    My first 35mm was the Yashica mg-1. Came from the Montgomery Ward catalog if I remember correctly.

      That's awesome! My first PC back in the day came from Montgomery Ward, I have fond childhood memories of that place.

    Just found your video after purchasing a black MG-1 in excellent condition. Great job! It’s been quite the week for me. It started with me falling in love with a Electro 35 GSN, then finding an original Electro 35, then an Electro 35 MC and now the MG-1. Paid €30-40 per camera, all in top condition. So I guess I’m a collector now? 😂

      Not a bad choice to collect, if you can find them in good working order they will make great photos!

    Great video, i never used a rangefinder before but I found a deal for this for about 50 USD in superb condition, and I decided to buy it. You explained the rangefinder features really well!

      Thank you! Hope you enjoy it! Don't forget to light seal it on the film door, pretty much every one of these will need it, the foam they use for seals only lasts so long until it breaks down in to a sticky powdery mess

    Love the video, I just picked up one of these, and it's in pretty good shape. But I can't seem to find any info on how to calibrate the rangefinder?

    • @MattRyanPhoto55
      @MattRyanPhoto55  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah calibrating the rangefinder is not too hard, there is not one video specifically to the MG-1, but there are some on the Electro 35 which is pretty much the same setup as far as the rangefinder goes and this is what I used and even the video on adjusting a Canon rangefinders as they are all pretty similar with minor differences. There are a couple screws that come out to remove the top, and there is some adjustment screws in there that you turn, much like adjusting a headlight on a vehicle. But be aware that the glue that holds all the lenses and mirrors can be old and rotten, so grab some appropriate glue (not super glue or anything with CA in it which is the main ingredient to super glue as the vapors can fog your glass) I tend to use E6000 and have had good luck with it. Hope this helps!

    Ok so to see if i am sharp i have to make a guess if it is the correct amount of meters?

    • @MattRyanPhoto55
      @MattRyanPhoto55  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I generally range it in when I first get a rangefinder. I generally test the closest range, medium and infinity. I have a couple set spots that i know the distance of. For the most part they are all a little different and you just rely on the aperture settings to create a zone that is in focus.
      My Yashicas are a little different if I am testing it at 3 meters as long as they are right around that I generally consider that calibrated, same with my other range finders. It’s not going to be an exact measurement.

    Hi! If you had to pick between the GM-1 and the Electro 35 GSN, which would you choose? I'm searching for a cheap but reliable viewfinder at the moment. Cheers!

      They are both very very comparable. And I have both. I would have to say if I had to choose it would be the 35 GSN.

    I thought I was the only one who viewed the Full Armor Unicorn like that. It's actually the only model kit I ever assembled, and I can tell you that it just feels uncomfortable to have all those guns laying inside the box without usage. The thrusters actually take away the posability (don't know if this is actually a word), the grenade launcher is redundant and the javelin is just... ugly. The machine guns and extra missiles are nice tho, I always keep these on when displaying the guy.

    I just got my first film camera yashica mg1 and i have a problem with the battery.. someone told me it's not necessary to put a battery is that true?

    • @MattRyanPhoto55
      @MattRyanPhoto55  ปีที่แล้ว

      The MG-1 needs a battery to function properly. What is the issue you are having with the battery?

    • @paperben
      @paperben 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can use it without the battery, the camera shutter speed stand at 1/500. Load a film of ASA400 and follow the Sunny16 rules, just play with the aperture, but i encourage you to use with a battery because a good condition Yashica light meter is very precise and robuste. What's the issue ? If it's the size compatibility of the battery, you can find adapter for it, just search for "yashica 4lr44 adapter" on Google.
      Best regards
      Ben

      @@lanceliverpool1574 ahh understandable! Film cameras have a door that opens up on the rear for loading up the film cartridge. It’s light sealed so that the film does not get exposed inadvertently.
