Short movie idea. Natsuki is a fugitive and has been on the run for 30 years. His past life as a leader of the a punk rock bosozoku gang finally starts to catch up with him after a man from his past comes knocking on his salon's door. Panicked Natsuki packs up the K car and heads to Mt Aso to finally make amends. Abroad in Japan presents a Patreon backed film 'The Last Cigarette' starring Natsuki the man
I recently went to Japan and after emptying my wallet for a wagyu steak, I decided to get a more affordable dessert at a konbini nearby. Pursuing the isles, I was pleasantly surprised to find Coolish ice-cream. This podcast is the only way I knew such a glorious frozen treat even existed. Pete, thanks for being the unofficial Coolish spokesperson. It certainly lived up to the hype. Any chance we can get some more Coolish content?
When I and my husband were visiting Japan for a month back in 2017, I was lucky enough to experience the lovely hospitality of Japan twice. Once in Kyoto(at the golden pavilion, right before closing time) as we were leaving, I went to the bathroom and forgot my camera hanging on the bathroom door. Thankfully just a little ways down the road I realized that I had left it, sprinted back, and frantically explained to the line of waiting elementary students in line for the bathroom that I just needed to check for my camera, only for a nice student to wave me down and run with me back to the souvenir desk, where they had already turned in my camera as a lost item. It was no trouble to get my camera back(it looks like they just skimmed through a few of my photos until they saw me in them, then they gave my camera back) I was so thankful to the students who had turned it in. And then near the end o my trip when I was shopping in an Animate in sunshine city, when I went to pay on the like 7th floor I accidentally dropped my pasimo card (which is practically just like dropping money on the ground) once again, thankfully as we were walking back to the train station I noticed it was missing, which led to a whole lot of running back to the store and all the way up to the 7th floor to check if I dropped it there. I went to the cash and asked if they had found a pasimo card(very out of breath and looking frantic at this point), and they said they had and gave it back to me and apologized for the trouble! I just couldn’t believe it and kept thanking them for returning it to me. Really everyone is just so nice. (I did also help return some dropped school books earlier in my trip to some school students who were running around kyoto castle, so I did feel like I got to return some of the goodwill I was given during my trip, but still just so thankful nobody just picked up either my camera or pasimo card and just kept it for themselves as they both were fairly valuable)
Dear Cokrot Chris and Punypenis Pete In the heart of rural Japan, I embarked on a humorous quest to teach English to a group of lively middle schoolers. One day, aiming to enlighten them with animal vocabulary, I found myself performing a series of animal sounds, from 'meows' to 'woofs.' The real comedy unfolded when my attempt at a rooster's crow sounded more like a distress signal, sending the classroom into uncontrollable laughter. The crowning moment, however, was my attempt to mimic a cow, which somehow translated into a passionate declaration of love for vegetables in Japanese, earning me the nickname "Vegetable Lover" among the students. This linguistic slip turned into an enduring source of amusement and a memorable lesson in the unpredictable joys of language teaching. So, have you ever faced a hilarious language mix-up or cultural misunderstanding that left you laughing and learned? A moment where miscommunication turned into an unexpected bonding experience? RONALD, Hong Kong
I handed in a forgotten bag of souvenirs I found in Tokyo Skytree over to security and the process took a lot longer than I'd anticipated. Luckily I was leaving Japan the following morning and understood just enough Japanese to communicate that fact and turn down any possible reward.
Not a question but just a comment. As someone who has always wanted to travel, nit just Japan but the world. My life not really being smooth I've never been able too. Layoffs and problems in life sapping any travel savings I end up having. Thank you, for the videos, content, and podcasts for having a way of seeing more of the world.
I would imagine the thinking behind the ribbon on the phone is "the owner is probably having a crappy day, having lost their phone and frantically searching for it. Let's do something nice and wrap it in a ribbon so they feel better about it".
New angle looks good for the camera 👌. Also, I remember you saying something about looking younger with longer hair, and I think you might be on to something with that.
Happy to hear Chris is playing Ghost of Tsushima! I love that game! I cleared the entire southern map of quests and then something happened in the game that depressed the hell out of me and I had to take a bit of a break from it 😅 Gotta finish it sometime though! Beautiful game.
There are a few plot points that do hit you hard emotionally, but it is certainly worth finishing. IMO, it is one of the best game of the PS4 generation and probably the best game set in historical Japan (even if it is pretty anachronistic, presenting an iconic feudal Japan rather than an accurate one)
As I understand, the developers represented the geography of the island quite well. There are videos here comparing the real world locations to their in-game counterparts and it is striking how close the designers got it.
This is one of my favourite podcasts, just the right length and you cover a lot of new and interesting things in each episode. It's interesting to hear about that asshole JET, I'm applying this Autumn and read on the subreddit about a similar situation someone went through recently, wherein the predecessor JET upsold their stuff to them for an inflated price and employed some scare tactics to do so.
I think the idea of a film is great! Natsuke maybe the man for the role. Maybe you can do it! I did watch Joey talking about this topic last week. I also watched Conner's live stream of the skiing trip and really enjoyed it. I look forward to your next project.
Although what Satoshi Kirishima did was horrific, you gotta give the guy his credit, him telling the doctors on his death bed who he really is was the ultimate screw you.
Chris- you should write a novel based on your predecessor at the school. It sounds interesting enough that I think it would make a great movie! Probably a dark comedy.
I think it's worth providing context that the people responsible for this bombing called the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plant *twice* with the intent of having them evacuate the factory and it was disregarded as a hoax, they clearly didn't want civillians killed they were trying to destroy a factory that produced vehicles used by the US Army in the Vietnam war. While I think we can all agree that what they did was wrong (as did they themselves, after having been caught) I do think people are quite quick to leave out this detail, it's not like they did the most deadly terrorist attack in Japanese history at that point because they were trying to wrack up a high score or something.
There is technically not even any proof he ever killed anyone anyways. His crimes solely surround property damage against large corporations and institutions
Last March I left my wedding ring at a restaurant in Osaka. I took it off and didn’t realize I didn’t put it back on until we got back to our hotel …. queue heart attack. We couldn’t get to the restaurant until the following evening because of events we had booked. The staff had it wrapped up so delicately. We spent a good 2 minutes bowing and thanking them. My husband wanted to murder me.
Bringing found items to the police... I've done it THREE times... all of them wallets. It is insane. You have to sit with the police while they empty the contents and write down EXACTLY what is inside and then double check everything. It takes a very long time. First time I got cookies hanging on my apartment door (a bit of a privacy invasion there unless the police did it for her). Second time I got the wallet and its contents after 6 months. Third time I didn't hear anything.
This is my inner cynic talking, but that Kyoto phone incident could have been a case of the legendary Kyoto passive-aggression. You know, like when they tell you "hey, that's a nice watch you're wearing" and what they really mean is "LOOK AT YOUR WATCH IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO LEAVE BECAUSE I CAN'T STAND BEING AROUND YOU A MINUTE LONGER". In this case the subtext could possibly have been "You caused us so much trouble looking for the owner of the phone, we figured it was no trouble at all by comparison to WRAP IT UP IN A BOW".
This is the quintessential "hiding in plain sight, catch me if you can." I don't know if this speaks to the capabilities or lack thereof of the police force in Japan or if people here just don't really care that if it's not on their door step then it doesn't affect them. Dissociation and compartmentalization.
At a guess, whatever he did in earlier days of hiding/fleeing, he just went where no one knew him, stopped doing any crimes or political activity, and blended in wih people no one pays much attention to anyway. In this case, day laborers.
Hi punctual Pete & carnivore Chris have a few titles for that criminal’s movie. Japan’s most wanted, Within plain sight, Too hard to Catch or The fundamentalist. I love the podcast Guys keep up the great work Sincerely your neighbourhood black man Warren
6:26 been to couple dozen hotels in japan in past year or so, some places wanted to photocopy my passport but don't think I ever filled any forms, guess it pays to use online reservation sites
Suddenly leaving to HongKong out of nowhere? That's straight out of Shenmue. Was this "Roy" guy actually Ryo Hazuki trying to avenge the death of his father or something?
Did play poker around 2 years with tattooed guy that was missing tip off he's finger. Sometimes drunk players would joke with him about mafia because tattoos and missing finger. One day reading news see he was arrested by Interpol on pretty old case.

I always thought that terrorist guy on the wanted posters looked like one of my former co-workers. Any time I saw it in a station or something, I'd always give it a bit of a side-eye.
Japanese Ryokans ask for a minimum of 2 people per room because they charge per person, not per room. It could affect the traveler because the ryokan may reject their stay or charge them double to make up for the loss.
I'm currently holidaying in Okinawa and it looks like everyone working in customer service is still wearing a mask. Tourists not many are wearing them. Locals: older people wearing them mostly, younger people not much.
First time we saw the wanted poster of Kirishima we thought it was a woman and Google Translate basically said he was wanted for having exceeded the legal amount of explosive matter one can possess. I mean, we laughed 😂. The other pictures were all way more angry and ruffian-like.😆
The best twist to the most wanted story is if the post-mortem DNA test proved the bloke who died had merely claimed to be the criminal rather than a bus driver or salaryman.
Now that you're a super cool gamer, you gotta go for that Gamer Sups sponsorship. Get your very own waifu cup and fill it with "anime girl thighs" flavored drink.
Well they dident catch him he went to hospital and confesed beacuse he dident want to die with that on his conscience. But has he never said anything he would have got away with it
Wow, your predecessor sounds like a real prick. I can’t imagine doing anything like that. Kinda makes me wonder about the selection process. I think most JETs are good people, but there are a few who you have to wonder how they were chosen. I guess maybe they’ve good at faking it. Dear C#nty Chris and Pricky Pete Venturing into Tokyo's electric heart, Akihabara, I stumbled upon a VR café, a digital oasis amidst the urban desert. There, I was catapulted into a virtual feudal Japan, a realm of ethereal sakura and shimmering horizons. With a virtual katana in hand, I engaged in a ballet of blades, a dance that pushed the limits of my senses and perception. This encounter, a duel of bytes rather than brawn, left me contemplating the fluid line between reality and the digital mirage. I wouldn't say he was caught. It was more like he was gloating that he had won. Like 'I am gonna be dead in the next few hours? What worse can you do?' It was more like he confessed.
I was in Otaru, Hokkaido, back in the early 1990's and lost my wallet. I had just gotten paid and had my whole paycheck in my wallet. I was heartbroken because (a) I didn't make a whole lot of money at the time and (b) I wanted to use that money to go exploring. I had to work the following day and the Japanese police showed up looking for me. Everything was in my wallet but 5,000 yen. I was told it was something like a reward that was given to the person who found it. I couldn't have cared less, I was so happy just to have my wallet (and most of my money) back.

'The Last Cigarette' starring Natsuki the man
I would watch this 😂
Natsuki the mastermind bank robber has been laying low for decades.... Then had too much volcano!
True evil, you know this because he has a volcano lair.
This!!!
“Yonige”starring Natsuki

Great podcast episode, as expected from Abroad in Japan!
Without actually being in Japan.
Chris: "I'm quite good at not forgetting things."
Cut to Sharla, still on the side of the road at a combini in north Japan, in the rain...
Well done guys ... was this the first synchronised release across TH-cam and podcast platforms? Well done indeed. Keep up the great work 😁👍
It was a big story last January. DNA points that he is related to Kirishima's living relatives, making the dead man's claim to be very likely.
Please Recreate some iconic ghost of Tsushima scenes with natsuki!
Headed to Taiwan to TEFL in two weeks, thanks for the tip? Second-hand stores only I guess.
You should totally go to Tsushima to live your new love for Ghost of Tsushima!
After you beat it, of course, you wouldn't want to spoil it

Pete, the Crystal Maze was rebooted a few years ago with Richard Ayoade. I enjoyed it very much.
Great podcast as always! Only thing that annoys me is the laptop covering up part of the camera! :P
There is a Fart Ave near Helsinki Finland. There are several assfart avenues in different locations.
Kinda wish that Chris would talk about that story regarding that guy. Would be interesting to hear
I think the idea of a film is great! Natsuke maybe the man for the role. Maybe you can do it! I did watch Joey talking about this topic last week. I also watched Conner's live stream of the skiing trip and really enjoyed it. I look forward to your next project.
I'm going to Tsushima in a few weeks. I love that it is a place that few tourists go to
Can’t lie, I’d REALLY love to see either Pete or Chris get an interview on MKs Last Meals 😍
Although what Satoshi Kirishima did was horrific, you gotta give the guy his credit, him telling the doctors on his death bed who he really is was the ultimate screw you.
The Heisenberg “I won” moment
Is it even confirmed that he killed anyone? All we know is that he committed large amounts of property damage.
Chris- you should write a novel based on your predecessor at the school. It sounds interesting enough that I think it would make a great movie! Probably a dark comedy.
What put me off skiing is that our instructor had lost their arm in a skiing accident.
That's not a good skiing advertisement is it 😂

I need to see more about Satoshi Kirishima like events. Please recommend any videos/info you have seen Chris and Pete! cheers
The idea of retiring in Japan as Koban cop in residential area. Love it
Chris should do a trip to Tsushima.
Seeing the video version is SO STRANGE. Haha, I feel like I entered another dimension

I always find it remarkable how anal-retentive the Japanese are for paperwork and organization. It really seems like a bureaucrat's heaven.
Peter is wearing the most amazing shirt I've ever seen. I wish I could buy that shirt. 😎👍
Skiing lessons and a violin exam, is Pete the poshest Poolie ever??

how did I not know there's a podcast almost 50 episodes later 😭😭
It's been going for much longer than that, these are just the episodes that are on TH-cam, but you can find 500+ episodes on iTunes, Spotify etc
Chris, these are too short to be a podcast. Give us a cheeky 20 minutes more, would ya?!
Chris-san, you look like young Terry Wogan and just as great a broadcaster

There's an area of Huddersfield called Fartown, think that might be as close as Pete can get to his dream of living in Fart Avenue
Suddenly leaving to HongKong out of nowhere? That's straight out of Shenmue. Was this "Roy" guy actually Ryo Hazuki trying to avenge the death of his father or something?
They should name the movie “the gingerbread man”. Either that or “hahahahahaha you lose”
Holy shit. I always saw that picture the 7 years I lived in Japan. I had no idea how big a deal this was
Aye I like being early for once. TH-cam keeps showing me videos days later.😅
Did play poker around 2 years with tattooed guy that was missing tip off he's finger. Sometimes drunk players would joke with him about mafia because tattoos and missing finger. One day reading news see he was arrested by Interpol on pretty old case.
You gents out here talking about Fart Avenue while I actually live on Hooker Street. 😅
THIS IS LIKE A BLOODY FILM?!
Chris did you forget that you did in fact write about Roy in the book lol

I prefer the old angle for the Chris Cam
I love Pete’s wall of otomaphones
Zat rilly Christoph Walken at the beginning ?
I always thought that terrorist guy on the wanted posters looked like one of my former co-workers. Any time I saw it in a station or something, I'd always give it a bit of a side-eye.
Chris you must try playing Warframe and visit Fortuna its all about your favorite themes like neon lights and cybernetic people there.
Chris is gaming now? 😭 damnit they got him. Next thing you know he is gonna start saying words like….. “riz” and … “based” hahahaha
Film name Silent Shadows: The Untold Story of a Japanese Bomber
Well now its time for you to visit Tsushima Island
Which Final Fantasy on the playstation 1? FF7? FF8? FF9? FF-Tactics? FF-Chronicles? FF-Origins?
Japanese Ryokans ask for a minimum of 2 people per room because they charge per person, not per room. It could affect the traveler because the ryokan may reject their stay or charge them double to make up for the loss.
I'm currently holidaying in Okinawa and it looks like everyone working in customer service is still wearing a mask. Tourists not many are wearing them. Locals: older people wearing them mostly, younger people not much.
The other 9 members are probably on Fart avenue, eating candy!
In Ryokans you pay per person, not per room, so Pete is wrong claiming that the hotel would be happy and the staff would have less work.
In my town there is a (bogside) close to fart avenue 😅
The first story made me laugh as I’m 5’10” and 275lbs, I couldn’t fit in a lot of places in Japan😂
Lose some weight.
Chris crackfurtler and Pete pelviswarmer. ❤
Any mention of like DNA tests or teeth records or anything to prove the old man is the young man from the picture?
The Hair & Eyeglass Style is back "IN" again. Interestingly enough......Oh, American Construction Companies generally pay Cash In Hand Too !
Pete's toilet gag was hilarious 😂
Now that you're a super cool gamer, you gotta go for that Gamer Sups sponsorship. Get your very own waifu cup and fill it with "anime girl thighs" flavored drink.
Fun fact. You can visit a Japanese imperial shitter at Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama. 😂
Embracing the bohemian look, then
Well they dident catch him he went to hospital and confesed beacuse he dident want to die with that on his conscience. But has he never said anything he would have got away with it
He was not caught by police he gave himself up and died before he was caught by Police.
The devils are doing great Chris!

“I’m your host Chris Bored!”
Not actually " Caught"
Is Pete just scrambling the video vs podcast schedules? He's confusing me.
Cockshot road I believe is a U.K. road 🎉
Dear C#nty Chris and Pricky Pete
Venturing into Tokyo's electric heart, Akihabara, I stumbled upon a VR café, a digital oasis amidst the urban desert. There, I was catapulted into a virtual feudal Japan, a realm of ethereal sakura and shimmering horizons. My guide, a digital samurai, challenged me to a duel that blurred the boundaries of the virtual and the real. With a virtual katana in hand, I engaged in a ballet of blades, a dance that pushed the limits of my senses and perception. This encounter, a duel of bytes rather than brawn, left me contemplating the fluid line between reality and the digital mirage. It was an exploration of perception, a test of valor not against flesh, but against the fabric of the virtual itself.I wonder, have you ever found yourselves lost in an experience where the digital world felt as palpable as the physical, where the lines of reality were not just blurred but seemingly erased?

I was in Otaru, Hokkaido, back in the early 1990's and lost my wallet. I had just gotten paid and had my whole paycheck in my wallet. I was heartbroken because (a) I didn't make a whole lot of money at the time and (b) I wanted to use that money to go exploring. I had to work the following day and the Japanese police showed up looking for me. Everything was in my wallet but 5,000 yen. I was told it was something like a reward that was given to the person who found it. I couldn't have cared less, I was so happy just to have my wallet (and most of my money) back.
Im sorry but, I find it boring with this new thing with P.D.in every episode . Too much time with him, please reduce the time frame.
