Oh my gosh, watched this video, and a couple others for comparison, and believe me...DO IT YOURSELF!!! Had to get it done today as this weekend in Denver doesn't get above 5degrees. It is SO easy. I decided to time it. 14 minutes from the time I stepped in the garage, got my 10mm socket wrench, moved our stuff and everything to get to the battery, switched it out and put everything back in it's place. I removed/replaced in this order, when I got to the battery. Removed hold-down strap, Neg cable, Pos cable, Vent tube, battery. Replaced battery, vent tube, Pos, Neg, Hold-down strap. EVERYthing completed in 14 minutes! Thanks thecollegepicker!!!!
Some videos show that they remove battery temperature sensor wiring but here as I see three was no need to touch it, very easy and saves lots of unnecessary movements, thanks a lot.
Very easy to follow for someone who has never changed one before!(me) was going to be late to work if this didn’t work thank you so much made it to work on time and even had time to eat breakfast!!! Thank God for you!!!
This was a great educational video on how to Replace the 12-volt battery in Toyota Prius (2010-2015) I look forward to more educational videos from you.
If there is no error code, could it be a winter problem? I sometimes get a start or have to troubleshoot a bit, eventually it starts no jump. Oddly enough it starts in EV mode every time. Why?
Went to a local Toyota dealer recently for an estimate on replacing the starter battery in my 2014 Prius V. They wanted $300+ for a new battery and $300+ for labor. When I asked about the exorbitant labor charges they indicated that (according to their book) it takes HOURS to swap out the starter battery. And when confronted with this obvious error they just shrugged and said we have to bill by the book. So at that point I obviously walked away never to return. Later that day, I bought the beast/highest rated battery I could find from a national auto parts store for $200 and 15 minutes later had it installed and running. Follow-up tip: When recharging an installed battery, only remove the RED terminal from it (i.e., disconnecting the car from the battery) before connecting the charging clips as the car's electrical system interferes with charging. You do not need to disconnect the green ground wire. Morale of the story, NEVER take your car to a Dealer for minor things like this. Think of all the not so 'car repair smart' people out there that have been ripped off by dealers dishonest tactics over the years.
This would be lovely. I just found that my Prius 2014 the battery was dead tonight 😢. This Video give me some hope that I can do it myself because, I have really a limited amount of money 😅. ( the link doesn’t work for me by the way)
I do think you should mention that you may have to drive the Prius for around 25 miles to get the electronics to stabilize immediately after new battery installation.
@thecollegepicker hydrogen will be vented into the confined space in the trunk and any sparks from the charging process can ignite the gas. Like der Hindenburg. That's why there's a vent tube on the right batteries -- to vent the gas outside the car safely away from any ignition source.
Per the manufacturer - When used with a properly regulated constant voltage charging system (such as an alternator), the OPTIMA will not emit hydrogen gas.

Glad you got it fixed up fast!

You are welcome. I never even knew there was a temp sensor there.

Thanks for watching 🤝
I saw the link to the Amazon product but I can’t find it could you please send me the name of the battery?
good video, but I'm curious what you do with the old battery if you buy one from Amazon like this
An Autozone or O'Reilly will recycle it for you for free.
Great video Eric!
Look forward to many more prius videos!
Keep grinding with the business!!
You are very welcome.
Hey so im removing the old battery and getting some sparks around the negative connection is this normal? Im using a metal wrench

what if the vent hose goes down the hole? am I screwed? thank you

Do you know what happened if you don’t drive it for that 25 miles? I wonder if the car will die next day.
@@LVFantasy yes the car won’t start the next time you go to start it. Of course we had a 2011 model and this was our experience.
does that work for 2001 prius ? I m not sure which battery to buy
Thank you! Worked like a charm.
After changing the 12V battery, now the engine always works, it does not switch to the hybrid battery, what's wrong?
Hi did you figure out why it doesn't work. I just put a new battery in and it will not start
The links doesn't work and you didn't name the type of battery ???
Company is called Optima and product is Yellow Top Battery. You can search 'optima yellow top battery prius' and find options to buy one.
He said it was an optima yellow top from Amazon
Lmao 🤣 cornball
There is no special battery. It takes a regular battery from Walmart or where ever
OPTIMA Batteries High Performance DS46B24R YellowTop Dual Purpose Sealed AGM Car, Truck and SUV Battery, 450 CCA, Maintenance Free, Versitile Mounting, Fits Select Prius Models
Thanks you for the video. Your battery link doesn't work.
anong replace battary do you use backup battary ?
Helpful as always 🔥
Appreciate it!
I wish I could find my daughter a Prius
Craigslist and FBM 💪
When you find one, check the head gasket and coolant reservoir.
how come i didn’t see the “ready” on dash?!?😮.
Does it NEED a $300 battery?
No.
Stick to the recommended 16v aux battery, if you don't like surprises. The vent hose is there for a reason
They are 16v?
I meant the 12v but was referring to the yuasa battery with the vent hose like the s46b24r as recommended
@@bluesteele2235 oh okay. These yellow top sealed batteries don't require venting l so its a great cost effective alternative.
Do yourself a favor n buy your battery online through toyota dealership if its allowed.
Nice
🙏
U picked the wrong battery; it needs the vent kind.
They both work.
I am not convinced that and AGM battery off gases the same way as a flooded lead acid battery. @@chilenitonuma
Wrong to put that unvented battery in there.
What will happen?
