reminds me of the N4 minus the S pen but with better specs and amazing DAC.
Recently got V30+, my first LG phone ever - replacing Galaxy S7 Edge which drove me nuts. Also having owned an S6, I am so done with Samsung and their annoying bloatware and design shortcomings. (I do like the Tab S2 to a large degree, though.) I should probably have switched to LG a long time ago (all appliances in my home are LG, except for a very annoying Samsung microwave oven). Whatever LG bloatware came with the phone (typical malady of Asian phones), got disabled and stayed that way. (Unlike Samsung pests that persist, no matter how hard one tries to disable their duplication of Android / Google apps.)
I don't get the "LG doesn't update their phones" part. My V20 is running Android 9.0 Pie and it's a 2016 model! I wouldn't be surprised if the V30 got Android 10. Aww, those reviewers trying to sound unbiased are so adorable...
For the "regular" users who do not want to fiddle with the camera.. just install Google Cam on V30 and get the same Samsung/iPhone quality photos.. otherwise the phone is not built to be used like that.. the QDAC alone makes it worth it over the G6... also depending on your location you can get the V30 pretty cheap.. like here in Pakistan it costs around $300 vs OnePlus 5T for $600.. prices for Feb 2019
The display on my V30 is is perfectly uniform. No hot spots or anything. The one I tested definitely did have the issue, but my older one that I own is perfect.
Got my V30 a couple days ago and thankfully I don't have the colour issues mentioned in the video. So far, I'm very please with this phone, even compared to my previous G6.
I'm still using my LG V30 18 months after launch and (other than the battery starting to wane a little), it is still an awesome phone......waited until April of 2018 for LG to upgrade the OS to Oreo but it has been a great purchase for me and I'm considering purchasing another one when my 2 year plan expires in a few months :)
I was an actor in the youtube commercial for this phone. It was filmed in Sydney Australia and the Korean producer (hired by LG but not internally affiliated) did a total runner back to Korea with no intention of paying the actors, extras or production crew. Thankfully my agent chased them up hard and took it up with LG Australia, and after nearly 4 months we finally got our money. Not happy with LG for choosing a sketchy producer but that doesn't mean their engineers are at fault. Good phone for the price.
I am a long term user also and this is my daily driver. The V30 has been awesome! Had been a long time Samsung owner and I am not going back. Camera is awesome, screen is awesome, performance is awesome. I don't have the Oreo update yet, but it will come.
@@ahmedtaha3663 it never gave me issues. Never worried about space. I've had Samsungs forever and never liked them like I liked that phone. I have the LG G8 thinq and I hate it.
I just heard your voice for a few seconds...and heard your first few lines..I decided to subscribe. Where were you all this time? Another great youtuber.
Most people use phones for two years. Two months is nothing compared to that. A review is supposed to help people buy, don't call it a long term review if you're only 8% of the way into it's average lifespan.
Jacob eMatt So you want reviews after two years of usage? During said two years, two more generations of flagship phones would release. You need to think about what your asking for here.
That doesn't make the title less of a lie. Call it was it is, a review. Not a "VERY LONG TERM" review. I don't want a two year review, though those are helpful. What i want is for the clickbait title to fuck off.
Hey Eber! I've had the V30 for about 3 months now! I wanted to send this message to you directly because I really like your reviews :) I feel like reviewers are really quick to slot the stock apps as bloatware that needs to be deleted. Honestly, in my opinion, the stock calendar, tasks and email apps on the V30 are great. They take way better advantage of the tall aspect ratio compared to google's offerings, and they support the latest features like home screen shortcuts. I know there are third parties that some prefer more, but I'm willing to bet some of LG's apps are more fully featured than Google's stock android apps. And that's why its such a shame reviewers never seem to actually try it- they just run away screaming "BLOATWARE" haha
Very good review. I have a V30 and a Note 8. I'm trying to decide which one to keep. I haven't noticed any screen issues in my V30 unit. It's battery life, as you pointed out, is stellar, and it's performance is very good. Things I don't like about it are the camera, how light it is (materials are 1st rate but it feels cheap because of that lack of weight - it weighs less than the G6). Overall, it's the small quirks that are making me switch back to the Note 8, after earlier switching to the V30. Unreliable Bluetooth & WiFi, many apps crashing regularly and so on. It's very close to greatness.
Wow! Chill... The thing is you are right and he is also: This phone is propably the best (I didn't test it) for photography if thats your main use. But HardwareCanucks tries to rewiev for the average user who doesn't care about how much settings he can play around with, only wants ok pictures if he just opens the camera (average is subjective of course). This review is good because it doesn't talk black and white, for example "the best" or "the worst". I think this should be apreciated and I would apreciate it from you as well.
are u speaking objectively when you say the LGV30 camera is better than the pixel 2xl camera? cuz many different people say the pixel 2 xl has the best camera out
oh ok....and LG pretty much owns the camera department when it comes to cell phones. gonna sell my S7 Edge and Note 8 in the spring to get the V30 because i don't think the S9+ camera is gonna hit with the super small pixels they're senselessly adding to the sensor so i expect the V30 camera to be the best this year
i have no idea what in my comment says douchebag and sarcastic but if you picked that up maybe i should take up acting cuz i'm 100% serious about what i'm going to do. i'm an LG guy. i prefer LG products across the board including their tv's. i still have Verizon's LG G2, had the G3, G4, V10 and badly wanted the V20. only reason why i don't have the LG V30 now is cuz i can't pay top dollar for a phone that only has 4GB RAM in 2017/2018 so i'm gonna get it in a few months when the price drops. i prefer LG cell phones cuz i like their software and they have the best cell phone cameras
You don't need to go into settings to switch on the hifi dac. There is a quick toggle in the usual pull down bar at the top with the Wi-Fi and bluetooth toggles. And when you turn it on once, it automatically goes on every time you plug in a headphone.
I mostly agree with this review. I have the V30 and am definitely suffering from the display issues as well. Can't be bothered to have it changed as I have no idea if the new one will be better. Otherwise love this phone in virtually every way, and that battery life, wow! It sounds stupid I know, but having a phone where I never have to worry about that is absolutely amazing! As for the camera? Yeah, I agree that LG's processing in their default app is not very good, although manual mode can be amazing, especially in low light, and video, whether shooting in manual mode or not, is excellent. As for pictures, well I've installed a Google Camera Mod and the picture quality is the same as on the pixel 2, with excellent processing, with the added benefit of arguably better camera hardware (minus dedicated chip that is, which means that taking a picture does take ever so slightly longer, but it is not bad at all). Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this phone (Unless the person cares about a good ffc that is).
I would like to see the audio recording feature mentioned on the V30 vs the other competing flagships. Go to a concert and record live music. Compare who comes out on top. The stereo recording and noise reduction produces amazing sound for a mobile device
After having this phone for a year I can definitely say its an amazing piece of hardware but LG still moves at a glacially slow pace when it comes to delivering updates, last update i recieved was in May2018, its now Jan2019 and still no updates or security patches.
I will say that as a V30 owner the phone has been phenomenal. It’s fast as hell and I don’t see any of the screen issues reported by the reviewer. The reviewer failed to even mention the quad dac and I find it interesting that he is hitting LG for slow Oreo updates and recommending the Note 8 which has only had a limited release of Oreo just like the V30. Samsung has historically been at the bottom of the list for OEM updates. I have moved away from Samsung after many years of support because my usage changed severely over the last couple of years and my S7 Edge slowed down to the point of becoming virtually unusable in a year and a half and I experienced severe screen burn in. I love Samsung and would still be with them but they don’t handle extreme power usage very well. Time will tell with the V30 but can say that I used the G4, which was my first LG phone, for 6 months in the aforementioned manner and experienced none of those issues. The V30 camera was built for manual pro style usage. I’m not a big camera user but I put the pixel camera apk on the V30 for my usual full auto usage and it works great.
This was a thorough review. Great job. My wife has a v30, T-Mobile variant, and the discoloration at any angle makes me crazy. Aside from that, fairly impressive.
Got one just yesterday all the way here in Pakistan (T-mobile Variant) Swapped a note 8 for this. Was expecting these issues, but somehow, mine doesn't suffer from this. No banding, No inconsistencies, No bleed. Yes, one, literally one dead-ish pixel, but i'll take it.
My experience (about 2 months) with the V30's screen. After hearing about the banding and color uniformity issues I immediately checked my unit when I purchased it from T Mobile. It could be that I am lucky, but my screen is nearly perfect. The only issue I have with it is when you set your display brightness to the lowest setting colors become muted and watching videos becomes difficult. But for me it's a non issue since i just set the brightness to around 20% and it looks just as good again.
This was somewhat of a tough review for me to swallow, yet it might be my favorite yet. Out of the dozen and some reviews I've watched, all have been tremendous praise, expect for the front facing camera and the Lg skin. Eber really dug into this phone and pulled out some serious qualms with the V30, and really admire that. Definitely gained a subscriber.
I had the V30 for almost a month and ended up returning it (I actually had a 2nd V30 and only kept it for a few hours). LTE reception was horrible (was mostly fixed with an update since though) and the fingerprint scanner was an issue for me. The camera was OK but a step back from the Galaxy S7 I had. The screen on my first one was OK, but the 2nd one I got seemed to be a bit better. I think the screens have been improved. There are now reports that the glass in front of the V30 camera is prone to breaking without being dropped. I'm using a Pixel 2 XL now and I don't regret leaving the V30 behind, although it is a very nice phone.
I got 2 v30's and 2 wireless mini projectors (that are really neat!) for 1200 usd paid 30 usd/month and it has been my greatest purchase ever... Neither mine nor my gf phone has a single scratch on it and we only use a thin silicone case
The hifi dac alone for me makes it a better choice over other phones. For me I can notice a difference in sound quality in pretty much any speakers I plug it into.
I know I'm commenting a bit late. I got my v30+ back in December and immediately noticed the dark spots and banding on my model. After a 2 week turn around from LG repair my new screen is progressively brighter at the bottom. Needless to say it's in the mail for another repair.
I use nokia z launcher. I have zero issues with oled. Use dragon skin from dbrand. I bought this phone for the quad dac. I chose it over the 5t just because of that. Whatever issues may exist that alone makes up for any cost difference.
Iv got this phone. I didn't see any of the color issues or over sharpening you spoke of. And if i got the time to set up my shot...manual mode is perfect. Also if you practice using the controls, its easy to set shots up quickly. If youve ever used an dslr in manual mode...then the learning curve on this phone is a day or two .
One thing you were wrong about the QSlide nav button it is NOT a quick drawer of apps. It is as it's name even says... QSlide apps which are LG's apps which can run ontop of everything as a movable, resizable window which you can control the transparency of.
True, but impedance isn't really the issue, it's the DAC quality that matters. Samsung for instance have astonishingly poor DACs in their products (my S8 included) and deliver a very mediocre soundstage, particularly if you have high-end earphones. My se846's sound totally different with a high end amplifier and the DAC in the V30 is by all accounts, phenomenonal.
Alexander G of course, the impedance is a issue. Try some 600 ohm beyerdynamic dt990 on it. With those cans you can even challenge some cheap desktop head-amps.
Here's the thing about impedance. Its only half of the story on how hard it is to drive. The other half is its efficiency or how sensitive it is per milliwatt or millivolt. The AKG K7XX's are actually pretty ineffecient. Also, yeah... you wanna know a really hard to drive headphone? The HE6. 50 ohms of impedance, and if my memory serves me right, under 85db/mw. Can be ran on a phone, but good luck actually being able to drive them in general before you hit distorting levels of volume and still isn't that loud.
subscribed.... thanks for such a good video... I love how you put forward all the good and bad points. Thats how it should be. We need to make an informed decision as consumers. Also do you have a HTC U11 long term review.
Ive had me v30 for over a month with no case finally dropped on the top right corner and shattered the baxk glass so got a caze in two days no other issues at all plus 2 years insurance right from lg
@Sean Adams Well said, my respect for you
The most of reviewers keep criticizing every feature that lg introduce no matter how helpful and useful it's, and once that feature introduced by Samsung or apple even if they're too late everybody find it awesome and practical..., those are fake reviewers
I totally agree too!
Thats true 100 percent

Ryan also how about NOT using a preproduction unit? It may experience more issues than a regular consumer product
What every happen to their $30.00 2yrs warranty from Amazon now it $109.00 bucks for v30 phone. damn Amazon you can't check square safe insurance company?
this is no longterm review because no mentition of no android9 update or bluetoothbugs
I’m literally looking at dick smith right now in new zealand, this phone ticks all the boxes i must get it!
They do dent when slamming against the ground though.. all in all, I think your review is based off a 1 hour impression of the phone, not long term use..
this is still the best music phone in android world i am using it from may 2019...................................😍
Quad DAC is worth it.
Definitely!
What if you use regular headphones
On my g6
Using jbl headphones And the dac rocks
DeltawolfZ Guerra it will still sound quite a bit better than the S8's audio. I tried my friend's included AKG earphones on his phone and it sounded rather muddy, but on my G6 it sounded significantly better.
Does the Quad DAC matter when using bluetooth connection?
Have had the V30 for 3 weeks now. I can confirm (personally), that I have had no issues with the screen whatsoever. Its truly a beautiful experience with the camera and that Quad DAC (if you love good quality music). I am extremely happy with this phone, no disappointments at all
LG really need to remake their software because the issues with the V30 are mostly software related (bad camera processing, bad skin for android and a non regular software update).
sebx300 agree. At last just follow what samsung did with their android skin
What's a skin
the lg ui that's being put over the base android
sebx300 That encourages me to try out the OnePlus5T as they have an entire community of users always working on software updates.
They're at least more regular in updates than Samsung :/
Thanks for such an in depth review!! I wish more channels had long term reviews, or even touching on the post release software support.
Great job eber! I always look forward to your reviews
HTC One M7 here
I just wanted a serious comparative about the quad-dac and if it really works or someway to somehow prove it.
Bruno Masters I think pocketnow's Juan bagnel did a video on the dac compared to something..
Bruno Masters From what I've read, seen, or heard is that the quad dac on the LG V30 is the best of any phone out there.
I am buying a refurbished unit of this one. I think older flagships are better than buying today's midrange smartphones.
Carlos Stout I think he was being bias.
Issues with display except blue shifting at angle were sorted out shortly after launch (or even at retail launch) with software update.
for me it seems more like a hardware issue, but i would be glad if you are right, because i`m debating on getting this phone or not.
Can you please share proof about your claim because i searched the net about this being a soft issue or not, and i didn`t found anything what would say it was software and was resolved, also searched if the oreo update had anything related to the display but nothing
It is clearly a hardware issue, so if you buy it, make sure you can return it if you get bad display.
Good to hear I'm not the only one who hates glass backs.
I do like this phone though. I would get if it were cheaper, mostly because of the high quality DAC and AMP.
Boris Ahsmann Tis why we have the V20 and V10 thankfully. Cheap as dirt secondhand. And they have that awesome DAC
Boris Ahsmann yup, agree with you. Please make it cheap lol
ffs wrong... LG G4 has wireless charging through plastic and some people have fitted it on the leather back that you can get whit the phone.
Asle Elve Skofteland Okay but this is opposed to something hard and durable (also waterproof) like metal.
Boris Ahsmann IKR ? I'd trade wireless charging for a metal back anyday
RicoKen2000 actually, my Note 8 is still running 7.1.1 and overall I hate the phone. I cannot wait to get back onto a v30! It arrives today!!
@@btruong2008 how do you like it?
@@pilotdog68
I like the lg v30 considering the current low price.
WOWOWOWOW i just got my v30 after a long wait and i have to say it is buttery smooth and runs like a dream! I LOVE IT
My LG G6 is sadly still on Android 7.0, whilst my Nexus 5X is already running 8.1.0.
It's just sad.
AscendAB android problems... might get a Pixel or an iPhone as the next phone, sucks to have such specs and the device still laggs and also gets updates so rarely......
Project treble will hopefully address this massive issue in the future
Felix>> i hope so.
Radonkey>> i know, but i just find it sad about my, still high-end phone.
Gotta thank your TSP for that... Not LG.
Replaced my G6 to a Pixel 2 for that exact reason
rocking my V35 in 2022.
Ive had mine for 8 months. I absolutly love it
I must be getting old when "months" = long term.
JDOG1337 "very long term" no less. Are people calling a few month long relationships "very ling term" these days? ha, ha.
very true, when you put a very long term on your mobile phone review title, I expect it's at least 3 years after the initial release date.
Lets make it then three yrs and mote than likely you will be the only viewer.
@@sungleong 3 YEARS!!! LOLz. Might as well make it a 10 years to be fair JA. JA!
iam more than happy with my lg v20 its the best phone ever and i gto it for 300 euros !!! brand new
I also enjoy the fact that its a decent phone which you can actually replace the battery on! Can't do that with any reasonably good phone this year! (Although do you get screen retention on your v20?)
dpanch_89 no not at all
dpanch_89 its the best phone i have used its better than the galaxy s8 plus i use at work i would pick my v20 over that any day
i buy it for 280 and cant be more happy .... use it with sennheiser hd 650 and no need to buy amp , great sound .... all part can easily replace by yourself and its very cheap compare to samsung screen's
me neither
Who's still watching it now? (2019)
@korean chin
What are your oponion in 2020 is it still great phone ??
I have zero issues with my V30 display. If you have to go looking for an issue then it’s not an issue. There are no problems with real life usage.
10r4everr Very constructive. And valid points.
IDK man, those pictures look great to me and I don't even want the phone.
No offense to the reviewer but he's an idiot for using just auto-mode for the camera. the LG V30 has full manual camera and video controls.
AND VIDEO , full manual
It's a beast camera when you use the pro mode in manual you have full control like DSLR.
Brilliant review, but the price is way off. It's been $600 for months now
Drogheda Drones & Fun It's 500€ in Europe now
Just picked up the v30 plus for $450 on contract
$399 unlocked from Amazon
250in ebay unlocked basically new working great 4months in love it. Destroys both the pixel and s8 which i used previously
Currently like 250$-300$ from where I stay
Let's see what can I say about the lgv30 well in 2019 this phone is the best phone I ever had it's comfortable in your hands and amazing phone
My v30 had none of those problems. But I got mine six months after release.

Excellent demeanor, delivery, vocals, and coverage. I'm not sure there's anyone who does it better. Well done sir.
My V30, purchased in May, has a really good OLED,.no faults at all !
the LG v20 is still on android 7.0
lg are terrible at updating their phones.
Mr. Liam even Samsung. My S7 Edge is on 7.0 too.
Same here with HTC 10
V10 here on Android 6.0 🙁
I have a V20 and even though it doesn't have Oreo it still is a really good phone even when compared to new phones released this year
Yeah I have to V20, TMobile released another update, by it was just a security update. I expected this one to roll out with Oreo early.
having the LG V30 for a couple of weeks now, and the first thing I checked was the uniformity of black, to my suprise it's perfect. that's probably why here in europe the launch was delayed so much.
Dude . you just earned a sub. Great Video.... Exactly what I was looking for. Narration was 10/10. Video editing was top notch.
Good video, I went to bed thinking I was going to get a V30 in the morning. Ended up with the Pixel 2. I know myself too well and would always feel annoyed missing those software updates. The awesome camera and software makes the Pixel 2 a winner for me!
Goes to Best buy:
Mind: Buy a v30, buy a v30, buy a v30, *BUY A V30!* Don't buy anything else.
Nope.. Stuck on android 9.
LG v30 plus (128gb) is priced just $50 more than OnePlus 5T in India..
Buying it in 2020 for 200$ just for the audio 😍
I am a long term user also and this is my daily driver. The V30 has been awesome! Had been a long time Samsung owner and I am not going back. Camera is awesome, screen is awesome, performance is awesome. I don't have the Oreo update yet, but it will come.

Yo how tf is two months VERY long term?
The V30 isn't even out yet in most places
Jacob eMatt A lot of reviewers only use a phone for a week before posting their reviews. 2 months is ages in comparison.
Most people use phones for two years. Two months is nothing compared to that. A review is supposed to help people buy, don't call it a long term review if you're only 8% of the way into it's average lifespan.
Well, a 2-year review won't be very helpful now would it?
Jacob eMatt So you want reviews after two years of usage? During said two years, two more generations of flagship phones would release. You need to think about what your asking for here.
That doesn't make the title less of a lie. Call it was it is, a review. Not a "VERY LONG TERM" review. I don't want a two year review, though those are helpful. What i want is for the clickbait title to fuck off.
Hey Eber! I've had the V30 for about 3 months now! I wanted to send this message to you directly because I really like your reviews :)
I feel like reviewers are really quick to slot the stock apps as bloatware that needs to be deleted.
What exactly do you mean with unreliable WiFi?
I have the LG V30 and honestly, love it. Better battery life than the G6 and S8. Fast as hell, and an amazing camera.
This review is so good!
Wow! I think this should be apreciated and I would apreciate it from you as well.
are u speaking objectively when you say the LGV30 camera is better than the pixel 2xl camera? cuz many different people say the pixel 2 xl has the best camera out
oh ok....and LG pretty much owns the camera department when it comes to cell phones. gonna sell my S7 Edge and Note 8 in the spring to get the V30 because i don't think the S9+ camera is gonna hit with the super small pixels they're senselessly adding to the sensor so i expect the V30 camera to be the best this year
i have no idea what in my comment says douchebag and sarcastic but if you picked that up maybe i should take up acting cuz i'm 100% serious about what i'm going to do. i'm an LG guy. i prefer LG products across the board including their tv's. i still have Verizon's LG G2, had the G3, G4, V10 and badly wanted the V20. only reason why i don't have the LG V30 now is cuz i can't pay top dollar for a phone that only has 4GB RAM in 2017/2018 so i'm gonna get it in a few months when the price drops. i prefer LG cell phones cuz i like their software and they have the best cell phone cameras
lol it's ok...u didn't know...it's alright...hey how bout you making it up to me by giving me your V30 for my S7 Edge? =P
Had mine since Oct 5. Love love love this phone. Audio is awesome. Great camera and perfect display. Finger print sensor is in a perfect spot.
Very nice throughout review, clear and onpoint. Subscribed.👍
My LG V30 is the very best phone that i have ever owned!
This was a thorough review. Great job. My wife has a v30, T-Mobile variant, and the discoloration at any angle makes me crazy. Aside from that, fairly impressive.
Got one just yesterday all the way here in Pakistan (T-mobile Variant)
Swapped a note 8 for this.
Was expecting these issues, but somehow, mine doesn't suffer from this.
No banding, No inconsistencies, No bleed.
Yes, one, literally one dead-ish pixel, but i'll take it.
Just picked it up for 210$, in like new condition(the plus version even 128gb). Taking advantage of technology these days haha
love your review man, keep it up!
Looks like I'll be keeping my Droid turbo 2 for a bit. Excellent review, appreciate the time you took making this which helped me a ton.
Good job.
Oddly enough, I have not noticed any color discoloration like yours did. I've been happy with mine so far.
Watching from it
I got 2 v30's and 2 wireless mini projectors (that are really neat!) for 1200 usd paid 30 usd/month and it has been my greatest purchase ever...
V20 owner, still happy with it, but wondered how the v30 holds up, so I appreciate this long term review. Not sure where I'll go after my v20 retires.
AKG K7xx are low impedance, BTW. They're supposed to be easy to drive, hehe
Such an ass
Is it better than the HTC 10 dac
Just brought one for 160 bucks on eBay I am in love
My lg v30 dosnt havr any of those screen issues (including blue shift), so the screen is gorgeous.
Ive had me v30 for over a month with no case finally dropped on the top right corner and shattered the baxk glass so got a caze in two days no other issues at all plus 2 years insurance right from lg
