Panic! At the Disco released its debut studio album ‘A Fever You Can't Sweat Out’ in 2005, which became certified double platinum in the US. Following in 2008, the band's album ‘Pretty. Odd.’ marked a significant departure from the band’s debut sound. 2011 brought the band’s 3rd album ‘Vices & Virtues’, which featured “The Ballad of Mona Lisa” and spent 10 consecutive weeks on the iTunes “Top Alternative Songs” chart. In 2013, the band released the album ‘Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!’, featuring “This Is Gospel”. Panic’s 2016 album ‘Death of a Bachelor’ spawned hits like the gold certified track "Hallelujah”. Most recently, the band released "Say Amen (Saturday Night)", the lead single from the 2018 studio album ‘Pray for the Wicked’.

+Brendon Urie Huh. I've been listening to this and identifying with it because I'm trans, but I'm FTM, which flips the entire meaning of the song. In particular, the line "Boys will be boys hiding in estrogen" goes from awesome to horrible very quickly.
If this is any indication of the point of view of the book, I think I'll pass on reading it. Though I'll decide to intentionally misinterpret this song to suit myself, because it's fun to listen to. :D

the trans character doesn't necessarily view herself as a woman and transitioned for superficial reasons. so she technically is a "boy hiding in estrogen". hiding her past self and whatever with a new identity, totally separate from the "old" her where she lived in tragedy, compared to her new one where she lives in the spotlight, in a new shade of tragedy. hope that helps some :0

For those of you who want to know, "Aubergine Dreams" is a reference to the book that this song is heavily based off of, "Invisible Monsters." "Aubergine Dreams" is the kind of Eye pencil that one of the main characters use.

Another fun fact, the book is by Chuck Palahniuk, an author who was referenced again in this album with the song “The Only Difference Between Suicide and Martyrdom is Press Coverage”. The title is a direct quote from his novel, Survivor.

I've never read the book but I always found this song fascinating. I love the idea of "musical fan art" and I wish more musicians would take the opportunity to make unabashed tributes to things they like. 👍
This album is a complete masterpiece, beginning to end. How else can I describe this? I've never (and am yet to) hear anything like this. I'm so honored to have this album enter my teen years, because it definitely changed me forever.
