    I remember my first box. I was soooo nervous. Awkward. But when I got the hang of it, I was off to the races. Couldn't get enough. It smelled so good.
    My friends used to tease me at work, telling me that I wasn't supposed to try to wear it .... but try it on from time to time. Those were the days!

    I was 11 when Hellraiser came out. From the first time I saw the trailer, i knew i was going to fall in love with this film... and then Hellbound was released. I was obsessed for years in both films (only).

    I think the best part of this review is that for each box, no matter how much you enjoy the lore or are passerby... you legitimately want the reviewer to stop fondling the damn cubes.

    There is a vid on TH-cam. And the original artist tells how he made the originals for film.
    3×3 wood box and he tells the colors of stain he used.What the designs mean.And how he laid the brass etchings on and the clear.But your on your own to get the brass inlay designs manufactured.
    Its 3in × 3in for a reason.

      You can get the etched panels at a couple places if you want to assemble one yourself.

      Thank you.
      I have seen schematics printed,but the weren't the original designs.They didn't have the Beautiful Woman or the man and surgical torture tool design.
      Thanks again for the link .I will check it out.
      If I am going this far,I might as well make it a real puzzle box.
      I need to meet the Frenchman.Or Engineer if necessary.

    Hey, Seth, I just wanted to say that I've been visiting the pyramid gallery website since like 2009, and it's so cool that you have stuff from them.
    Also, I'm running a Hellraiser inspired dread one-shot with a bunch of new players next month, and that's how I came across this video.
    You've been THE inspiration for me all this years since I started DMing, so, thank you for that, and I guess I have also to wish you a Merry Christmas and a VERY Happy New Year.

    Only just stumbled across this video coming from your Call of Cthulhu reviews/overviews (great stuff, thanks for those!).
    I wanted to drop a note regarding the Scribe Configuration (because I felt very proud of myself for noticing), the Eye of Ra/Horus panel is marked with Cuneiform, the written language of Sumerians and Babylonians. I can't read them, yet, but I'll check back in a few months and see what trouble we can't kick up reading them out loud.
    I guess we can be thankful that, "It is not *hands* that summon us; it is *desire* ."

    I have a full size Austrian crystal Lament Configuration with gold leaf panels. I keep it under a glass dome like the doctor in the 2nd movie. I also have a solid aluminum model in a diamond ♦️ or Leviathan Configuration. Both were bought so long ago that I don't remember who made them.

    About your comment about the solid metal having no wood showing thru (and too intricate to cut away): If it were designed in such a way where the patterns connect (think of peninsulas instead of islands), the metal could have been printed with ink, then the metal (not covered with the ink) gets etched away via acid bath. That is how circuit boards are created (once worked in a CB factory myself).
    It would add extra expense to the process though.

    Growing up I really probably should not have watched that movie or series between 8 and 10 years old maybe that's what's wrong with me lol. But there was really no good example or copy of the Lament other than six plastic cheap panels you had to glue together. I actually got a very nice one from eBay that can be moved into another figuration. These are beautiful though. I really like his last example though. *So very interested in that craftsmanship I went to get the one the last one you showcased and it's over 600 USD lol well worth it I could swing that without breaking a sweat but that shows me your commitment to the film to the story and the box. Thank you for all the links this is great like I said I got one on eBay I'm happy with it but it's nowhere near perfection like that and it gave me this IDK I guess it filled a hole that was there because they did not have anything close to these boxes they have nowadays. I really like that move one box I'm going to have to pick one up get a nice case to keep it in the ornate work on top of the mechanism it's just flawless.

    I stumbled across this while watching your call of cthulhu videos and I was honestly curious if you had ever ran a hellraiser scenario? The reason I'm asking is that I'm currently writing a scenario where you get a group of investigators who have been linked through the contact of various puzzle boxes through out the years. I had planned to let my players describe to me the puzzle box/various Hell portal items(examples being:snow globe ,music box etc.) from their past, as well as describing to me the demon/cenobite that came for them.

    • @SSkorkowsky
      @SSkorkowsky  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I've written one, but never run it. It was going to involve the PCs learning their private investigator friend is missing. They look into his last job and it's a missing person's case about Captain Spencer. After some digging one of the PCs awakens to see their friend, now skinless, write "Help me I'm in hell" on the wall in blood before vanishing. The case would take them to the Pyramid Gallery in NYC, a weird sadomasochistic sex cult, and eventually into hell. One day I'll get to run it.

    the black ends, in the movie were the end grain of the wooden cubes, with antiqued mahogany stain over mahogany, from what ed said (guy who released the panel designs from simon,) that it was chosen due to it's lack of warping, thus best wood for making the moving boxes. so they used it for all of them, I find it interesting that for the book a solid ominous black cube worked well, but in movie form it would not really work for most people, so they changed it up for the brass and wood design. :) Also I see you don't have a diamond of leviathan, or any of the lament diamond's from the partial transformation? That on the list to get next time you can add to the collection?

    Fun fact: the original short story had a completely blank puzzle box with no designs. It was only the blood covering the box that helped the original person solve the puzzle. Then, when the cenobites showed up and revealed their true nature, the puzzle solver had to solve the puzzle again to send them back, but the cenobites cleaned the box before giving it back, making solving it a lot harder.

  • @idiocracylarper
    @idiocracylarper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey heads up if you get ahold of a real one, you can easily (but expensively) check it to see if it's real. An actual functional hell portal puzzlebox will NOT let you photograph it, coincidentally your camera will always break or malfunction or there will be a factory defect in the film. You simply cannot produce a 1 to 1 photographic depiction of a real box. The one exception to this is a Polaroid camera. The camera still breaks (quite dramatically in some cases) but the photo survives, and then the photo can be scanned or copied or whatever as usual.

    Many years ago, I bought one of the resin kits from Screamin, but I've never put it together. For a cheap kit, it WOULD look nice, if they hadn't screwed up the gold plating on a couple of the sides. Some of the sides look very nice and a couple of them, the plating was put on so heavily that it filled in all the small holes in the design. I can also see bit of it flaying off in the bag. I couldn't think of a good way to remove the excess, so it's just sat on the shelf since I bought it. :(
    As for the Lament Configuration, the easiest way to tell if the top and bottom are unique is to look at the lines across the four points in the center circles. If the panels are unique, the lines on one side will go straight across each of the points and the lines on the other will be at a slight angle, like the threads of a screw.

    The music score on the omega facets may be the Hungarian Suicide Song--a genuine artiicle and a curiosity in the world of musical composition. Check it out!

    Your collection is lovely. I wish I could afford some of the really expensive looking ones like yours but also they are hard to get in england. I have 2 working lament configurations, one static wooden one but unlike yours it is hollow, a copy of the Leviathan configuration based on that of Hellraiser 2, One as a rubix cube based on the Hellraiser 3 configuration, 4 homemade in varying different styles and quality as I like to experiment, one box with only the top patterned in the style deplicting the schetrum of the vamacharins and have just ordered a second hand lament box which has yet to arrive. Do you have any advice on good versions that are in affordable range or purchasable in england to add to my collection?
