I just watched this series, just ... WOW. What a thing of beauty, and also you guys are true artisans. You rarely see attention to details like this these days. LOVE IT!
Supberb!, thanks SO much for sharing this project with us. Just the fact that you re-purposed the old Brigs says mountains about you. The design and build was imaginative and ingenious and the finished product a true work of art. Congratulations fellas you should be proud. Dan Schermerhorn Bradenton Fl.
You fellas ought to be mighty proud, that's fine piece of machinery. Missy and the Twins are BOTH showstoppers for sure. I'd love to see the spark plug wire run through a copper tube and the original ball weights hollowed out somehow, but heck it's brilliant regardless. I am amazed at the imagination and inspiration it took to create both of those beauties.
I'm proud of both of you it look awesome. it has the vintage look with some modern look and very clean looking. love the videos and keep them coming. I can't wait till the radial engine is done
Great job, guys. Thanks so much for the build and for documenting it so well. You have inspired me to try reviving an old hit and miss engine found settling into the tundra here in Alaska. Can't let you guys have all the fun!
Thanks for checkin' us out Mate!! I think a load would kill it!! You can't get enough power or torque outta a 2" bore and a 2" stroke!! Those wheels are about the biggest load it can handle!!☺
You said you wanted to see what it looks like without all the garbage around, then you take it outside and put it beside your trash cans.....LMAO. This is one of the coolest and most beautiful motors I've ever seen !! You two did a fantastic job !
What a project! a learning experience. and also some trial and errors. Something you can be proud of. Don't forget to sign and date the engine. as it will mean a lot later on in life! Great job!
Thanks alot Bud!! We're real proud of that one, Alotta custom one off fabricated parts were made for that one!! In reality it shouldn't really run as well as it does!!☺
nice engine , but out of all the engine you built so far . I still like the four cylinder Briggs Stratton.. I would like to see that one in a motorcycle . kind of like an inline 4 Indian looked like..... take a transmission from a BMW, and a back wheel,, and the drive shaft.. and then get a leaf spring front end . a 16 inch front wheel, and maybe a set of Fat Bob's on there ..( yeah baby ) that would be one bad looking motorcycle ,with the old four cylinder Briggs in there....
That's an awesome piece of engineering! My hats off to the both of you for creating, fabricating, and making it work. It looks great and sounds soooo sweeet!
Show stopper is the word for that....Great build guys...Loved it !....Ought to have a board with pictures of different points in the build for the people to look at as they walk by....
Very cool! I love the fabricated linkage for the governor!! That's awesome, the whole thing looks cool too. A few years ago I converted a leaf blower engine to run on steam. Recently I have been working on my own variation of a closed loop hot air engine. Single cylinder, a hot air chamber, one timed valve, and cold return line with a check valve back to the hot air chamber. Not sure if it is going to work but your video has helped inspire me to keep experimenting with it. I also would like to build one of those "flame sucker" engines, I've been messing around with an old cast iron twin cylinder compressor to see what I can do with that. Thanks for the video!!
Thanks alot Buddy!! Me and Mike discussed that!! We're thinking of getting a small Brass plaque for the side of the skid stating who built it and when!!☺
Hi guys. I know that for you guys it's been some time ago now, but what a work of art that is. While I'm not a fan of hit 'n' miss engines, I could watch this one for a long time. Thanks for a nice documentary of the build of this engine. Also, all the best to you and yours, for Christmas and the new year. Marcel, Perth Australia.
Thanks alot Bud!! We didn't think the connecting rod could handle much heavier wheels. Ya gotta remember when the momentum stops that little connecting rod has got to get both of them wheels turning from almost a complete stop!!☺
You need a very hot spark plug and two tanks, one for gas and one for kero!! When you get it running on the gas and it is nice and hot then you can switch over to the kero while it's running and it should keep running!! I have a Hit and Miss that runs on kero and that's how it came from the factory!!☺
Yeah the fins are working great!! We just had a show Sat. and it ran all day and you could put your hand on the Cylinder and the muffler without getting burned!!☺
Really glad I came across Missy and you guys, very well done !. Love the color combo, red head looks really smart, thought maybe a gold head would look ok too, but the red on the head will look great in the shed!
Thanks J.E.!! I think a load would kill it!! You can't get enough power or torque outta a 2" bore and a 2" stroke!! Those wheels are about the biggest load it can handle!!☺
Thanks John!! I think a load would kill it!! You can't get enough power or torque outta a 2" bore and a 2" stroke!! Those wheels are about the biggest load it can handle!!☺
Brilliant work, just discovered the channel, nice to see some 'old-style' mechanical work being done rather than all electronics. It just doesn't look anything like a lawnmower engine! It has that 'steam engine' feel to it, very 'factory'. Good stuff and cheers from across the pond!
Excellent! Its nice to see younger guys finding how cool hit n miss engines are. Weve got a hercules 3-1/2 and IH vertical 7-1/2. And collect/restored 23 IH tractors. Due to 6 spinal surgeries since my back blowing up im limited to what I can do. I want to begin a project like your Briggs conversion. I can get to my shop and work as I can while recovering. Im hoping for your blessing to loosely use some of your ideas with my project. I understand if you object. I felt I should ask first.
Thanks Carn!! We appreciate your support!! We desided against the black, thought it might be to distracting!! We already have alot going on up top there!!☺
Everett Mike take a bow! Just chuffed to bits this has turned out so good for you guys. With your painting experience Everett, coupled with Mikes engineering skills, you two make an awesome team. Boy is this going to create some interest at the shows this year :D Just an aside, when I rebuilt an engine in my youth, and was showing an old hand, he jokingly said '3 out of 10 for a brave effort'...meaning it was almost perfect....so that's what I'm giving you LOL.
The Hit & Missy Briggs looks and sound beautiful !! what a work of art Mike. Now ship it to my place so I can display it in my den for safe keeping...lol :)
Oh right! Just starting to check these types of engine out. They are really intriguing. I'd imagine doing something like this in the UK would be difficult parts wise as you would have to manufacture everything yourself.
Good job guys. That machine's almost too nice to actually use. I'd be tempted to run a generator w/ it since it just sips the fuel. Missy- that's pretty funny and fit's it pretty well.
Thanks alot Toes!! I had to laugh when I read your comment cause that's exactly what we did after we filmed that!! We tried 3 different size wooden balls and they were all too light. The aluminum balls were just a little too heavy so we drilled out a 7/16 hole a 1/2 deep and put a little more pressure on the spring and it worked perfect!!☺
reminds me of my carport/work area. my goped gtr has hte spot of honour. the riding mower is off to side, as is the chinese scooters, all sortsa stuff. can find everythign i need but wont win awards. your engine sir is GORGEOUS
I wonder how many guys come up at shows wondering when Briggs made a hit & miss engine. If you could find an old waterpump to couple that up to and run it at shows that would be sweet. Great job guys!
I was wondering if you took the muffler off if it would spin longer before firing because it creates back pressure in the cylinder slowing it down? runs great I would like to build one
I love the looks of this engine. It has a "Steam Punk" look about it. You fellas do really pretty work. Thanks for entertaining us.
Thanks Bud!! We appreciate you watching!!☺
That thing really is a piece of art at this point. I'd like put it on a coffee table in the middle of my living room.
Get yourself an antique grinder (the commercial size ones), and belt it to this
I just watched this series, just ... WOW. What a thing of beauty, and also you guys are true artisans. You rarely see attention to details like this these days. LOVE IT!
Mrzizzy69 Thanks alot Bud!! You'd probably like the series on our 4 cylinder build also!!☺
Supberb!, thanks SO much for sharing this project with us. Just the fact that you re-purposed the old Brigs says mountains about you. The design and build was imaginative and ingenious and the finished product a true work of art. Congratulations fellas you should be proud. Dan Schermerhorn Bradenton Fl.

Great job, guys. Thanks so much for the build and for documenting it so well. You have inspired me to try reviving an old hit and miss engine found settling into the tundra here in Alaska. Can't let you guys have all the fun!
+czillerak Thanks Bud!! That sounds cool!!☺
Thanks for checkin' us out Mate!! I think a load would kill it!! You can't get enough power or torque outta a 2" bore and a 2" stroke!! Those wheels are about the biggest load it can handle!!☺
i could sit and watch that thing putt along all day, they sure do some fine work
Well I watched all 14 videos and am impressed with what roadking and SmallEngineMechanic have accomplished. I too believe it will be a show stopper!
Thanks JB!! Yeah there is a Buzz coil and battery under the wood mount!!☺
Actually guys that color gives it that classic turn of the19th to 20th century industrial look to it.
absolutely beautiful.
You said you wanted to see what it looks like without all the garbage around, then you take it outside and put it beside your trash cans.....LMAO. This is one of the coolest and most beautiful motors I've ever seen !! You two did a fantastic job !
That engine is simply amazing! Great job guys!!
Thanks alot Bud!!☺
I just watched this again. This just blows my mind. What a bloody top lil engine that is. I'm proud of yas. cheers.
Thanks Mate!! That was our most challenging build, but also the most fun!!☺
another amazing project. congratulations guys. serious kudos to mike for engineering that governor mechanism.
Thanks Bud!!☺
What a project! a learning experience. and also some trial and errors. Something you can be proud of. Don't forget to sign and date the engine. as it will mean a lot later on in life! Great job!
Thanks Bud!!
Out of all the engines that I've seen on your channel this would definitely be the number one on my favourite list 🙂
Thanks alot Bud!! We're real proud of that one, Alotta custom one off fabricated parts were made for that one!! In reality it shouldn't really run as well as it does!!☺

I like the open valve spring box and the automatic intake valve. Nice work!
Thanks Bud!!☺
That's an awesome piece of engineering! My hats off to the both of you for creating, fabricating, and making it work. It looks great and sounds soooo sweeet!
Thanks alot Jeff!! I gotta give Mike most of the credit for the way it runs!! I had alotta ideas and input but he really Spearheaded the operation!!☺
Show stopper is the word for that....Great build guys...Loved it !....Ought to have a board with pictures of different points in the build for the people to look at as they walk by....
Would really like to see a DIY kit that I could purchase and assemble! Would also like to see this run a small generator in future video!
Very cool! I love the fabricated linkage for the governor!! That's awesome, the whole thing looks cool too. A few years ago I converted a leaf blower engine to run on steam. guys like you are a reminder that american ingenuity ain't dead. good work!
Thanks alot Bud!!☺
Thanks Jim!! I knew that 40 years of body and paint experience would come in handy some day!!☺
+Marcel Timmers Thanks alot Mate!! That is one of our favorite and more challenging builds!! Merry Christmas!!☺
Just watched your Briggs hit n miss vids from start to finish. Brilliant job, love your work!
Thanks Mate!! We appreciate you watching!!☺
Thanks alot Bud!! We didn't think the connecting rod could handle much heavier wheels. Ya gotta remember when the momentum stops that little connecting rod has got to get both of them wheels turning from almost a complete stop!!☺
love watching these videos! phenomenal work gentleman
Thanks Bud!!☺
WOW nice governor at the top. This will probably be my favorite project from you guys since I am starting to get into hit and miss engines
Doing some catch up on your videos. This is a very cool well thought out project. Thanks for sharing!
You need a very hot spark plug and two tanks, one for gas and one for kero!! Fantastic work guys!!! It's sure to be a show stopper for years to come! Cheers!!
Yeah the fins are working great!! We just had a show Sat. and it ran all day and you could put your hand on the Cylinder and the muffler without getting burned!!☺
Awesome! What a pile of work! Great updates!
Really glad I came across Missy and you guys, very well done !. Love the color combo, red head looks really smart, thought maybe a gold head would look ok too, but the red on the head will look great in the shed!
awesome job guys looks and sounds great love the decals, color looks perfect.
Thanks Trav!! From the looks of your shop I knew you would like the red!!☺
Thanks J.E.!! I think a load would kill it!! You can't get enough power or torque outta a 2" bore and a 2" stroke!! Those wheels are about the biggest load it can handle!!☺
i could watch that thing run all day :P
that is absolutely awesome dude. well done guys looks sweet!
Thanks Bud!!☺
Thanks John!! I think a load would kill it!! You can't get enough power or torque outta a 2" bore and a 2" stroke!! Those wheels are about the biggest load it can handle!!☺

Wow that looks great, loving the paint color you choose!
Thanks Fuzzy!! You've already got yourself one engineering marvel over there Mate!!☺
You and Mike do excellent work my Friend! Always love seeing your new creations come to life! Cheers!
Brilliant work, just discovered the channel, nice to see some 'old-style' mechanical work being done rather than all electronics. It just doesn't look anything like a lawnmower engine! It has that 'steam engine' feel to it, very 'factory'. Good stuff and cheers from across the pond!

Thanks Grump!! That was a fun Build!! Alotta unique challenges for both Mike and Myself!!☺
That is AWESOME!! Great work guys, runs excellent!!
Almost looks reminiscent of an old Chevy engine with the color. Looks great guys! Like a brand new Briggs & Stratton hit and miss.
Thanks alot Bud!!☺
Autozone use to mix and put any color you needed in a spray can for you. Another masterpiece

Thanks alot Shady!! Yeah it makes it fun when you can work with someone that understands and can execute any idea you come up with!!☺
That kid has some skills for sure !
Those decals are some NOS that I've had laying around for years!!☺
Thanks Kaz!! We hollowed out the aluminum balls to make them lighter and they work well so they are on there now!!☺
Thanks alot Austin!! Good luck with your project Buddy!!☺
Good job guys. That machine's almost too nice to actually use. I'd be tempted to run a generator w/ it since it just sips the fuel. Missy- that's pretty funny and fit's it pretty well.

TheNy615 Thanks Bud!!☺
"you make me proud of you" Nicest thing said to Mike in all the video's I've watched so far

Thanks alot Fox!! That's what I told Mike!! We're never gonna be able to top her, but that's not gonna stop us from trying!!☺
Looks the business! Great paint job! It will be such a show stopper you'll be able charge an admission fee :)
I wonder how many guys come up at shows wondering when Briggs made a hit & miss engine. If you could find an old waterpump to couple that up to and run it at shows that would be sweet. Great job guys!
Thanks Bud!! Yeah most people haven't got a clue what an engineering marvel this engine is!! They're all fascinated with the Twin we built!!☺
It's a gorgeous build. You and Mike make an incredible team. Any chance you're from around the Philly area?
heliarche Thanks!! Yeah Mike's from Bucks County and I'm from Burlington County!!☺
805ROADKING
Right on man. I'm not far off from you so if you ever get sick of those old engines lying around I can find them a good home!
Had to revisit Missy. Great job guys!
Thanks alot Bud!!☺
Thank you Zip!! We're working on making a 4 cylinder outta 4 singles now!!☺
My favorite engine. No doubt. Welcome Robert Hathaway! Yup it's addicting lol
Awesome beautiful build on that engine!
Thanks Bud!!☺
Thanks Bud!! That little thing might be able to handle a small Gen!!☺
Congratulations guys. Really nice job!
Thanks Bud!! We appreciate you checking us out!!☺
Thanks alot Buddy!! Each time we tweek it it gets a little better!!☺
This is so nice. Very well done to you bout for building this.
Thanks alot Tuck!! We appreciate your support!!☺
Thanks Flash!! I just got lazy, if I had pursued it a little harder I'm sure I could have found the other color!!☺
I was wondering if you took the muffler off if it would spin longer before firing because it creates back pressure in the cylinder slowing it down? runs great I would like to build one
What a great project wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A great job of de-engineering...Great stuff.
Thanks alot Confused!! We were actually able to lighten the aluminum balls enough to use them, they are on there now!!☺
That's really cool! I know this videos old, but these were some awesome build videos!
Thanks Dink!!☺
Thanks Mort!! We appreciate you watchin' Bud!!☺
