How I always pack clothes is pair of X2. jeans (or 2"pairs of shorts if travelling somewhere hot as well as 1-2 pair jeans in case they need them) 2 short sleeves and 1 long sleeve shirt (as you can put a long sleeve under the short sleeve if it gets cold) 1 light weight jumper (zip up) and 1 light weight coat and 1 warmer coat I don't bring a warm jumper as if if it really cold he'll have a long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, light weight jumper & coat on. You can also use some teddy as a pillow.

Fab video! Another tip is to print out a seat plan of the aircraft. My 8 yr old son, with ASD, managed to get lost from toilet visit during long haul flight. He was guided back by crew in floods of tears. October will be our 3rd Disney world visit. Now aged 13 and 10 😊

I am going to america this July (8 hours on board) and I am so excited! I have autism and I definitely need to bring some stuff like this in my carry on ❤ I am gonna get to the airport at least 5 hours before I board so I'm not too stressed 😅 Great tips!

Extra clothes for the adults is a fantastic tip! We always have plenty of things for the children but never think of the adults, after our first trip with my husband being sick everywhere, We now always have one carry on bag that’s just spares for everyone, including flip flops just in case.

Be aware that guaranteed seated "next to" isn't necessarily in a seat next to your child but could be across the aisle or in the seat in front of or behind too. Paying extra to choose seats or phoning the airline in advance to choose seats is worth it if this would be a problem for your children

Thanks for doing this video. We are flying to Cyprus September this year. I have son with autism he is non verbal. Think social stories will work he enjoy watching videos so may be good to show him lots of videos of airports. We are going to get special assistants at Gatwick and I heard they got sensory room. He 7 and still in nappies so I will be taking him to toilet before boarding. We decided to go to airport lounge so I hoping it won't be to noisy for him and his twin sister. Thanks for tips I have written them down. Love your videos .

Hi Rhi, fantastic vid as always! These tips would have been so helpful when I took my 1st fight as a child almost 40 years ago to NYC! My mum had to deal with my sis & by herself & some of these this really would have been beneficial, course we didn't have all the techy items back then, keep the wonderful vids coming, my sis loves watching them too xx

Thanks for this! I don’t suppose you would make a video about the toys / activities you did take on the plane for your kids?

One thing that might help if your autistic child is iffy with being touched (Even as an autistic adult I will lash out if someone touches me without warning or my consent) is to play going through security in case the child has to be frisked. I've not been on a plane very often and I'm not sure what the rules are when it comes to children setting the alarms off in the scanners (metal zips in clothing etc) being frisked but the last time I went through airport security (representing my school at an event so in full school uniform) the metal zip in my skirt set the alarm off and a female security officer had to frisk me. I'd not been on a plane since I was 8 and I was 16 then but nobody had warned me about the possibility of being frisked. The officer didn't bother to explain what was happening, just told me to stay still and started to pat me down. I was the first person through from my party so I couldn't ask a teacher what was happening and when I tried to ask what was going on I was told to be quiet so it took every ounce of 'masking' I could muster to not kick the officer where it hurt since it activated the 'fight or flight' aspect of sensory overload. What was even worse was that the first adult through security was a male teacher and the officer 'checked my skirt hem' by lifting it high enough that if I'd not had my PE. skort (think what female identifying tennis players wear) on underneath (my school only allowed a specific skirt from one shop and this skirt was fairly prone to 'Marilyn Monroe Moments' in windy weather so most of us wore our PE skorts underneath for modesty purposes) the male teacher would have had a pretty good view of what underwear I had on! Interestingly enough none of the other students' skirt zips set the scanners off. None of the adults in our party were very happy about what happened but you don't really have the right to complain or argue in an airport. I don't know if kids can even be frisked in the UK (or if they classify a 16yr old as a child or an adult) but different countries will probably have different rules about it so it might be worth pre warning children.

Hi Rhi.... we're off to Orlando Disney in June for 3 weeks 🤞 Our kids have never been on a plane...my oldest 2 will be 17 (practically adults) and the youngest is 3. Got a feeling the oldest 2 will be doing more moaning than my youngest 🤦🤣
