I have to disagree with the album Ultraviolence and despite the fact that I do enjoy her newer work, I just favour the production with this album so much more with the grunge influence and drums used I think it just pairs so much better with her vocals. Some of her newer work whilst I enjoy it I do find it harder to listen to because of the lyricism and how it comes off as too wordy and descriptive rather than metaphorical which can make the tracks feel slower and less replayable.

Your opinion on Rare is how I feel about Selena’s entire career. She’s a safe artist. Not the first or the second or even the third person I’d think to ever play but if I hit shuffle on a playlist and her song comes on .. I may not switch it but I’ll also make myself do something else so it turns into background noise

    • @paristiger
      @paristiger ปีที่แล้ว +52

I agree completely , definitely a safe artist, this isn't the right way to put this but is the only was I can describe her in my mind, she's just kinda famous for being famous, her vocal ability is just not great in my opinion, I've never seen her sing good live and she lip syncs a lot. Despite all that I do think she was a talented song writer not so much anymore

    • @dotcom3015

@@paristiger she acts and has a successful company. There’s also people that actually listen to her music. @@paristigerAs a big Selena fan, I have to say that you're both right. She doesn't have a strong voice, but listen to her cover of Cry me a river, it's good. She should stick with that kind of music. However, saying that she's famous just for being famous is a little bit underappreciated. She has been on Disney Channel since she was a child. A lot of us loved her in Wizards of Waverly Place, that's why she has a big fandom;)

I’ve been listening to Lana since her first album and I gotta say it, Ultraviolence was her best. The rock/grunge style fit her sooo good but she gradually got soft throughout the years and with her last three albums I found them hard to listen to since its mostly folklore/religious music. Very different from what made her appealing but all her albums sound different and she’s constantly changing her tone so I respect it and still support her.

ABSOLUTELY THIS! her older music was so different and had a touch of comedy and felt so smart in a way. the albums since nfr have been a snore (i know, such a massively unpopular opinion). that's why i was so happy with Ocean Bvd because it had some call backs to her older trip-hop/hip hop styles... hopefully, she comes back to explore this sound. i hope she does. i mean, she has explored the sad, slow monotonous ballad through a span of 4 albums. surely, she can take a break and explore alt-pop/trip hop again/or 60s style pop.

Chromatica suffered because the songs barely touched the 3 min mark. It could've been livelier if she cooked it a bit longer. I was a huge Selena fan and wanted to like Rare but it's just not it. I tried to like the album but it just pales in comparison to Revival. Like, I can sit and listen to the entire 1989 (can't wait for 1989 TV), rep and Midnights easily, I'm simply not able to do the same thing with Lover...
Like I said, there are some songs I love (Cruel Summer, Lover, The Archer, MA&THP, Cornelia Street, DBATC, False God, Afterglow, Daylight), but the rest is so... Meh
I say this a lot, but I believe Lover would've been a lot better if it was a shorter album, like 13 tracks... 18 was too much and made the album quite exhausting to listen...

And I'm sure rep will be the next re-recording after 1989 TV, praying she'll decide to announce it here in one of Brazil's Eras Tour dates in the end of November... Tbh, I actually really enjoy Rare. I think that while the title may be misleading, there's a great collection of not amazing but perfectly solid tracks like Dance Again, Cut You Off, Vulnerable, Lose You to Love Me, and especially A Sweeter Place. For me, Revival is her album that didn't age well. It feels *very* 2015 and while there aren't many awful songs on the album, the tracks feel like they could've been recorded by literally anybody at the time and come out exactly the same. Not much personality in them compared to Rare, which at least gets a bit more meat on the songs for Selena to work with

    • @ErickGoDude

When Rare first came out, the album rubbed me the wrong way bc of how it was layed out the first time, the tracklist kinda clashed and it felt rushed and like if Selena didn’t make it a priority. When she did the Deluxe and re-arranged the tracklist, i felt like it did what it needed to do to give that album another lease of life and I liked that the deluxe tracks added to what was needed.

I have to disagree with Chromatica, Manic, and Ultraviolence. I think the issue with Chromatica is that it didn’t get the right promotion. Had we had more live performances and more promotion maybe even more music videos I think the GP would absolutely love the album and it’s themes. Manic in my opinion isn’t a true pop album, it’s and Indy pop album however I do agree with what you said about it Honest. That’s the reason I like it though, she sounded great mixing all of those genres together. Ultraviolence is a timeless album there are no skips on it honestly, while I do prefer blue banister and Ocean Blvd for the maturity and artistic progression Ultraviolence projection is just timeless and she sounds great in it.

Ultraviolence has a consistency of the same theme but in different ways which is why for me it’s her best album. The entire album feels and sounds like an entire movie. For production & lyrics to the story telling and haunting vocals, it’s an album that I will forever appreciate. I think it aged extremely well since it’s her one of her albums that hit #1 and almost all tracks are going to hit 100mill streams. Hearing songs like West Coast, Brooklyn Baby, and Black Beauty feels like I’m l revisting the album for the very first time every single time.

To paraphrase what Jon from ARTV said about Taylor and Reputation: “she should be setting trends, not following them.” I understand why people like Reputation to an extent, and it’s absolutely the best example of the trend Taylor had in her pop records of the time with her deep cuts being way better than most of the singles, I’m very curious if/how that will change with the re-recording. Red, which I liked, but didn’t love initially, definitely improved for me with Taylor’s version and seeing the full picture, and Speak Now, one of her best albums imo, is also elevated in rerelease.

I’ve had my mind changed before about her albums, as noted by my comments about Red TV, and Lover has grown on me, even if it’s mostly nostalgia and realizing how truly happy she was then. I’m curious how she’ll approach things sonically…the singles like LWYMMD will likely still be grating for me, but I respect her balance of approaching her old work with a balance of trying to preserve the integrity of the original while making it work in a present-day context, and have faith she’ll do the same there. At the end of the day, like all of her discography, I think what hits and misses will be subjective.

@fsong1993 tell that to Jon from ARTV, he said it. But it’s weird that you can cite influences for everything else, but claim Reputation is original…it’s literally the one that felt most inauthentic to me, especially the singles (Delicate excepted, I love that song), and like she was just playing to the market or playing a character she was ready to slip off like a glove, and not taking something and doing it *her* way. That’s the key difference to me. I think the way she did things in other eras suited her quirky personality, like “Shake it Off” being about how she doesn’t fit in with other people…only to pivot an era later and pretend to *be* like some of the people she was trying to parody. And she strikes me as an old soul romantic, so a lot of those nostalgic eras suit her, whereas this hyper modern one didn’t. But that’s just my perspective on things.

I disagree with ultraviolence and positions. ultraviolence has aged amazingly for me especially the first half of the album it’s a timeless classic that i think will always be one of her most iconic and solidifys her as an artist. and position’s definitely isn’t arianas best album by far but i think it’s still good, i actually like it as i listen to it more. i wasn’t a big fan of it on release but i love listening to it it’s just a cute and calm album that’s not that serious. coming after thank u next her magnum opus which was very personal and vulnerable the bar was really high so i see why lots of people were disappointed by it, but positions is the end of the triology and shows ariana in a better place and healing from her past trauma which i think is so sweet, it’s definitely a comfort album for me songs like off the table, just like magic, safety net and pov are so wholesome even if the production is similar and repetitive throughout the album i kinda like it it’s a simple and cute vibe. in my opinion arianas worst aging album is definitely my everything it was only made for commercial success and nothing else, it has incredible singles but the track list is so messy and uncohesive the only world to describe it is chaotic, and i hate problem with a burning passion 😭

Personally, I loved Harry's debut! To me it was very authentic. It showed how as an artist he's been influenced by classic 60s/70s rock, but that he wanted to and was able to put his own spin on it. With the mix of rock and acoustic songs, his debut takes the listener from feeling grief to being chilled out to wanting to head bang. None of his new music is as haunting as Sign of the Times, From the Dining Table, or Ever Since New York, nor do they have the driving, energizing beats and rhythms of Kiwi or Carolina. I liked Fine Line too because you could hear the Harry Nilsson inspiration in its experimental moments. Songs like Lights Up, Cherry, She, Canyon Moon, etc. showcased his versatility and tell a story. His first two albums had the ability to speak to your soul.
I found Harry's House to be the most boring. I know there are good songs in there like Matilda and Cinema, but overall I've been disappointed with his musical progression. He's moved away from his cooler, grittier, versatile sound, back towards generic pop music that is more digestible for a wider audience. I still love his music and him as an artist, his music just doesn't have the rawness it originally did that made me really respect him and that caught my attention when he was first trying differentiate himself from One Direction. I would say if anything, Harry's debut was a very solid start and there was something there I hope he revisits in the future!

For me Taylor albums don’t really age badly at all because her pen, even on a bad day only makes bops and bops only I do think Lover and 1989 have some of her weekest writing on them. Also Shake it off and Me! Ruin 1989 and Lover respectively. Selena Gomez (Rare) : Lose You to Love Me will forever be one of her greatest and Look At Her Now is still a bop, I can see why they were the album's lead singles. But surprisingly what makes the album an underrated masterpiece is also what makes it forgettable. Somehow her wispy vocals just don't have the same staying power as in Hands To Myself, Back To You, Wolves, It Ain't Me, Good For You and Bad Liar. That said, I still think A Sweeter Place, People You Know and Fun, especially considering the subject matter, make for really cute songs from Rare.

Something in music has changed in the last decade or so. Music was amazing in the early 2000's. As we started moving into the 2010's, it started out strong but as the years went on I found less and less music that I liked in the mainstream radio. I grew up listening to the radio and loved at least 80-90% of songs most of the time. It was joyful to listen to the radio. Today I hear most new songs from Tiktok/shorts vids. There are a few that I like, and thats fine. But radio/billboard top 100 rarely seems to have anything that really hits like those songs did back in the day. There are some decent songs among the trash pile, but I feel their quality and substance is very lackluster and only lasts for a little while before the chorus gets tiresome. Like its cool let the artists that want to make tik tok sound music do that, but we need to shine more like on real quality artists. Also the legends that rocked the early 2000s and 2010s, where are youuuuu???!! They could literally have a no. 1 single in a heart beat. The people are dying for good quality music. Please put me on I can tell you what would be amazing. Please stop with the quick buck songs that aint shit. A lady gaga song should never be boring or low quality. Its GAGA. Miss paparazzi, Miss alejandro, Miss just dance, etc!!! When i was a kid growing up and listening to these songs i was so excited to go to the club XD
Buutt, Reputation had some really good songs on it. I was obsessed with " I did something bad " ahhh I think she should have taken an approach in the direction of " Haunted " if you like that song you have great taste. I loved loved her early albums, doesnt matter if its country or pop or what the fuck ever those albums has so much meaning and feelings and substance. On lana del rey, i think " Born to die " was an absolute masterpiece. like woah.... thats what i want from her albums. Like we know how amazing these artists are and i just dont understand why the quality in music has gone down. Dont get me wrong there are still some bops and shit, so thankful for those but they are almost few and far in between.

I’m right there with you! Idk if it’s just nostalgia from being in my late teens and early 20s during the early 2010s, or if the actually quality of Top 40 music is going down. But MY GOD do I miss going to the club and dancing to electro pop bangers. I miss looking forward to my favs dropping new music. I miss actually having a “song of the summer” or “song of the year” as opposed to a few viral moments for songs that last days to weeks. I miss songs that were a moment and represent certain times in my life. Music you actually enjoyed and experienced with other people. Now if feels like music is something made to be enjoyed alone, and always has a to be super deep. I know streaming and social media have a lot to do with this, but it’s so depressing to look back on and compare to what music has turned into.

The production of I Did Something Bad and Don't Blame Me on loud in the car at night, Delicates beautiful vocals, getaway car closer, dancing with our hands tied verses, DRESS? Ending it with call it what you want and New Years day is justbneautiful to me. Does rep have some mid songs to me? yea, like 2 but that's it really. I still vibe to the songs I'd call "mid" th 💀

i agree with most of these but “harry styles” to me is actually one of the best debut albums of all time. it’s very interesting, amazing instrumentals, i think it showcases his best vocals? he has a great rockn roll voice which was surprising to hear, the lyrics are good, there are absolute hard hitting songs like kiwi, only angel, carolina and then ballads like sweet creature and sign of the times which was a very brave thing to do for a debut lead single. meet me in the hallway, from the dining table and epecially ever since new york are very emotional and deeper than most songs on harry’s house. for me it’s a 10/10 album and some of his songs like lights up, she and to be so lonely touch that same vibe which i love but with his most recent album, he really stepped away from that sound which is unfortunate in my opinion. Fine Line is by far his best album melodically, lyrically, and most personal songs and lyrics. i think both hs1 and fine line will be replayed for years to come, while with harry’s house i can already see that i’m losing interest and the only “timeless” songs there for me are little freak, matilda, keep driving and daydreaming.

    2. Repuation (Absolutely Agree): This album was boring at the very first listen. It was a “woe is me” “everyone hates me” whiny album. It reminds me of the spoiled girl in school not being picked first for the first time. Compared to her previous works, reputation was awesome. I have no idea who this is someone’s favorite TS album
    3. Harry Styles (Disagree): If the only justification is “it’s not as good as his later works”, then a lot of artist would be on this list. The album still holds weight. A debut album is an artist dipping their toe in the water. The album is still very enjoyable to me, one that I enjoy revisiting.
