FINALLY! Someone who actually knows how to expain and educate their audience about a (sony) product and with some worthwhile criticism! Great review sir! Great review!
I bought this phone this week and It will arrive next week. I wanted a smaller phone with good battery life. The camera is a bonus. A smaller screen should give me a very long standby battery life. The right-angle corners are a concern as they will probably put a square wear mark on my front jeans' pockets. Matt grey is nice as it matches my ThinkPad. I remember a similar phone was used in one of the James Bond movies a few years ago. It is more convenient and professional-looking to use a smaller phone. It only has Android 7.1. I was also considering a Google Pixel 1 to get Android 10 but Z5 seems like better overall phone.
i actualkly wish this model had slightly more roundedleft n right side. Not a drastic change ,just slightly more rounded. That newer Experia has a look that makes you want to hold it ha. Just looks so cool. This does too but thios one tends to have a slight Box look.
Thanks for the comments. Difficult, 2 different operating systems. The SE has some design advantages and a good range of accessories, but a bit more flexibility on what you can do with the Z5 Compact.
Clove Technology pleasure was all mine. Yeah, that's the reason even i'm confused. Really hard to pick one between the operating systems. I didn't get the flexibility point, actually. By flexibility, you actually mean....? I'd prefer a overall smooth device with minimal lags and stutters and day to day usage, good multitasking experience and an overall decent to excellent camera.
I dont know what kind of multitasking you will be doing, but I would suggest the iPhone SE for minimal lags and having a better camera. The iPhone takes pictures much faster. But if you are an android fan and want a current compact phone that isn't huge, get the Z5C.
Great review, I am going to buy one of these to see how I get on, I find my iPhone 6S too big even if it is thin, also I miss Android and the Z5 Compact can be had for around £350 now!
+Simon Šelih Unless it’s recently been used, it generally takes a couple of seconds to load the camera app, from the camera button press or app icon, followed by another second or two after capturing an image to save it. This is in stark contrast to Samsung and Apple who can have you into their apps in about a second, then freely snapping multiple images with seemingly little processing time.
+Clove Technology think software update made it faster. And the new X line will be superb with qnovo battery tech. i think people don't realize but sony has been making better phones then the competition since the xperia line came out. Samsung had cheap plastic prior to the s6 and even the s6 was too gimicky for its price. Sony is underrated, and they are ahead of the curve when compared to otherse. Also, you're wrong about the softare. It's always been stock and it still.
I noticed the home weather widget taking a second to pop up when scrolling the home screens back and forth. This is a bit troublesome because I've heard of lag. Mine is on the way and I'm already nervous on performance and may just send back
I would recommend a launcher like nova launcher, the home screen on my z3c would stutter (just barely noticeable) and I started using a launcher and it completely went away.
+B Fuller (Live4theApex) Ha I recieved my phone 2 days ago and that's exactly what I did. Using Nova and I'm happy to report that this phone is pretty much better than my z3c in every way including speed! BTW I'm in the US and wanted to thank Clove Technology for the good communication throughout the process!
Which phone is better... Z5 compact or xcompact? I need a good camera and good performance without a phone when it getting hot. Sorry for my english. Greetings from Italy
Damn... this is what the XZ1 Compact should have looked liked.. instead its got horrible sharp corners that dig into your hand and the volume button edges are almost knife sharp and dig right in to your finger.....
+comedyman112 the difference is negligible I read several vs reviews and the majority of them said that BC its only 720p they didn't notice a differemce, I like the design more and I saved a bit. but don't get me wrong the z5 offers better colors and if it was thinner that's the one I would've gone with.
It's not impressive that there's no bump. And that is because those bumps are there because of OIS, something Sony keeps refusing to add to their phones precisely for aesthetic reasons, thus making the camera inferior to the competition.
+David Baptista da Silva According to dxomark the Z5's camera is not inferior at all. On the contrary. In terms of video stabilisation steady shot is often even superior to OIS. And when there is no real isue whithout OIS, I'll take the cleaner look every day!
Kosh Narale dxomark is a joke. That much is pretty much common knowledge. Their "results" are as reliable as a bridge of spit. SteadyShot is great for video. Except the majority of people don't shoot video on their phones. But they take a lot of photos. OIS is just not replaceable on a phone camera. And there ARE issues due to the lack of OIS. Try to take a photo in low light with an Xperia and you'll see everything turn to crap.
+David Baptista da Silva Yea, right! ;-) They test cameras and lenses only since 2003. What can they know compared to you, right? ;-) OIS on a smartphone is only in part helpful due to the fakt that you have at best a three-axis-stabilisation. Most of the time even just two! Combined with the way you actually take the picture on most phones, by taping the screen and creating a camera shake back to front, somthing even a three-axis-stabilisation can't cmpensate, OIS is more of a placebo. Oh, and I have a Z2! ;-)
Kosh Narale They could compare them since 1950. It doesn't make them reliable. They'll say whatever they get paid to say. The fact that, for example, they put a Motorola phone ahead of a Nokia Lumia is enough to shout "fraud!" loud and clear. Because there's no one on this God's green earth that will say a Moto X has a better camera than a Nokia Lumia. OIS on a phone, regardless of the number of axis available, is still better than no OIS at all. Minimum stabilisation works better than no stabilisation at all. Oh ,and I have a Z3C. I know how shitty Sony cameras are on Xperias. I also have a G4 which uses Sony sensors and lenses but with good software and OIS. The G4 beats the sh*t out of the Xperia. And it will also beat the Z5, I'm absolutely sure.
+Burned You're right. The G4 is way ahead of the Z5. And I don't need a youtube video to know it, I can see it for myself as I have both phones (well...actually not anymore. I sold the Z5 again after a week).
FINALLY!

Mazin Bashar If you're on a budget, just get a 5S. Its the same crap and my girlfriend currently uses it with no issues.
I'm a bit late to the show here but excellent work !!!
Thank you.

its now 130$..
Very awesome review ever
fucking excellent review
Great Review!
great video
how fast is the camera app? in general

+Bill Fowler Thanks for the comments.
What's his name? And his social network?
is this phone still worth it in 2017.. im looking for a compact phones nothing bigger then 4.7" screen
Its a good phone. There is the newer XZ Compact though.
if people are on a budget the Z5 Compact is the best choice
Which phone is better... Z5 compact or xcompact? I need a good camera and good performance without a phone when it getting hot.
Sorry for my english. Greetings from Italy
Z5 compact is waayy better man. the processor is super powerful
No subtitle anymore?
Damn... this is what the XZ1 Compact should have looked liked.. instead its got horrible sharp corners that dig into your hand and the volume button edges are almost knife sharp and dig right in to your finger.....
the Z5C is 720p and Z5 is 1080 that means Z5 is better?
It just means a higher resolution. Yes more detail, but more battery drain as a result. Depends on your preferences.
Best review ever! 😂
+Mr.A7 Thanks for such positive feedback.
Has anyone tested heaphone audio quality
its probably one of the best
the matte back glass easily gets scratched, just make it plastic.
it doesn't it's great
I miss my z3c. I'm using a oneplus 2 and its too big.
Feel you, man. I'm using a oneplus one and want a smaller z5c :(
+comedyman112 sold my oneplus 2 and rebought a z3c 😀
yeah but z3c is slower in terms of cpu :< hope you are ok with this :D
+comedyman112 the difference is negligible I read several vs reviews and the majority of them said that BC its only 720p they didn't notice a differemce, I like the design more and I saved a bit. but don't get me wrong the z5 offers better colors and if it was thinner that's the one I would've gone with.
+B Fuller (Live4theApex) I'm glad you're happy with your purchase. Looking forward to get a z5c in the future.
Did someone speed up the audio?!
no
Let me know when it sells for £250 I'll buy two.
it costs now 100$-130$..

this phone wouldve been perfect if it was thick as a brick.
there's not much of a difference.. its not a big deall.. i find it easier to use then the slim iphones that keep slippping outta my hand
Nice review, no stutters or mistakes. Damn impressive.
you posted this twice.
